Ken announced on his BBC Radio 2 show this morning that MK will be playing in the Elton John piano room live on his show but just said in near future but not the exact date. Usual format is a bit of chat and 3/4 songs. :)

I’m at work then so I can’t record, a recording lossy would be great to start with!
-
Great stuff shall look forward to this!

Live new material + classic hits, pretty interesting

Live new material + classic hits, pretty interesting
Meaning possibly Romeo and Juliet, Going Home, One Song at a Time and Good on You Son?
-
I wonder which songs he'll play. Bearing in mind it's just a small studio he'll have a teeny weeny band.
Wild Theme
Good On You
Matchstick Man
Tunnel of Love (ho-ho-ho)
-
If it's a small studio it will be filled with Guy and .. Mark. .. errm.....

I don't think he plays "Good on you son", as it's the single it will be played the radio edit version and probably MK and the band (at least Guy will be) would play some new songs, one or two and the usual suspects.

Makes sense, however last time he played BLT so...

I don't know how are the rest of new songs but GOYS sounds like a complicate song full of instruments to be played live, the breaks needs work on them... I don't see them working that hard for a radio program, they don't even work that hard for a tour...

I'm not so sure. The keyboard parts could be sampled and saved onto Guy's keyboard when played live so all he has to do is press a button. Danny can handle the drums. Even if a simplified version is performed (without sax) I'm sure it could still sound good.
-
I hope so!

Perhaps they will reveal the tour while MK is there. Remember the rumor for the tourannouncement is also monday..

Just remember tomorrow MK will be playing live at the Ken Bruce show in BBC Radio2.
Anyone could record it in lossless format?
I can listen it and record it but it would be the internet broadcast so it would be lossy.
-
I'll record on my television box as I did last time but I think it's compressed audio.
Apparently there will be video of it available on the R2 website, FB etc, don't know if that will be live.

Looks like the videos are uploaded later but there is no a live streaming video... Am i wrong? I can't find a live video stream.

Seems like Mark won't be on until much later. Probably about 11:00 and performing when we're trying to book our tickets. ::)

I doubt it would be lossless, but I’m no expert on these matters.
After a bit of Googling I have found this link but not sure it will work in your Country, worth a try maybe?

Sorry. Timezone dizzy.
-
MK is due on very soon :)
-
It's on, finally!!
-
On now - R&J first up!
-
Listening now - first up, Romeo!
-
Is Romeo played on a regular acoustic guitar?
-
GOOSEBUMPS! :D
-
First song is Romeo, played on acoustic I think rather than the national.
-
No finger snap. Booo! ;D
-
A Beard resonator. Cool!
-
Time for a convenience break then as R&J is being played!!!!!!
-
GOYS
-
Now we have slimmed down Good on You Son!
-
GOYS
Sounds great! It'll work live.
-
Fabulous, can't wait to hear it later on after work....
-
Thought we were going to get One Song at a Time..but...no....Good on You....
-
Band is;
Guy
Robbie Mckintosh
Danny Cummings
-
One more song to come!
-
They are going to do one more later - really hope it is something new!
-
Yeah, nice! One more song to come. . . .
-
One more song to come!
Hoping for it to be a song from the new album...
-
Sounds great, even stripped down. Full band version will be fab.
-
Perhaps it will be an exclusive track from the album???
-
One more song to come!
Hoping for it to be a song from the new album...
Hoping it's not Wild Theme.

Better not be Wild Theme! :)

Heard it in the background and it does indeed sound good, will listen to it fully later.....
-
GOYS
Sounds great! It'll work live.
That did sound good, with some nice licks thrown in. Could be a great opener for the tour?
Pondy
-
only R&J & GOYS ..maybe that's all?
-
Whatever it will be, its great to have the master back on the radio!!!
-
Paul Simon cover.......???
-
Holy smokes!
A cover!
Classic moment in the making.
-
The Boxer!
-
Hahaha, The Boxer!! That was certainly surprising. ;D
-
The boxer, never saw that one coming.....
-
Different...... :o
-
There’s usually a cover version on these radio 2 sessions, but wow actually getting mark to do one.
Got to say ge’s On form. Singing and guitar spot on plus he sounds happy and chirpy in his own shy way.
Optimistic now about album and tour.
Oh and Danny there too. All friends again!
-
Well, that's different: 'The Boxer'. Very nice. He does nice interpretations of others' songs does he not?
-

Paul Simon's cover????
-
Paul Simon's cover????
So it seems, if someone can share a link later on that woul be nice...
-
That was amazing! I loved that version of R&J and GOYS sounded good, considering it was only four musicians. The biggest surprise was to hear him playing The Boxer - I loved it! :thumbsup
-
Great, can't wait to listen later....only 15mins to go!!!!
-
now I listen the best song of the program, after almost 2 hours.....
-
Send a PM in the next hour if you want to listen b4 the BBC 2 site is updated.

Mark doing Paul Simon? My life is complete! I WANT TO HEAR THAT!

Mark doing Paul Simon? My life is complete! I WANT TO HEAR THAT!
Hey Amigo,
I listen all, IMO nothin of memorable.... :wave
-
Fun to listen to, but they seriously should have rehearsed more. This was not a smooth performance, to say the least.
The Boxer was the best performance, IMO. Nice to hear Mark acknowledge other musicians like that (not just Dylan and Chet Atkins, the usual suspects).
On a side note - Mark should seriously consider replacing Richard with Robbie for the tour. Richard is more versatile, I guess, but Robbie is much more present as a guitar player.

One of the best Paul Simon songs and the performance is very good. On par with late Simon himself. Mark always does the best covers!

He probably googled "songs about boxers" to fill the third song and fulfil the contract with BBC and indeed The Boxer is #1 in all the lists. Wow, Mark, great moves! :lol :lol :lol

But it's a mystery why he didn't use the National 14 fret reissue. :think

Wow, interesting. And this Beard reso is a lot cheaper than any National by the way. But the price isn't what concerns me at all, it sounds just like a regular acoustic through this pickup.

Mark now looks a bit like Dr Bunsen Honeydew from the Muppets!

Good to see Danny back.....

Just listened. That was lovely. Thanks for the video. Love the percussion. Romeo works really well like this if you ask me. The Boxer was brilliant. Great stuff.
-
just seen it too
-
Just listened to the radio 2 presentation and what lovely musicianship... The boxer was amazing and loved that...
To be honest I'm not fussed one bit what he and the band play on the tour, I'm just happy to be going!!!!

It is hard to stay positive isn’t it guys? Be happy that he plays a different song instead the usual Bonaparte.I loved it.

I would have preferred that Mark had sung a his song that The Boxer, well done I know, but I wonder why this time he choice a song like this, so sad.
I feel a Mark too sad this time, also with a smile in the face, too sad..this is what I feel and I don't know why... :'(

I'm pretty sure it won't be played at a concert. It was just played as a tribute to Paul Simon. :)

Mark did covers before and never played it live. Have he ever played "What A Wonderful World", "Restless Farewell", "The Lily Of The West", etc.?
No!

"Today is OK. Today is just fine."
Amazing!!! Simply beautiful!!!
Saul
dIRE sTRAITS Light!! :)

Some nice les paul licks in GOYS.. he sure still knows how to play that thing ;)
-
Thanks for sharing and posting the radio performance.
Really awesome to here Mark again playing live. And GOYS is really great, must be a good one with the whole band as well!. Nice guitar licks indeed, makes me very happy :D.
If I didn't know he played The Boxer I really would have thought by the intro he played "My heart has never changed.." :lol

Just a general impression when he plays lead. I may be (hope I am) wrong though.
-
Anyone noticed his singing during this promo gig is much better than the TV things that he did in 2015? He sounded like Krusty there.

Full performance with interview

I did. His singing has improved and I actually thought he sounded quite rough during the interview like he had a cold or something. Promises much for the upcoming tour IMO.

Around 1:50 and 3:20, in general his left hand is shaking all the time like he is crazy nervous or something ???

About the guitar used on Romeo, it's not the first time Mark plays this song on normal acoustic
he did it during STP promo tour
can't find it on YT, but the version is avalailble on the 2000 promo tour bootleg : it's on Craig Kilborn Show 29-11-2000
only guitar and piano and the guitar doesn't sound national
-
No tremors there, just MK doing what I'm sure most guitarist's including myself do to 'shake' the string to 'vibrate' the note... Its a natural thing I personally do on the fretboard..

Its not a normal acoustic, but a Dobro Mark got as a gift from Jerry Douglas. :) It has a resonator cone :)

Totally agree with your comments with regards Robbie. Ive admired him since he played for Paul Mccartney especially the 'New World' tour when his guitar playing was legendary....Incidentally I'm seeing Robbie in concert on the 16th November.....

Also what's cool is that Robbie sounds a bit like MK himself, e. g. on The Boxer sometimes you can't tell who's playing acoustic and electric. He just suits his music stylistic-wise. But we all know that Mark will never replace Richard for anyone. And to be honest, I wouldn't, too.

Thing is personally I like both Richard and Robbie....both guitar geniuses in their own right..

I know what a vibrato is ;) That's not what I'm referring to. It seems, to me, that there's a sort of nervousness or restlessness, in both hands. And when he moves his fingers around on the fretboard, the movements are also a bit stiff. Could be just "age", though.

Yeah that I thought myself as well. And most vibrate stuff you do with your left hand, and his right hand is more shakey. I play also guitar and can also play the same finger style as Mark (not as good though :P) and this does not look like a normal vibrate thing to me. If you compare it with older videos or Dire Straits it never looked that nervous. Maybe I also ”worry“ too much ;D. An age thing could it also be...

Something weird going on with Mark's hands. Like a tremor of sorts.
Since you brought that up, yes, I've been noticing that for a while now but never said anything because maybe it would have sounded bad to one's ears.

Take a look at the little solo from around 1:38 to 1:48. To me his movements seem rather stiff and uncertain as it were. It's not like he has Parkinson's disease or something. Actually maybe "tremor" or "trembly" were the wrong words altogether, and I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong. But this is the impression I have. Something has changed. But again, it may just be that he's getting older.

He comes from the North so he's used to the cold. Glasgow's always cold and wet!

Virtually every video it see of people asking for autographs etc is really uncomfortable and always makes me think how uncomfortable it must be for many/most famous people - if that was me I would isolate myself - be on guard, be wary etc all the time. Why people have to be so weird is beyond me - a real pack mentality that feels tense to me rather than anything pleasant or joyful. Gives me the creeps so goodness knows what it does to those on the receieving end....

Certainly looks like it. The original ‘58 is more worn than that.

Seems to be a reissue, more flame than the real 58.
With regard to the fans, two things:
I was surprised there were so many people - professional autograph people? Anyone checked eBay?
Secondly, very rude to ask him to sign more than one item IMO but this may relate to my first point.
-
Woah, that video of MK being hounded was very uncomfortable... Looked like there were some genuine fans and then the paparazzi 'Crows' shouting 'MAK MAK'
Why some can't respect that he's signed enough items and wants to walk away was cringeworthy...
I now know why he is reluctant to sign.... I obviously got lucky when I met him and he signed 3 items for me. I didn't hang around like some of those people did.... Grrrr

Funny, I seen Ricardo outside the RAH years back and hunters (no pun intended) chased him for autographs. He took his time and spoke to a group of people. Seemed a really nice chap. Joe Brown was about the same door as he was a special guest that evening.
On another occasion, also at the RAH, John McCusker came and stood right next to me, smoked a fag and made a phone call! No one bothered him at all but he was wearing a woolly hat so you probably wouldn't have recognised him unless he was really close.
-
I used to work in the music business - I frequently saw performers harrassed - I worked a few times with George Harrison and it was a real eye opener - every night he was in the venue there was a huge gathering of people wanting to see him or get him to sign something. The oddest ones, for me, were the people who brought gifts in for him - not for him to sign but things for him to have and keep. I once collected a large pile of books, one of which was a "how to play guitar" book......intended for him - suffice to say he did not want them...some of the people were pretty creepy and George often looked pretty spooked and twitchy.

Ha, listening to Good on You Son, I had to laugh out loud at the middle part – this time, LE, he gets he phrasing right on "cut, slice it, chop it up - to the rythm of a cockney rebel". ;D
I'm still quite sure that the album version of that part was pasted together from two takes, and not quite perfectly so (which is astonishing for a perfectionist like Mark). But whatever, I do have MY version now (especially since it doesn't have any synths on it, haha).

And what, what a touching performance of The Boxer!

I must say I like that stripped down version of Good On You Son much better than the album one. It really works in this modest arrangement.

1 more adjustment like getting rid of the intro which has nothing to do with the rest of the song and it works 100%, still it's only a 6+ song for MK standards imo

Absolutely. I disliked this intro from the very first listen. Not every song should start with an intro.
If Mark would write Sultans for this album instead of his debut, you can bet it would have an intro like that :lol
-
The intro is played in the BBC Version as well...
And it's what I like best on this song together with maybe the first verse. I still hate the chorus and the unfitting Sax break.

I agree a bit about the sax. However, I makes me a feeling as there is change of the scene in a movie or something like that.

The best part for me is when the guitar meets the sax in a great crescendo! Oh, I love the chorus too! Perhaps the only part I could do without is the percussion break! :)
-
I like specially the sax break. The song goes in a different direction which is surprising and fresh, I like to be surprised and honestly, MK was being too predictable during most of his solo career...

Actually, I find that his solo records are quite varied. His live shows, though, is a different matter. Especially from 2005 onwards.

The only part of GOYS I don't like much is the first half of the chorus, which sounds too obvious and doesn't really fit in imho.

Ooooh, I know exactly what you mean. My legs turned to jelly and I could hardly speak when I chatted with him at Bridport... I was a complete and utter mess.... Wouldn't have dreamt about shouting his name though as it lacks respect... The chat and handshake I had was amazing and the three signatures from 'the master' were an absolute bonus...

A Kemper is a digital hardware, basically a powerful computer, which simulates all the existing amps.
It's considered the best in simulations and is very close to the original tube amps.
The pic resembles a Kemper, not completely sure tough, but we don't even know if it was used by MK nor if it was his own one or it
was simply already there. I don't see MK using a Kemper live in a tour, even tough many artists, including big ones, do.
