As a collector, I always wondered why there are so few bootlegs of probably the most interesting and exciting period of the MK career...
Just three silver pressed bootlegs, two of them of the same concert (Suffolk 90) and one made by fans (Swan Hunter 93), plus a cd-r pro of one of the London 90 concerts...
With a lot of concerts played in 1990, and some charity between 1993 and 1996, one small tour in 1997, and two residences at the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Birmingham and London, just three silver pressed bootlegs and a cd-r pro, they look a very small number for so many concerts as interesting as they were...
I know that we have audio recordings of almost all of them, but I'm talking in collector terms, about silver pressed bootlegs, that there are a lof of Dire Straits and also MK solo career...
In concrete, these are the ones released:
Suffolk, The Maltings Snape 90

Newcastle 93, Swan Hunter Charity concert
(http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/silverpressed_swanhunter_A.jpg)
London 90 cd-r pro
(http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/silverpressed_theothersideofthenhb_A.jpg)
EDIT: Also four songs in this silver pressed bootleg
MK and friends: Dire Straits and Hillbillies farewell
(http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/silverpressed_dsnhbfarewell_C.jpg)
Calling Elvis/Run me down/Quality shoe and Setting me up
As a collector, I wish there would be more of them, some of the 90 concerts in complete format, that 97 concerts or the very special Ronnie Scotts ones...
I hope that with this new lot of cd's and vinyls that are being released one day, one of those could be released, as a collector, I would be very happy...
If you are a collector, what do you think?

It's a big shame they never released anything else than the studio album, or recorded another one.
A professionally recorded NHB live album from Ronnie Scott's for instance would have been fantastic.

Snape is a TV production, not an official release. Plus I think the playing, performance and atmosphere are in a different league at Ronnie Scott's than at Snape.

There is a funny anecdote for Spanish fans. The most famous radio station at the 90's, "Los 40 principales" broadcast the Nimes 92 concert. It was commented (like if comments were needed) by the most important dj they had (I don't know why...) and he did all sort of clever comments like the concert was recorded in Wembley, that they had at that concert Eric Clapton and Tina Turner as guests, and the biggest one, The Notting Hillbillies were at that very same moment recording his second solo record... :smack :hmm :disbelief
Many fans that didn't know that dj was something that never give a damm about whatever, believed him and thought that a second NHB record was being recorded, of course it was just bullshit, as everything he says (he still works for that radio...) ??? ::)
It's a pity that there is not any other NHB release, the amount of songs they used to play live is so big that they could had released three more records. The 90 setlist was quite different from the 97 to 99 setlist, and during the different small tours in 97, 98 and 99, they introduced new songs from one year to the next...
If someone wants to compile all the live songs played by them, probably will end with at least four cds... ;D
The Ronnie Scotts shows had a very special vibe and, together with the 90 set, probably the best repertoire the NHB ever played.
I know that MK always looks forward, but a little look backwards from time to time won't hurt him anyway. :wave :think
However, I fear that if we wait for a NHB live release, it's more likely that any bootleger does it that MK himself :smack

Wasn't he right?
Of course that Dire Straits had EC and Tina guesting in Wembley.

LOL
I recall when they said that about the second Notting Hillbillies record, songs like "Down the road apiece", "When you've got a good friend", "One woman man" or "Rainy, rainy day", that were on the NHB 90 set could have a studio version but... I don't know why I believed him... maybe just because I wanted it to happen!
The NHB 90 set was just so great, I think I like it more than the 97-99 set, that was really good as well.
-
I forgot that there is another silver pressed bootleg with, at least, some Notting Hillbillies stuff:
Of the 13 songs it has, the four firsts songs are from The Notting Hillbillies part of the concert (Calling Elvis/Run me down/Quality shoe and Setting me up)
-
I always thought Calling Elvis was a strange choice for an NHB setlist.

Well they cover his songs so I suppose they want to call him up to ask permission. ???
-
Cue drum roll ;D

Looks like this "Ronnie Scotts" silver bootleg of The Notting Hillbillies release was stand by because of the lockdown, and it's about to put in circulation next week.
I'm very much looking forward to it. It dissapeared of all ebay listings when the lockdown started, I guess that it will be back very soon, so stay tuned!
