Catch historic Formula One racers in action
Famous names and an array of wonderful cars are lined up for the Silverstone Classic historic motor racing festival, which takes place at the Northamptonshire circuit from July 24-26.
As well as a feast of on-track action, with 20 races over the weekend, there are also concerts on the Friday and Saturday evenings featuring the Pussycat Dolls and Carlos Santana, in his only UK concert date this year.

Murray Walker will once again be on hand to provide his inimitable take on the action as famous racers take to the track, including former F1 and Targa Florio hero Arturo Merzario, Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal, F1 and sports car driver Jackie Oliver and Le Mans veteran Andy Wallace. There will also be a chance to see the great Sir Stirling Moss in action in the RAC Woodcote Trophy, while car-mad musicians Chris Rea and Mark Knopfler will also be taking to the track in their own cars.
The Silverstone Classic celebrates more than 90 years of motor racing over three days, including historic Formula One and the breathtaking Group C Le Mans-type cars. The Daily Express Trophy for Production Jaguar Cars celebrates one of the Coventry marque's XK120s winning Silverstone's first production car race 60 years ago, whilehe David Leslie Memorial Trophy celebrates four decades of touring cars and the popular touring car racer who died in an air crash last year.
Friday's qualifying sessions are followed by an evening concert featuring the Pussycat Dolls, Blue and Toploader. Saturday's packed race schedule includes the Harley-Davidson parade and a celebration of 50 years of the Mini, as well as a Bonham's evening auction that includes Honda GP cars and F1 memorabilia. The Jaguar track parade is followed by scrutineering of multi-million pound cars campaigning for glory in the pre-1963 GT sports cars race, including rarities such as Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagatos.
On the Saturday, as the sunset World Sports Car Masters race - featuring original Le Mans cars - draws to a close, rock legend Carlos Santana takes to the stage for his only UK concert. Saturday and Sunday races are punctuated by aerial displays and parades by scores of car clubs around the circuit.

I told you, didn't I? I saw him a few weeks ago and thought when is he due? ;-)
It's only car sound on the video.

Ha, I remember at Hay you were shocked at his "beer belly" then. He is almost 60 you know, I think a little "middle-aged spread" is allowed. :)
-
I thought he looked a lot thinner on the latest pictures - at least his face did! ;)
-

We had dinner at a restaurant in central London when MK and Kitty walked in. Kitty is very slim, well skinny. MK is the opposite. On www.gettyimages.com search for Mark Knopfler and you can have a look at some pics from the Mojo event lately. He should watch his weight now, but it's entirely up to him of course.

He looked a lot thinner on the picture with Paul Gambaccini a week later! Must have gone on a crash diet! ;D

Val, where can I find the slim photo? I'm curious about the diet. :o

It's on Getty Images, next to the Mojo Award pics. Only his face (sideface), but it looked thinner. :-\

Great pics. Thanks.
Cheers BBB

I saw him and his family several times when he used to live in Chelsea and we used to live in Battersea, just over the Albert Bridge. They walked the dog and went shopping on Fulham Road.

Poor Mark! He's lovely exactly as he is and his music is the most important thing! :P

Hi, sorry not to reply, been away for a few days.
No, I didn't get to meet him, the pics were taken by my husband on practice day. Of course I missed him (again!) as I went on race day. Well one day I'll get to see him at a car event. I can't comment on him size-wise, perhaps he is now a little cuddly!
