Since the tour now more or less has stabilized and settled into a certain format, I don't really bother reading each concert thread anymore as they are really the same now (maybe one or two songs omitted in the middle, three or four songs on rotation in the encores).
I therefore thought it would be a good idea to have a thread were we could post "breaking news", such as the introduction of new songs to the setlist, band members filling new roles (Danny on STP for instance), new arrangements, new instruments, band/crew member replacements, etc. Not that I expect a lot of breaking news, but you never know.
Admins: Maybe this thread could be made a sticky?
-
The breaking news so far would be Mark changing to pink shirt :lol
-
Today a greenisch- blueish short sleeved shirt! :D
-
Ha-ha!
(Please keep the thread for REAL news though.)
-
let us see if this thread will get filled before the trip accross the ocean.

Guy confirmed yesterday in his forum that Antwerpen was filmed?
Could that be a Blu Ray release? :think

Just read Guys diary of the Nimes show. He said things like: Last show there and au revoir Nimes.
Maybe MK really retires?

That's been his tone since the start - nothing's changed. Not really sure why people are so certain to think he's going to continue anyway. So he altered his farewell speech slightly, but surely it was just to make it less sombre? He realised his original one just killed the atmosphere stone dead.
-
Now some real news:
Quoting dona74:
Yesterday in Stupinigi we had a support act! at 19.00 on stage we had mr. Mc Goldrick and Mr. Mc Cusker plaiyng 5 scottish folks songs.... They said it was the first time that Mark allow them to do a personal gig before the main show...Very nice...

Nice gesture by Mark, indeed.

I have had this feeling the whole week... that when the US tour starts, we will se TR + BIA standard in the set!! :'(
Good for the people attending these shows, worse for us who have attended already, hoped for BIA and got PTTE... TR i realised early it would not feature after the spanish shows... but something tells me it will in the US. :thumbsdown

Maybe not. Herb Alpert's doing gigs at 84 years of age. Les Paul was doing regular shows in New York in his 90's.

I think he's done with his TR and BIA. Personally, I think Mark has been reflecting on the work he has done, and is maybe regretting not playing more of his other work over the years. Not regretting in a bad way, but just maybe realising how much good work he has written, and could have played more of it live. I mean, who would have thought he would have played WUATITW on this tour?
-
Personally I think one reason for adding Once Upon a Time is, maybe, to compensate for the removal of Sultans. They know the fans crave some of the early goldies. Not only is it a very cool song, but it is a lot easier to play than Sultans. And Sultans had really gotten long in the tooth by now. Good choice to get rid of it.
-
Or he simply felt like playing it, for like, whatever reason?

As I've said before, what worries me is that Mark is not the least bit sentimental when it comes to his music career. He doesn't look back and once he's made a choice that's it's. So it's quite possibly the case that the decision to quit touring has already been made.
Once you change the outcome of the creative process who knows what the effect will be. Maybe MK won't be as driven to write and record....
I hope I'm wrong of course...
-
Touring-wise he has experienced it all. Played for huge crowds in some of the world's most legendary and amazing venues. So what more is there to experience for him, except more of the same? After a break, I guess he is eager for the buzz of playing live again, but after a few shows, Mark the Professional kicks in. I'm not saying he doesn't have a good time, but it must become another day at the office after a while.

I hope you're wrong too! I understand why MK has said he will stop touring - particularly with his present physical condition, but I'm sure he won't retire from being a musician. He will always want to write songs, play and record them as long as he is able. Anyway, I'm pretty certain he has a big stack of unreleased material to keep us happy for many years! :)

Good choice to get rid of Sultans..that song defines the start of Marks career, a true milestone which is always a pleasure to hear live regardless. My opinion

I understand what you're saying, but he has not done this song justice during the last couple of tours. Half-hearted attempt, played more out of duty than out of inspiration, messy solos, etc. Yes, good riddance.

Yes. Somehow I feel that he has less pain (and painkillers?) now and thus also the playing is better.

In the last part of the EU tour, he started holding his hand in front of his eyes, showing what he meant.. and the shouting of course. Ljubljana x5 times must be the record.
In Krakow he embedded it in WAM: "Drills and hammers, please turn it off!" And during Bonaparte saying to another fan: "Will you turn that shit off?".

I honestly can't see everyone checking their phones to see if a light comes on at the front when they start recording just before the show starts because Crocks asks them to. Most people only want to record MFN anyway.

Mark's got a new lumberjack shirt and fleece jacket. That's about it so far?

I really hoped for at least one new song in the setlist during the American tour. It didn't expect something like the big surprises in 2015 like On Every Street and Your Latest Trick. But just one other song in the set. I doubt that we'll get that during these last concerts.

Can't see any conspiracy in my post, it seems pretty obvious to me. And theories and assumptions are an integral part of any fan forum don't you think? I would never bother Guy with this.

And the absence of any live Blu-ray is a theme for years, I guess Guy would very much agree to document the last tours visually.

Guy said a video credit would be given so presumably it isn't for personal use. My suggestion perhaps isn't too crazy after all. It could be used to advertise on social media these days. It also explains why he asked for MFN, that being the biggest hit.

Why would Guy want an audience filmed Money For Nothing as a keepsake :hmm He has played in many many shows, he has those memories, which is better than an audience film!!!

Working on another album would be nice, and release Back in the Day on that... Have Guy or someone explained why it was withdrawn from DTRW?
Dream thinking would be new tour in 2021... We had 2 tours 2013-2015 so 2019-2021 is not impossible, but I doubt that it will happen considering how Mark has aged since last tour.

Record the cd for the Local hero musical and work in the adaptation of it for the London representations.

At the beginning of the tour I thought that would be impossible. I was worried about his well-being (still a bit) but last week he was on fire, sometimes playing better than the last few tours and it seems he's having fun! My dream scenario would be another tour in 2020 without a new record, he can make those after the tour ;D Let the circus continue rolling with maybe another two or three OUATITW-like surprises. Of course this his highly unlikely but I just won't think about this week being the end of the big shows.

Some really breaking news.
A MK interview in CBS tomorrow.
-
If I am right, this is today at 5 pm( german time).

I too was concerned about whether he would reach the end, however he is playing much better than at the start. Regarding any future touring possibility however one must bear in mind that the setlist has been tuned to accommodate his current ability and come next time he will be in his mid 70s...

That's quite interesting. The interview is from the Tracker tour if you look closely you see amps and the bass drum with the Tracker album cover. And they are using film from I think the Antwerp concert THIS tour. So it is 100% sure there is for sure 1 recording available from this tour already, in video I suppose!!!
-
It's not from Antwerpen but London o2. Look at the cannera in the head of the guitar. That only happened there.
-
Ah, I see it now. Thx
-
I've been in all (except the BBC one) concerts recorded on video of the MK solo career that never were released, except the one of London O2 this year, that can be seen in the CBS report...
I have the feeling that it might be a change they release it, LOL
-
Me too! Hope so.... But with MK when you hope it's not going to happen ;D ;D ;D Anyhow would be great to see a proper video this time. These snippets look great.

Don't forget that they recorded at least three concerts (maybe four) from the Tracker tour, by Henrik Hansen, and except the bits included in the "Good on you son" video clip, the material lies on a drawer... or a closet :lol

I checked the O2 London arena diary by Guy and that's what he said:
Our set itself wasn’t without its technical difficulties. At the beginning of the second song, the entire lighting rig failed. It took LD, Tellson James, a few seconds to react and hit Mark with a spot whilst the lighting boys re-patched or rebooted (I suspect the latter) and a couple of minutes later, it returned. It was interesting playing in the darkness for a few minutes. There were also a few rather off-putting crackles emanating from an electric guitar, I suspect from stage left and Richard’s rig. Not sure what happened but considering we’ve done 22 shows and it’s the first instance of such things, we’re not doing too badly.
Looks unlikely they would release a dvd/bluray of a concert where lights went off for some minutes and they had to play in the dark... :hmm

They could mix it with Antwerp (if they recorded that one as well) or with another concert they recorded. That could work... I was just looking trough some videos from the O2. Also in Romeo Mark asked again somebody to turn the light off... That is also not so nice dvd/blu-ray material I guess :smack :lol :lol
Really hope they would release something like that. But I’m not getting my hopes up again, I believe it when it is in my mailbox :lol

I believe that's similar to Henrik Hansen thoughts... "I hope they would pay me something, anyway"
LOL

The last few shows have been outstanding performances and would've made for a fine DVD, although missing the killer songs.
