I dont recall maybe do some of you ?
They shared musicians at some point (Nils) but did they ever perform together ?
Even though they are very different characters, they do share some brilliant story telling as artists.
-
I can't recall either. I don't know if that duo even makes sense, though I know a lot of people who are fans of both, myself included, so maybe a small collaboration would be nice. Bruce is far more popular than Mark and always been, so it's Mark who needs to beg for a collaboration and I can't see that happening.

i truly doubt he needs to "beg"
do not forget, Dire Straits were THE biggest band for a short period. Bruce never was the biggest "band".
also, there is the Roy Bittan or whatever his name was connection on Making Movies.

Well Bruce is doing a podcast with US President, I doubt that Mark is capable of doing that :lol But I agree, that Dire Straits were big deal. Mark played Bruce's song on "The British Grove Broadcast" and obviously know and respect his work.

I would think they respect each other. If Bruce did SFA and MK doing either "Waiting On A Sunny Day" or "Notting Man".
They have both performed with Emmelou Harris.

There is an 80s interview with MK and TBone Burnett where MK says he loves I’m On Fire.
Beyond My Wildest Dreams sounds like Bruce.

Bruce is American, so is more likely to do a podcast with the POTUS than MK. I'm sure MK is capable of doing that, but would he want to? I doubt it!

It's true.

I am sure Mark could even have a chat with the queen, if she/her wanted to. He is a real gentleman.

I love a bit of Springsteen so I remember someone asking GF if they have ever worked together or met. He replied that their paths cross occasionally. If you search Springsteen on his forum it was asked in March 2015. Not the greatest or informative answer but they have obviously met on occasions.

I agree. I think it is more likely he would have a chat with Her Majesty than the President, though. :)

They both have songs titled Tunnel of Love, plus Nils Lofgren played with Dire Straits. Another lose connection, Mark has a song titled Radio City Serenade, Bruce has New York City Serenade. Bruce recorded his album The River at the Power Station in New York, finishing on 9th May 1980, Dire Straits started recoding Making Movies on 20th June, so they could have met around that time, and as Roy Bitten is on Making Movies, it seem even more likely.
-
Not just the Bittan connection on MM. Jimmy Iovine as well.
-
And Neil Dorfsman has recorded some Springsteen albums, Matt Rollings played on Western Stars.
-
Bruce is probably still pissed off that Mark nicked the melody from jungleland for r&j 😉
-
Roy Bittan's interview circa 80-81 :
- JOURNALIST: “Romeo and Juliet” could have been on any Bruce album. Long and articulate stories reminiscent of “Incident on 57th Street” or “Spirit in the Night”
- ROY BITTAN: Yes there were a lot of similarities between them two at that time

I love "I'm on fire". Mark has a very good taste ;D
the first line of Beyond My Wildest Dreams' verse is very similar to the one in "My hometown"

I love when artists collaborate, it nearly always creates something way bigger than the sum of the parts. Pity artists barely collaborate, especially artists like Mark. If I were an artist, I would collaborate all the time with everybody. Only with collaboration power, we can get beautiful things like this:

One of my colleagues went to see Ed Sheeran at Wembley Staudium and complained that Pavarotti came on part way through which was not what she paid to see…..until I told her that Pavarotti has died a number of years before and perhaps she meant Andrea Bocelli?!?

Ha!

I found it sad that Mike Oldfield was once asked why he didn't collaborate much, and he replied, "no-one asks" If I was a musician I would ask him to contribute his wonderful guitar, or anything else. There is of course a lot more to it than his reply, knowing his history.

That's pretty understandable. I think you need to be a real snob to "force" collaborations, it usually happens almost by accident. And people who can theoretically "hire" Mike Oldfield as a duo partner, I think have a broad choice anyway.
I think Mark gets asked for collaborations a lot and unfortunately too often can't say "no" and we have a decent amount of "collaborations" where Mark's contribution was just to slap his recognisable name on someone else's record.

MK has collaborated a LOT over the years.
Jbaent put together a massive Spotify playlist of all the collaborations and he did a lot of live collaborations as well.
