In an Italian forum someone checked the ASCAP list we already checked many times before and I guess that they looked at the work id numbers of every track to try to sort them by albums, they also added tracks that are not in ASCAP but that are known by other means...
First, the links, the one of the Italian forum http://www.knopfleriani.it/kforum/showthread.php?tid=4386 (http://www.knopfleriani.it/kforum/showthread.php?tid=4386)
And now, our two threads where we already checked the ASCAP lists:

Long Highway was surely a leftover from On Every Street. DS played it on tour in Dublin and on the Tim White Sessions.
Still, there's an whole album there and I'm sure at least 10 times more we don't know about.

Dreams of a box set of bootlegs.... alas

Yes, there are cases of song that had been recorded / considered for various records... "Long Highway" was a leftover from On Every Street, probably also from GH and appeared on the What It Is Single...
I know another case, "Pyroman" was recorded for STP, but also for Ragpickers. I recall reading from someone who heard both recordings that the STP one was better and that´s maybe why it was left out and forgotten...
I´m sure there are more songs that were considered or recorded for various records that we don´t know and yes, I'm sure that with all this unreleased songs, many of them would make a good record with probably some good singles, but MK looks forward, even what he leaves backwards is good enough, or sometimes better...
-
I'll bet he has some great songs left over that he wrote for the first few DS albums, even pre-Straits like Real Girl.

Or "Me And My Friends"
Curious that both songs were played during the Talking Heads tour (their first one) but didn´t made it on their first record...

Chuck Ainlay has stated that a lot of Mark's best songs have never been released on any album!!

It would be nice that what Mk and Guy are doing is compilating and re-arranging some of that forgotten songs for a new album...

I tend to trust this fine man! I'm sure Mark have some gems laying around in the drawer, let's hope for the best.

I can believe that. Some of his b-sides have been better than some of the album songs. I'm thinking of things like Millionaire Blues, Kingdom Come, Gravy Train or My Claim to Fame to name but a few.

Only makes me missing Chuck Ainlay more after posts like this :disbelief
Give me one reason it was necessary to get rid of Chuck? Only that Guy learned so much that he can replace Chuck? * Cough, cough *

LOL! To me it translates like as if instead of Mark somebody else would play solos on the album.
There was a long time before Chuck, but clearly the man is a genius at what he do, and you can hear his personality in his work.

Yes, it gives a clear overview on such songs. :thumbsup A dream is a compilation record on CD or on vinyl-set with that less known songs.
"Hot Dog" was released on a special German "Media-Markt-store-edition" of the Tracker CD-Album.
"Remembrance Day" was released as a 2-Track-Promo-CD-Single in 2009. Remembrance day / Piper to the end, UK-Promo, REMEMBERCJ-1, 2009
On the Deluxe BOX-Set of DTRW, there is a Bonus 4-Track-Vinylsingle with the following songs: Drovers´ Road, Don´t Suck Me In, Sky And Water, Pale Imitation. I don´t know if they are ASCAP controlled or listed.

Yes, true. :thumbsup :thumbsup
OK, maybe that list makes more sense, if it can be much more sepearted in "true unreleased songs" and "less known songs", which were really released as Single-B-Sides, CD-Maxi Bonus-Tracks, as Additional-Tracks on Bonus-CDs like the BOX-Deluxe-Editions of MK, as studio or live-only-versions, or so on. :think
