Title: Scenes from a Mark Knopfler biopic.
Post by: MagicElliott on May 30, 2019, 04:28:32 PM
Hi all,

At the time of writing, two films about the life of two famous musicians are very popular: Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman.

Clearly, Mark has never lead the kind of life that means they'd make a film about him (probably a good thing for us fans) but it got me thinking, if they were to, what would some of the scenes be called on the "scene selection" on the DVD menu?

I write this knowing full well I'm a newbie on the forum. I am not writing this to disrespect Mark at all and it is tongue in cheek. However, I've seen all the same interviews as the rest of you and know what questions, stories and answers come up so it's based on that.

Some I thought of were (roughly in chronological order"
1: "Uncle Kingsley and boogie-woogie piano"
2: "Blowing up the family radio."
3: "Chuck Berry at Newcastle City Hall."
4: "Meeting John Illsley/why did you wake me up?"

All the way down to:

10: "discovering Glenn Worf"
11: "Wow-how busy is this bass player?"
12: "Having a swing at Macbeth."
13: "Put the kettle on Guy."
14: "Put the kettle on Guy."
15: "Put the kettle on Guy."
16: "Put the kettle on Guy."

Any other ideas?

The stuff with David could actually make a good film.

The sausages story from 1992 and the helmet story with Ed being fired in 2000 should provide the Freddie-like anecdotes :)

That Matchstick Man story filmed in b/w and then a brutal cut to his motorbike accident could be the opening sequence...  Then a cut to the Royal Albert Hall, hearing a radio voice telling that the tour is cancelled...

Or him spinning the first Dylan record, or the complete scenario of We Can Get Wild..

Meeting and working with Bob Dylan would probably be my most sought-after moment in the film or in Mark's autobiography *Cough Cough*.

Didn’t he drive Clapton to the Betty Ford clinic in LA at Least ECs lowest point to sort him out? If thats true it could be an interesting scene.

Is there a source for this story? Never heard of it, and he always seemed like a clean drug-free kinda guy to me.

Maybe it was ammonia, like the power lifters do. Big challenge playing with Chet, you know.

Anyhow, a chapter about being with Chet definitely has to be included.

During the Infidels sessions, didn't Bob hang around at Mark's place, playing pool?
