Looks like John Mayer has been listening to a lot of DS/MK lately 👇🏻

His new album is heavily influenced by the 1980’s and you can pick up DS bits all over it. Great album btw.

Very Knopfleresque.
The song could have been on the first or second DS album.
I like the song and the whole album as well.
But I don't think John's inspired by MK or DS, he never mentioned them. He actually said this song was inspired by JJ Cale, which you probably hear as well.
And that the whole album was inspired by the 80's (including the lovely album cover).
And since DS was inspired by JJ and were big in the 80's, it makes sence we hear DS bits here and there.

He’s actually mentioned Mark a few times in interviews. In one of them he’s with Keith Urban and they both talk about the craftsmanship that is involved in everything Mark puts out.

I listen a lot to JM, and I think he is heavily inspired by MK. I’d say he’s more vocal about being inspired by SRV and EC because they’re easier to copy. Of course Continuum is his best album, but I think most MK fans would appreciate Born and Raised as well.

That's actually Keith Urban talking about Mark and John just nods his head and agrees

The song resembles something from Mark's solo career more than the early DS days to me. Could be something from Tracker.

This song reminds me of the song "Rain" by our Russian band DDT. It's actually a song from the 80s but was re-recorded in the early 90s.
