Title: Tour Dates
Post by: superval99 on May 27, 2009, 03:15:53 PM
According to MK News, the Get Lucky tour will begin in US at the end of April and end in Europe end of July, 2010 - that's one month less than KTGC.  I wonder which venues will be left out!   :-\

I had hoped to be at the opening concert again, but maybe the closing one will be fun this time!   ;)

A thought occurred - perhaps it's shorter because of the soundtrack he will be working on.

Interesting, US first this time.

The STP tour also began in US.   I hope he does more or less the same dates for the UK. ie middle to end of May and beginning of June.  I have a feeling he will because it is half-term.

USA first? That's odd. Personally, I'm kind of disappointed as last year's KtGC tour proved that it's better to see MK and crew towards the end of the tour when they've gotten used to the set. The openers are nothing to write home about either, unless we rewind to 2005. Meh, it's such a long way off anyway...

The one positive for you is the set is more like to change and have different songs thrown in on the early dates.

Only devil baby in last tour... The complete setlist remained until the end of the tour. "Daddy's gone..." disappeared after a while.

Not true, we also had Secondary Waltz at three UK shows, including the two I attended.  ;)

BUT....

Guy Fletcher said they will play the royall albert hall in May 2010...
And germany in Summer.
As the tour start end april in USA...They'll play USA for 3-4 weeks.

Maybe it's like 2001. End april USA. Europe start 3 june Royall albert hall.
It might be a bit the same tourlist.

I'm with Dusty on this one. It's tough but it's possible, although last time I only had 3 weeks to wait, this time it could be a lot longer....

I think it's cool that the US part is first. Then we don't have to pay the high season flight ticket prices. I guess Boston will be the first show...I was there in 2001 when James Taylor came on as a guest. That was a very hot day I can still remember...

Ah, I forgot about the element of surprise. I've never experienced an MK show before without knowing the setlist beforehand. Should be interesting.

I dont get this thing about not knowing the setlist,it doesn't bother me that I know what the next song is going to be at a gig.As Ubhal said to me one time if MK was tuning his guitar he'd go to see him -  the setlist doesnt change for that does it ;D ;).

I can't fathom how people who eat, drink & sleep MK (like we all do),log on daily / hourly to various websites to get a bit of new information will not look at new material on youtube or whatever for a few weeks after its played live just in case they get to know the setlist ::) ::) ::)??????

Anyone with me on this???

No.  :)

I can only speak for me, but it was a real thrill hearing the first few bars of Hillfarmer's Blues and Marbletown last year and a lightbulb going off in my head. Much better sitting there wondering what was next, instead of just thinking "OK, next we get Sultans."

I was one of the lucky ones who didn't have to wait at all, being there on the first night, but I know just how exciting it was not knowing the set-list and hearing HFB and Marbletown, which are my favourite songs from my favourite MK album!   I don't know how I will avoid hearing the set-list next time though, because we will have a fair time to wait!   :-\

It's just going to take willpower Val. Checking this site and the tracket etc are daily occurences for me, but I'll just have to stop.

The only new thing this time is Facebook, I think I'll have to stop that as well as I have lots of friends on there who are MK fans and one of them might post a link to "Tunnel of Love, Mark Knopfler, Live Denver 2010".  ;)

nah dusty, you know TOL will never be played again, ...man's too strong or camerado, live at Times Square 2010...now that is a totally different story

Hi

Although I think Mark won't perform TOL on next tour, since HFB showed ANYTHING can happen - even an "Alan and John surprise appearence" on one night.

Me too I was there on the opening night in Dam and I could not believe it when the Richard and John played the first chords  - this song live was worth the price of the admission.

Sorry Schmonka, but I just can't do without R & J - it's my very favourite MK song!  I know I can just play any of the versions from hundreds of shows I have downloaded, but they can never replace hearing it live, the same goes for SOS.   I love TR too, but that song could be replaced with some new songs, or older never or rarely played songs.   :)

Post by: schmonka on June 09, 2009, 10:55:41 AM
Hi Val - i do agree with you on one point...TR could definately go.......its a regularly played song and yes - the space could be taken up with a couple of new tracks or some older gem that has been given a dusting off!! ;)

Add me to the group that's bored with Telegraph Road, especially the version from last year, it really missed MK's electric playing in the first half of the song.
Title: Re: Tour Dates
Post by: superval99 on June 09, 2009, 11:26:19 AM
I'm not bored with TR, Dusty, and I really liked the KTGC arrangement, but because of it's length, a few more other songs could be played.  The other one I would like left out is "So Far Away", but I'm sure lots of fans still like that too.  It's all very subjective.   :)
Title: Re: Tour Dates
Post by: schmonka on June 09, 2009, 11:40:26 AM
...Agreed - So Far Away should be given a rest this time around......
Title: Re: Tour Dates
Post by: dustyvalentino on June 09, 2009, 12:07:54 PM
For me, there were just big gaps in Telegraph Road where MK usually plays great lines on his electric; this time it was just bare. I was listening to Boothbay today and Richard Bennett does a great MK impersonation at the end of R&J, he should have been allowed to fill in the gaps on TR as well if MK wanted to stick to the acoustic.

An yes, I was delighted to have So Far Away back in 2001 as well, but that's 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2008 we've had it now, enough already!

This thread goes to show (if needed) that he can't please everyone, so he just has to please himself.

I would totally be happy if he dropped RJ, SFA, SOS, BIA, but then a large proportion of concert goers would not bother going if they knew that they would not be played. Like I wouldn't have bothered to go and see Simple Minds if I had been told they were not playing the hits I know them for (luckily they did play them!)

I know what you're saying, BUT there is a reasonably big difference in that MK's solo albums have been relatively succesful in their own right, something you couldn't really say about Simple Minds.

I strongly disagree about SFA! It should stay but back to the wonderful calypso version  ;D

TR could be replaced by TOL

R&J : I  would be in favour to drop it but since Mark told that it is his fave DS song I guess that it will remain.

SOS : play MFN instead

I agree ... it would be really great to hear this version of Australia again. Am I right, that this version was played live only on that tour ?

I'd be very surprised if SOS, R&J & BIA ever left the set list. ;)
I do agree though re. TR. It is one of my all time fave live songs, but needs a rest in favour of playing an extra couple of others.
TOL would be AMAZING to hear live again after so many years on the shelf.
I was VERY amazed to see so few tracks from KTGC on tour, especially after hearing tracks like 'The Fizzy & The Still' & 'Let It All Go' in the promo gigs.
I hope to attend one of the promo gigs this year, as this may be the only chance to hear some of the tracks from the new album.

'HILL FARMERS BLUES'.!!!!! 8) :o :o :o :o :o :o :oWOW. The highlight of the tour.!!!!!!!

'Single Handed Sailor' would be nice. ;D

Cheers   BBB

Yeah, but I used to think the same about Money for Nothing and Walk of Life, so you just never know.
