Interesting. Looks like a fair bit of Scottish influence this time? (Reiver/Clyde (a river in Glasgow, where MK was born)/Piper).
-
Hmm.

Wow!
I must have checked this site more than a dozen times, and now I was about to go to bed and had one more look -- I think this is confirmed??
Sounds all veeeeery interesting... And I count eleven tracks? The shortest track number since Brothers In Arms...that MUST include some longer tracks...
really thrilling ... this sounds exactly like the MK-world I was longing for...
Thanks very much!!! I think it is not necessary to ask where this comes from?

Yep this is confirmed ;D .And as you said the songs will be longer and full of MK.
-
Well, I won
-
Iam so excited!! :P
This will be great!! Wow!!
-
On MKNews the list has been announced, too.
I must say it all sound very promising. A final track "Piper To The End" sounds really great and I imagine a long and slowly growing song with a great and
long guitar parts... And it could be one of the two "scottish flavoured" songs Guy mentioned in the diary...

Yes, but it works, i tested it a minute ago... but it has some trouble indeed...
Ok, now the next step:
Who knows the track lengths?
LovExpresso

did you get the tracklist from the news forum? or from elsewhere?
just asking....

The tracklist is official! Its on markknopfler.com and MKnews :)

Before it was edited, GennT's original post included a comment copied directly from a news item TK posted at MKNews, so I assume the news was broken first by Terry.

From the Hotel Monteleone site ;)
Antonio Monteleone was an industrious nobleman who was operating a very successful shoe factory in Sicily when he heard great things about America. The call of adventure motivated him to pack the tools of his trade and head for "the land of opportunity." Antonio arrived in New Orleans circa 1880 and opened a cobbler shop on Royal Street, the busy thoroughfare of commerce and banking in America

Blimey. Got up early to go to work, quickly checked the forum, & WOW. Tracklist. :o
Damn, got to go now, can't wait to read more on my return. ;D

OMG!!! YAY CANNOT WAIT NOW!!! :D!!!

Unless this is a 45 minute album, we should be up for longer instrumental passages. But I'll wait until I see the track lengths.
I don't know if track names say anything about the tracks themselves, but this still feels exciting. "Border Reiver" sounds really cool.
I'm sure the track lengths will be announced, though. Seems like they are building the excitement by 'rolling out' info one step at a time.

So Far From The Clyde
The clyde is a river in Glas gow the town Mark is born. Maybe this song is about the fact that he is nowadays far away from Glasgow.
Or maybe about this building : http://www.glasgowarchitecture.co.uk/clyde_buildings.htm (http://www.glasgowarchitecture.co.uk/clyde_buildings.htm)

Very intrigued, can't wait now! It is nice to know but it makes the wait less bareable!
-
:) the Border Reivers
http://www.borderreivers.co.uk/Border%20Reivers/Border%20reivers.htm
At least 3 Scottish sounding tracks (along with So far from the Clyde and Piper to the end). Can't wait. I think this is where Mark draws on his most distant musical memories and IMHO he is at his lyrical best on this level. Both voice and guitar. ;)
-
Seems we're going to have a "folk" feel again though. Not sure how I feel about that. KTGC was my least favourite MK album, but I'm not sure it was because of the folk style, probably just that the actual songs weren't MK's best (IMO).
-
I agree, Dusty. I have trouble to put more than two songs in a imaginal "best-of-MK-playlist-of-all-times". Maybe In The Sky and The Scaffolder
-
Ok, Guy told Dom in his forum today that "Piper in the end" is one of the two left over songs from KTGC, so my assumption has been disproven within
minutes from top priority...

Also Bradley died in march and the album was done by then wasn't it?

Maybe it's a homage to Clyde, the monkey out of those Clint Eastwood films. I somehow had a hunch that MK would be going for a "slapstick" feel with this record.

Maybe its Bonnie & Clyde that he was thinking about :o :o
-
I'm getting chills thinking about the lyrics and sound of some of these songs. Don't want summer to end, but want the cd to arrive.
-
I agree with you there. ;D
