Title: Our MK friend Jacki
Post by: draad on July 04, 2009, 06:46:20 PM
I have just heard that our forum pal jcser - her of the acute power of observation, the quick wit, and the devotion to all things musical - has been in a bad road traffic accident in her home town of Omaha. From what I hear, ITU, life support, etc needed, so a v serious accident indeed. I gather that she is improving but still a way to go. I'm late to hear the news, and prob a bit behind the news, but thought that Jacki would appreciate the prayers and best wishes of her AMIT forum pals. Let's give them to her!

I am so sorry to hear this terrible news about Jacki.  She will be in my thoughts and prayers and I hope she will make a full recovery.  Thank you for letting us know about this, Arthur.    :(

If you wish to send her a get-well card, the address is this:

Jacki Cser
Room 3116
Creighton University Medical Center
601 N. 30th Street
Omaha, Nebraska 68131
USA

I called the hospital and they said she is in intensive care. When she is moved into a room, their mail room will get any cards to her there....

My prayers are for her speedy recovery.

Arthur and Gayle thank you for posting this!

Because Jacki wasn't on Facebook for a little while, I decided to go to her page and see what was going on. It was a shock to read this message from a friend of her:

Quote: "Dave - Couldn't find the info on Jacki but heard from Kristin Schlicht who heard from Jacki's friend that is was an auto accident and she was on her way to work - broken leg, ruprured spleen, broken ribs and lacertions on her face. She is in Creighton Medical Center in Omaha NE."

I posted immediately a message at Jacki's page today and hope her friend can tell more about the condition.

Lucky I see that Gayle called the hospital today and I hope she can keep us information about the situation! This is terrible news and makes me feel sad! Jacki is such a sweetheart!

Just like others, I will sent tomorrow a beautiful card, so she knows she is in our thoughts!

Fieneke

A friend of Jacki's named Rebecca is posting updates on her condition via Facebook. Her last update was on Thursday, so I hope we hear more within the next day or so...

Apparently, she's got pneumonia, is on a ventilator and in an induced medical coma.

This is terrible news. :'(
I had the honour of meeting Jacki last year. She travelled all the way from the US to the UK, just to attend mine and Ingrid's 40th Birthday Party.
She is one of the most amazing people i have ever met.
I wish her all the best, and a very speedy recovery.

As Arthur suggested me, i'm now making a Get Lucky/ well soon card for JAcki It would be nice that every body sign it and then we could forward it on her email or maybe print it and send to her... as you 'll wish...

Sending Flowers is a great Idea ! i'll open another topic their you could post your messages to Jacki and i'll pst on the card... and then we'll see what u want to do!

Here are some news from a friend of Jacki

Quote
She's awake! They took her out of sedation to see how her body would react. So far, so good, although she is very uncomfortable and frustrated, as she still has the breathing tube in. Her blood pressure has improved...pneumonia slightly, slightly better. Her fever dropped for awhile, but is back up again. They will determine whether or not to keep her awake within the next day or so. The Dr's are asking for no visitors until further notice, as she is extremely suspectible to infection right now, and also is frustrated that she can't talk to people while they are there. I willl update again when that changes. Hope you all have a great 4th of July

I need to thank you for editing and also for the beautiful card you make for Jacki!

I got a mail from Jean Allen. She knows Jacki as a teenager and knows her family also. Jacki often visited her house.

She told about Jacki and asked us all to keep Jacki in our prayers.

I will respond that mail and ask Jean if she can keep us informated about the situation. I also will ask for permission to post her mails or a part of her mails, here at the forum, so you all know exactly what is going on.

As soon as I hear from her again, I will let you know.

I just heard the bad news last night (thanks for your textmessage Nelly).
I will send her a nice postcard immediately. I think it's nice when we all send a card individually and also the one Nelly made. The more the better.  This is so sad, I am so far away from her. And I had (like BBB) the honour to meet her last year on our 40th anniversaryparty.
You are in my mind Jacki, I pray for you and hope you are back with your Knopfler-Knutty-family here as soon as possible. We need you crazy, funny additions here!

Lots of love from me

And BPD, sending flowers will be great when she's back in a "normal" hospitalroom. Maybe we can all contribute by paypal to someone in the US who can manage to get the flowers to her.

You are welcome Shangri-La. I know you all are as worried as I am!

Jaki's friend Jean Allen responded my mail and gave me permission to post her messages, so you all can read.

Jacki had an auto accident on June 17 - 18. She was on her way to work. She works the night shift at the Omaha police station. The first thing we heard was that there were multiple lacerations to her face, broken ribs, broken leg and ruptured spleen. Since then it has been very frightening for all of us - her friends and family - she was placed in a drug-induced coma for more than a week - and was very, very ill. She is also on a ventilator which breathes for her. She has been in ICU all this time. She developed blood clots in her legs - which they expected and is on a blood thinner. She developed pneumonia and went into sepsis.
Yesterday I spoke to the ICU nurse and she said that Jacki was taken off the drug-induced coma Friday noon and that she had overrode the ventilator three or four times an hour and had her eyes open briefly.
Today she is opening her eyes more often, the ventilator is still in place - I believe it is in her trachea - not her mouth - she still has pneumonia but they think she has beat the sepsis - which is very unusual. But Jacki is a fighter and we have all prayed - and wept - to think of our dear friend in such peril.
The nurse said it will be a long road back -- and Jacki needs the support of all her extended family - and I feel the news is good - as good as it can be in this situation. We prayed for a miracle - I think Jacki got it. I knew Jacki as a teenager, know her family - she was a frequent visitor to our house -Jean Allen - Keep Jacki in your prayers.

==================

Moderators, as always I try to be careful and respect people's privacy, but meanwhile I think we also all would like to know how Jacki's condition is. IF one of you think the message is too private, then please delete it!  ;)

I have sent a card today to Jacki and I am sure she will love all the cards from people around the world and make her smile!

I sent her a postcard yesterday. Come on Knopflerados, let us all send her our wishes from all over the world. I was happy to meet her last year and she deserves all our support. A nice card is a small favour we can do, but it will keep her fighting and help her with recovery. If we can make her room like a mailbox she will smile a lot and smiling helps to get better!

Thanks Fieneke and Gayle for informing us.

OF course when others get news from people close to Jacki, then please post it here also!

Quote Ingrid: "A nice card is a small favour we can do, but it will keep her fighting and help her with recovery. If we can make her room like a mailbox she will smile a lot and smiling helps to get better!"

That is right Ingrid, I see her smiling already! ;D With the card I sent yesterday I put a little "Delfts Blue" heart in the enveloppe. I bought it in March when Jans and I met Val (Superval) and her husband in Amsterdam! I think Jacki might like that one. ;) Just a little surprise to let her know she is in our heart!

Good news from Jacki's friend on facebook:

today was a good day for Jacki. In all areas, she is slowly improving. We got a call from the hospital saying she wanted visitors...yeah! I was there for nearly 2 hrs - she still has the breathing tube in, but we were able to communicate with an alphabet card. She was in good spirits; it was great to see her smirk again! I printed off her facebook wall and read some of the comments on it - her face was lighting up when I told her the names and what everyone said. Keep praying for her improvement, we hope she has turned a corner! Thanks again to everyone!

Until I read Emily's email just now I had no idea this had happened to Jacki. My thoughts and prayers go out to her, and to those helping her recover.

I've lost count of the hours I've spent chatting with Jacki, but she is without doubt one of the kindest, funniest, most genuine people I know.

It's a relief to read she no longer needs the breathing tube. I'll be praying for further improvements and will send a card and some CDs.

fresh news. Good news!

Hi everyone! Jacki continues to improve, she is ready to get out of ICU (woohoo!), now all she is waiting on is for a regular room to open up. I asked her about the laptop, and for now, she said she would like to wait on that. But she sends her love to you all! She's in great spirits and we pray she continues to improve! Hope you all have a great weekend!

Quote Maarten: "cool forum friends we are, i am proud of us.."

Yeaahhh Maarten, that is right! I also think it is wonderful that we all sent cards and CD's to Jacki. To show her that we care about her and that she is in our thoughts and prayers.

You know, besides Jans and my kids,  I now and then also talk about my online friends to my family (brother-sisters, in-laws ) / co-workers / friends and others. I sometimes see them looking at me as if they can't understand how much friends, I met at the forums for a long time. mean to me! I explain that although I didn't meet most of them, that they are a part of my life. I read their stories and know what is going on in their lives. I perhaps even know more about them then I know about co-workers or some friends I meet twice a year! LOL

By receiving cards with Christmas, birthday's or in cases like illness, the friends online become to others outside the forums, real people. By watching the cards Jacki will get from the MK fans, people will know how much she is loved and what kind of wonderful group of people she is a member of.  ...........I sure would be proud to show ALL the cards from my friends to other people, and I think Jacki will have the same feeling and it will make her happy too!

Uuuhh what did the 3 musketeers say?
One (MK) for all and all for one (Jacki)  ;D

Thank you all for your nice comment!  :-*

As I told before, I have permission to post the messages of Jacki's friend Jean at the forums. I received this one today!

Re: jacki "Dear Fieneke - I just talked to Jacki. She was sitting up in a chair eating lunch. The nurse was going to have the nurse put her back to bed. She didn't sound quite like herself but she is still fighting the pneumonia. It was wonderful to hear her voice and to know she is out of the ICU. Her room number is 5227. She talked about her garden at her house - I thought that was a good sign. I read her part of your message - to let her know you are thinking of her - she was so pleased - meant a lot to her. She will be there for a while yet but at least this is a good step forward. Jean Allen"

Good news again and I hope she will feel better every day!

I got a new mail from Jacki's friend Jean Allen.

==============
Re: jacki

Just wanted you to know that today - July 17 - she seems a little better - They got her up and she fell but does not seem to be hurt. I would guess that she is very weak. She is not having visitors today - says she is very tired and needs to rest. They are going to move her to a rehabilitation hospital soon to get her on her feet. But first they have to deal with the pneumonia. Is still a problem. The other day when I spoke to her the brightest she sounded was when I mentioned that you had inquired about her. Thank you. My best wishes. Jean Allen

===============

If Jacki already likes that people inquire about her, what would her reaction be when she receives the cards of the fans around the world and especial the wonderful card Nelly made?  ::) I would love to see her face!  ;D Knowing what kind of  woman Jacki is, she even might get a tear in her eye reading all the get well wishes!  ;)

Being a member of the Knopflerado family, she is a part of us and in our thoughts and prayers!

Thank you Shangri-La.  :-* I feel honoured to be a part of this wonderful group of fans!

My husband and I will leave Thursday July 23rd for a vacation to Rhodes (Greece). I don't have a computer, so I can't keep you all informed for about 2 weeks. I sent Marie, Gayle and Emily a mail and hope that they can keep in contact with Jean Allen or other friends of Jacki or even can have contact with Jacki self, so that you all will be informed.

As soon as I hear something before I leave or when I return August 6th, I will let you all know.

I sent yesterday a copy of the DVD of the birthday party of Nigel and Ingrid and also a CD with pictures of the party and of our visit together with Jacki and Mark S to Norwich castle. Jacki loved her visit to the UK and I hope it might make her feel happy to watch again. ;)

There's bad news about Jacki. I received e-mails from Emily and this is what I can post right now.
People, please send your strongest thoughts to Jacki. Keep praying and I really hope we can catch some better news soon again.

On Saturday, Jacki developed problems breathing on her own.  She was transferred to the ICU.  She was totally sedated, re-intubated and put on a ventilator to help her breathe.  To make matters even more serious, apparently there is severe scarring in her lungs (from using the ventilator during her previously stay in the ICU), and her lung capacity is very limited right now.

Also, in the earlier stages of her admission, she had developed blood clots (which is not uncommon with injuries such as she sustained) for which she was given blood thinners.  It was discovered around or about Saturday that Jacki had had blood loss.  She received both blood and plasma, and the blood thinner medication was stopped.  Since that time, she has developed blood clots again in her legs.

This is an extremely serious and sad turn of events.  Please keep Jacki in your prayers and best thoughts.

This is very sad to hear and extremely serious. To be readmitted to ITU for ventilation nearly 5 weeks after her accident is a real set back and feels ominous to me. I'm sure Jacki is being looked after v well and getting the best of treatment. All we can do is hope and pray . C'mon jcser!!

Hi all,
Just received new e-mail from Emily. It's a little bit better, but not more than that.
Here is the info I got:

I just spoke to Jacki's friend.  The news is brief but a bit better this morning.

Jacki had a good night.  The doctors are now having to give her less oxygen than yesterday (presumably that means that her lung function has improved).

Keep those powerful and positive messages flowing to Jacki!

Come on people, all positive energy towards Jacki, maybe she can feel the energy flying towards her from all over the world, she needs it!

Ingrid, I'm sure she can feel our love and positive energy. Jacki need our support right now more than always...

Come on Jacki!! You can do it, girl!! The distance is not important now. No matter I'm in the other part of the globe, I think of you and you are in my heart and thoughts all the time.
Love from your friend Slavi

Hi all,

Just received news from Emily.
Jacki had a good night, she is breathing a little more on her own now and her vital signs are stable.

The CD's started to arrive and her friends and family are trying to have some playing in her room even though Jacki is still sedated. Come on people, keep sending cards, CD's or whatever. Keep praying and sending positive energy. All of this will give her strength to fight and keep fighting. Hopefully she will improve a little day by day and not fall back again. There's a long way to go, but this news gives hope.

Love
Ingrid

And another update from Emily, thanks to both Emily and Jacki's friend who is informing Emily every day.

Overall, Jacki's condition is stable with a couple of milestones (every step counts!): she is now on 50% oxygen and the doctors have stopped the blood pressure medication.  LOL, the nurse described Jacki as 'cruising' this morning.  Jacki is still sedated and the doctors plan to keep her in this state for at least the next couple of days.  Also a friend of Jacki's from Connecticut, USA will be visiting her.

So we keep on hoping and praying. And wishing Jacki all the strength she needs, and that's a lot!
Title: Much better news now!
Post by: ingridswing on July 25, 2009, 08:37:44 PM
Emily e-mailed me good news.

Sometimes, doctors change their plans.  Jacki was taken out of sedation!  When her friend said her name, Jacki responded by opening her eyes but she was unable to really focus; it might take a bit of time for her to 'be with it'.  The x-rays show that her lungs are clearing and the oxygen she is receiving is now down to 45%; the doctors are hopeful that the breathing tube will soon be removed.  She had a low fever last night but this morning it is normal.

Those wonderful wishes are working!

I agree with this last line. Our prayers and thoughts and wishes help!

Thanks my friend. I feel it like a duty to keep you all updated. I am very happy it's a little better with Jacki, it improves the quality of my holidays.
I will send Emily your e-mail, so you can take this little job from me for 1 1/2 week. It's not a big  job, as Emily already wrote: no news is good news. So there won't be e-mails every day as long as she is stable.
Title: Re: Our MK friend Jacki
Post by: ingridswing on July 30, 2009, 08:53:24 PM
And my last posting for about 11 days! Not too bad to go on holiday.

Jacki's breathing tube was removed yesterday.  While this is a positive step in the right direction, she is still having breathing problems.  Jacki is using an oxygen mask for now, while the staff tests out various ventilator settings to see how much of the work (of breathing) she can do on her own.  It sounds like the hard part is just starting as Jacki learns how to breathe independently.

Keep those good thoughts coming!

Ian, now it's your turn to keep everyone updated. Thanks for taking this little job.

See you all later, keep on praying, sending good thoughts, cards, presents to Jacki.

Love
Ingrid

You can also get updates on Jacki's condition by going to http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jackicser

It's a website set up for seriously ill and injured patients where their family and friends can stay up to date on the patient's condition. If you create a user name, you can leave messages for Jacki there, too.

:) The news continues to be positive and Jacki has been moved further away from the nurses station, which augers well for her recovery. Keep your thoughts and prayers coming folks...

Jacki's nurse reports that she's doing well.  She is alternating between the mask and the oxomizer (that's the tube in the nose that we see so often) which she finds much more comfortable.  Sounds like she had a good day.

Just a note, the room with a view is still in ICU, but, I believe, a bit farther from the nurses station and it must be wonderful to have a window.

Thanks, on Jacki's behalf,  for your continued messages, prayers, and caring thoughts.  Reports from Omaha are that she brightens with delight when she hears your messages.

An updated email from Emily:-

Jacki was moved to a regular floor Thursday PM.  She is still supposed to be using the breathing mask but lets everyone know that her preference is taking the oxygen via the nasal cannula (tube).  The docs and medical staff are watching her closely to ensure no complications arise.  It is hoped that if she can stay on a slow but steady course she can become more involved with physical therapy and begin regaining her strength.

I signed up at the CaringBridge site of Jacki and get information through that site also when there is news. Gayle and a few others signed up there and Emily continues to keep us informed via Shangri-La at this site, so I am hesitating if I should post news about Jacki again or if you all go to that site to get information.

There has been a setback over the past 12 hours resulting in Jacki requiring further surgery. I have attached the last email from Emily.

Welcome back Ingrid! I hope you had a good time on vacation! ;D

Not only because Mark gave us some dates for his concerts, BUT also to know that Jacki is recovering the last days!! YEaaaahhh both are wondeful things to know and makes me really feeling happy.

THANK YOU Emily, Shangri-La and also Ingrid for keeping me and everybody informed here at AMIT! A while ago I signed up at Caringbridge, so I read there almost everyday also. It is wonderful to see that Jacki is surrounded by such a great group of people who keep her friends around the world informed as soon there is news! ......... Kisses to all of you!!  :-*

In case others have the same plan I'll share a secret with all of you. Ingrid and I were not sure if Jacki or one of her friends were able to order the new album of Mark and we all know she would love to have that album also. We know she will be happy to listen to Mark's voice and all the beautiful songs who will be at the album. So as a surprise for Jacki, I orderd also on behalf of Ingrid the GET LUCKY album and as soon as I can collect it from the music store, I will sent it to her.  ;D

If we are patient, send our thoughts, give her our support it will happen again  :) I am sure, it's for a pretty long time now (compared to the months before) that we had good news all the time. So keep on praying for her!

:) ;) :D Excellent, news, Ingrid. Thanks for the update and coming from Jacki via Emily directly is even better news. The support of a great group of Cyber friends can be a real boost to the morale and hopefully the karma and news continue as she enters the rehabilitation stage.  :)

And good news again, this makes me happy: So dear Jacki, Get Lucky is made for you!!

Jacki continues to do really well!  Yesterday she was able to spend a little time outdoors.  She is working very hard at her daily physical and occupational therapy regimens. The plan is to move her to another facility at some point next week before she is able to live with a friend (or go home).

This is wonderful news! I must admit I was really worried when she kept going back to the ICU because of her breathing difficulties.

Does anyone have any Jacki updates? The last one was 10 days ago.

No news so far. It means (because we agreed so) that there is no news, that all is the same as last update. I really hope she will be online in a short time so we can talk to her ourselves. But we have to be patient, it's really very hard work to recover and have therapy all the time. So I guess she will be very tired, too tired to ache for a computer. But no news is good news!

Continued good wishes to you. :-* :-*

the lates post, from last week, for those who are not on facebook:

Hi everyone! Jacki is doing well. She is at a rehab hospital, getting 3 hrs of physical therapy a day. She is walking with the assistance of PT's and a walker. She is still getting a small amount of oxygen, which will probably continue for who k...nows how long. She is motivated to get better and get back to work (which is still a couple months away). She is overwhelmed by all of the love, support, and prayers for her. She may be moved to another facility in the next week or two, where she should have the internet. :) I'm not promising that, but keep your fingers crossed! Don't forget about the pancake feed for her on Sunday, Sept 27th, if you are in Omaha!Read more

Last night I was not at home but more news came in from Emily:

Today is a big day for Jacki.  She is in the process of moving to a different rehab facility where she will live for the next month and continue the physical and occupational therapy program.  She will first be evaluated on arrival so that an individual treatment plan will be developed for her.

Later today, Jacki will be interviewed about her accident by television reporters in her local area.  These interviews will promote the fact that the police department where Jacki works is holding a pancake breakfast (information below) in her honor to help raise money to defray the cost of her expenses.  If you know anyone who lives in or will be traveling to the Omaha, Nebraska area this weekend, please encourage them to attend the event.

Waterline Man, you are great!!
Actually there is a paypalaccount for Jacki, I already donated some months ago and this morning  I asked Emily if it was ok to post it here as well. So as soon as she answers me I will post it and I really hope a lot of people will give a little amount. And please don't think that it doesn't help, every dollar helps, and when a lot people help with say 10 euro it makes a lot money together.

Thanks for your excellent idea WM  :-*

Ok my friends, I have permission to post about the fund that has been set up for Jacki. Becky is the one who organizes it all, including this one. So you will find her name on your account.

We now have bought a lot of tickets for all kind of concerts. Please realize that it might be possible that Jacki will not be able to attend one at all. Because there are a lot of bills to pay or because her health isn't good enough. So I really beg you, please find a way to help her. Don't feel ashame if you can only pay 5 or 10 euro's/dollars or whatever. It does make a difference! And for us it's only the difference of having a couple of beers less at the concert.

And of course, when your wallet is a little bigger it is much appreciated if you donate more  ;)

The information:

Paypal-account: jcserfund@hotmail.com
Please write with you payment the following: account 01315800 Jacqueline Cser Donation Fund

Thanks a lot in advance

Ingrid

I just had a facebook chat with Jacki and she sounded great! She told me a little about the accident. Apparently, the driver she hit tried to accuse her of being at fault and she was NOT! I hope she sues the bastard. Otherwise, Jacki asked me to say hi to everyone, so, here it is...

"HI, EVERYONE!"...from Jacki!

I'm so glad she's able to use a computer and doing so much better!!!! ;D

Nelly, Fieneke and I already sent her a postcard with the Get Lucky digipack.

Superval: I agree with you, I hope we raise a lot of money for Jacki. When everyone here does 10 euro's it will be almost 5000! Almost 500 members  ;)

If anyone needs help with the payment on her paypal-account please don't hesitate to ask me. If you don't have paypal and you don't want to open one (it's free and safe and easy to do) and you want to donate also contact me so we will find a way to do it different.

:) Hi Fieneke. It is surprisingly easy. I don't use it very often, and had forgotten my passwords, but they even have a very secure system involving security questions and 2 emails, which allow you to reset the password.  ;) Also now, they have an express option, which allows the money to be transferred instantly or the normal 3-days clearance method.
