When I was in Barcelona years ago I walked all the way up there just to see the venue where DS played (nutter :lol). It's not such a bad place really. Isn't there a stadium next door too? I seem to recall the doors were open and I had a peek inside. Apart from that there's nothing much up there from what I recall apart from views over the city.
Apparently the tenants are FC Barcelona. Wonder if Messi will be at the concert...

Palau Sant Jordi is a tricky place because of the acoustics. I attended there many concerts and they usually sounds well. I saw MK there I think two times with the stage at the middle of the arena and the sound wasn't bad considering half venue was empty behind the stage and the sound was being loose through the Dome...

Could the many DS songs indicate that this is indeed the last big tour? At any rate, I really hope they do play some of the old DS songs. They really need to be brought back to life. By the man himself. This is exciting.

For this reason is probably a set list full of surprises, it was certainly not safe given that in the past the set lists were static.

I think the performance has been sublime regardless of fast solos or not. Much better performance and more well put together show than beginning of the last tour. They have worked way harder this time around.
Agree. A lot of thought has been put into the arrangements and not just cobbled together auto-pilot from last tour.

Totally agree. I also think Nobody Does That didn't really work and Matchstick is a waste of time, although I reckon I'm in a minority. He has a habit of choosing the wrong songs from new albums.

A female vocalist is on Trapper and Dancefloor. Could it be a female vocalists joins later during the tour and then they will do those songs then? I vaguely remember they did something like that in the past during a tour. That after a musician joined the band they started playing other songs.
The RAH gigs specifically mentions guest stars! And Imelda is doing something early May but probably free later in the month...

Just one of the many highlights. Bravo to Mark and the band for this. I am disappointed not hearing Sultans and OSAAT, however this is just one concert. The show did have minimal guitar but it's great to have him back and if we can have great refreshing songs like this then I'm happy and the audience sounded pretty happy too.

I totaly agree with you on this. Corned was okay but he could have left that one out. Replace it for Trapper man. Second song Nobody does that was really a bad choice after a great new WAM!

Something I have noticed is the sound is much better than last tour. All the instruments are very clear and well mixed and Mark's guitar's sound great. The light show looks fab as well.

And I have to say that both brass guys seem to need a long time until the are really into this band. In all videos so far both look tense and almost bored and uncomfortable like where the f... Have we ended here? Alien to this band situation somehow.
Their contributions are great if course. The Sax fits much better than Nigel, while Chris White stays unbeaten.

What a version of Once Upon a Time! That song has never been a favorite of mine, but in this occasion it sounds fresh. And the Les Paul does it job here.
The full intro (and outro) version of MFN is great, and maybe the ultimate clue that this actually IS the final tour. ::)

I was as if Mark had read this forum, and wanted to send us a message: ok, you think I'm too static, playing the same thing over and over ? Let's see then.
Although I know OUATITW by heart, it took me a lot of seconds to actually name it - my brain had a failure and just could not connect what it was hearing with what I knew.
I was so happy to hear WAM as an opener - and what a version ! Selfishly it is also because I never had the chance to hear it live - Now it's done in the best way :)
Hearing Silvertown and MFN (with fantastic old intro ! ) were also shocking experiences, in the best of ways. I thought TR would be dropped, but no ! It was in a such a dream state when it came, that I thought that the "karaoke mode" might be dropped and the first guitar solo would be resurrected ! Alas no, but never mind.
Almost everything has been rearranged with the new musicians. This last solo your has a bit of a feel of the last DS tour: crowded stage, and every musician has a chance to shine... Negative people will say that Mark is trying to burry the (lack of) guitar under sax and trumpet, but who cares, the result is a fantastic new sound !
I was moved to tears. Never seen Mark so chatty. Lame humour was dropped in favor of self-deprecating farewell talk ("I'm an older man"..."grandpa needs to go to bed"..."it is not only hello Barcelona but also good bye Barcelona"... Strangely, no band introductions. To save every bit of time for music ? The show lasted an incredible 2.5 hours, unseen since 1996 !
Songs like Heart full of Holes and Machstick man were taken a whole new level compare to the album, with majesty and sounding like personal confessions. Even the Spanish crowd, that was a bit disrespectful at times (wisteling during STP for instance) was dead silent during these intimate moments.
Too bad we didn't get One Song At a Time as a closer - this would have been perfect. As usual, Mark didn't do complete justice to the new album. One Bacon Roll was fabulous, and why choose "Nobody does that ?" Nobody does that but you, Mark ! Never mind :)
But it was so good, then why stop, then ? Well, don't you think it is better to leave on a high than on a low ? I just hope he can finish this tour as well as he started it. I was very close to the stage and I could clearly see him shaking, struggling to focus with intense concentration. He his pushing himself to his current limits. Thanks for that Grandpa - we love you so much !

I thought there was a Romeo ending with strat. Did i fell asleep?
I said at the time it wasn't the Strat - it sounded different. I knew instantly we weren't getting Sultans from that point. Funny because he could already change over to the blue Pensa and play the outro, then into Bacon Roll surely?

Here is this new brass section coming in and having their influence on most of the songs and the folkies have been pushed to the side with songs like Haul Away, Privateering and Marbletown axed and the guys being forced to play tambourines. I wonder what they're thinking and if musicians of their calibre were really needed on this tour.

Ianto might be a hell of a drummer, but his jazz DNA totally not suits this song. He totally not nailed the intro. Imagine this being played by 2010 Danny. And I have to say that both brass guys seem to need a long time until the are really into this band. In all videos so far both look tense and almost bored and uncomfortable like where the f... Have we ended here? Alien to this band situation somehow.
Their contributions are great if course. The Sax fits much better than Nigel, while Chris White stays unbeaten.

Agree regarding Nobody Does That - nobody should've done that! Although I'd love to hear One Song, Bacon Roll was very nice so rather at the expense of another song. Don't understand the liking of Matchstick Man. Could omit that altogether as far as I'm concerned. Why play Privateering when he has Sky and Water, the new sea shanty? BIA has had it's day - OES was performed better last night than any version in 2015 without doubt. As I said way back in 2015 his guitar needed a thicker sound and now we have it. We're really being picky though because it's a great set that works well.

erm, its most certainly the back playing up, His movements aren't good. Mind you his stomach does act as a good wedge for the guitar....

I agree with that, I have watched an audience shot performance where the visuals are good but the sound not so good, but then listened to the official download version, and the sound and playing are incredible. I still think he has an injury though, he is not moving when playing solo's, which is unusual for him.
Again the back seems the issue and I am wondering some sort of Arthritis?? He is somewhat 'Rooted to the spot'

I know this was only the first night, but I'm not exactly over the moon about this at all. He seems to be struggling imo.
you can't listen something with a crap sound quality like that one, I have a basically perfect audience recording, outstanding playing,
the only problem is that it's a short final solo
Good sound doesn't make a struggling performance outstanding!
there's zero struggling infact, you have no idea what you are talking about, if you listen to a crap recording you don't get what's really happening, even if you have a very trained ear, that recording is just unlistenable, same for the valencia one

Whatever the merit of judging these performances there's no doubt that the tempo of TR was subtly altered some time ago to aid mark a little. Plenty of little 'greenies' in both performances, but also plenty of effort and still some good little fluid passages.
Gives us mere mortals some hope ;)

indeed, relax, enjoy the tour as it goes on, it WILL be the last one.Yes Agree 100% pottel! We need to just give the man our full support/admiration for the decades of enjoyment he has given to us all! Be thankful he still writes, records and performs but now now constrained by failing physical adroitness.

As a person with arthritis, in almost every joint of my body, I can totally empathize with Mark if his does have it! His early years as a Hill Farmer, exposed to all weathers and a motorbike accident, must have had some impact on his body, so let's just be REAL happy that he can still lift a guitar let alone do all these concerts for us fans.

Yes, speed is the only thing that has suffered (quite big time) for the last 15 years, especially since he was so fast previously.
Gilmour for example has not suffered much on the speed side cause pink floyd songs have always been pretty slow since the very beginning, contrarily to dire straits songs.
Regarding all the rest, touch, inspiration, is beyond imagination,
for example Telegraph Road final solo from 1992 was much faster than now obviously, but he is struggling now ?
I don't think so, actually the Barcelona final solo from this tour imo is much more enjoyable overall to me than the much faster ones.

As much as I like the album version of Nobody Does That, I agree that it isn't working live (yet), mainly because Mark just mumbles and is hardly understandable. The relaxed feel of OUATITW is absolutely gorgeous. Plus he plays some very signature style licks on that one.
Silvertown Blues needs some more runnings to be really great. On Every Street doesn't do it for me live as it already didn't in 2015 with this band as it so much needs Paul Franklin. Otherwise I do not really miss anything. Maybe Father and Son, but certainly not HFB or Sultans which had their time and were not given justice anymore in 2015. Good to skip them now.
Just some thoughts.

To see Mark playing STP and DWB seems much more right and better than Skydiver or Broken Bones. It's a lovely feeling of homecoming and satisfaction. The new arrangement of Matchstick Man is really beautiful and My Beacon Roll is pretty good in the second half.

Good point. Which is why everything seemed so effortless before. To make the improvisation approach work and not turn into a mess, you really need to be on your toes and have a huge vocabulary at the ready.
