Nice interview, even if DS was rather glossed over.

Nice to See Lee and the boys still going strong after all these years. One of the last decent music shops left in the UK......

Loved the "Lady In Red" part, because I always loved this muted guitar part, never knew it was Phil. Which says a lot about being a session musician. You don't know it was Phil until he says it was him. I loved "Before You Accuse Me" Knebworth story as well! And the audition story was hilarious, the ending had me laughing on the floor!

You should read his book. There’s ton of interesting stuff in it. This guy played with so many big names, it’s ridiculous.

Yes, his book is very interesting.

I bought it because of his 2 years with DS, obviously, and also because of his time with Clapton as well, but all stories are damm interesting, like the one regarding how he started playing with Tina Turner, and why he left as soon as he could!

But sure without tribute bands, his life's story would be much more interesting! I wonder if he wishes he wouldn't do that all. It's like, yeah, I played with everybody, but also this tribute band for the artist that is currently living and performing...

And I truly feel his pain over the fact he couldn't do Clapton's Unplugged because of the DS contract. I think it's pretty clear he would prefer to do Clapton's gig! In a parallel universe, imagine Vince Gill going on tour with DS and Phil playing with Eric.

That last DS tour with Jeff Porcaro or Manu Katche on drums, and Vince Gill on guitar would had been so great!

Lee is a lovely chap, his YouTube channel is one of the best guitar channels out there.

Cor, that would have been excellent......but alas we'll never know what that would have sounded like...

Let’s not forget Manu Katché’s statement on his sessions too. Wasn’t Mark going through divorce while recording OES? That’d explain a lot lol

Absolutely. Sometimes there are periods in your life when you act like a jerk, and you look at it after many years and laugh. I had this in my life and usually because of extreme psychological conditions. I'm pretty sure Mark could do it without testing 16 Stratocasters, the time was just not quite right.

Yes this book is really a must read for all of you people here. Apart from being really interesting as an insider's view of the music circus it's also a very nice life's story.
The part where he tells about the young native American he met in an Indian reservation during a Clapton tour is quite wonderful I think. She had a gift of vision and accurately told him a number of things which were to happen later in his life. That was a part where the book takes a really nice turn. How he narrowly escaped death thanks to Ferrone was also uncanny.

I had written to Phil that the printed book is quite expensive in Germany as a UK import and if he can also offer it as an ebook.
He immediately wrote back that he would take care of it - and a few days later it was available on Amazon. That's a service  :clap

The first book I ordered never arrived, when I told the guys in charge, they immediately dispached another with an extra signed photo inside.
