Title: Last time MK played the separate outro in SOS
Post by: ybot on March 03, 2022, 07:38:48 PM
Hello, was it in the end of Golden heart tour?
Has Mark ever told why he stopped it?

Well, some SOS in 2015 were not that bad.
Recently I listened again to Sion 2015 (which I attended) and the famous in-ear monitor LA 2001 one (which is highly praised). The difference between the 2 is not as striking as you would imagine. Same length, same licks, slightly less energery and pace in 2015, but still very comparable...

I enjoyed SOS in Manchester 2015 very much.

LA 2001 was one of the poorest shows of the tour IMHO.  Don't know where it's been highly praised.

The interesting thing is we are comparing the worst version from 2001 to the best version from 2015 and think the 2001 version is still slightly better.

Well, maybe it is highly praised because sound-wise it is a high quality soundboard :) also because it featured Bonny Raitt !
Performance-wise I like it quite a lot. TR solo is out of this world. I'm not sure why you say it is one of the worst of the tour.
I have also listen to a few others, Hamburg, Lucca, Madrid... I think LA SOS is quite on par with those...
But that Sion 2015 was the best of 2015, no doubt ! :)

People usually praise some concerts just because we have a soundboard of them. It's curious that some average concerts are considered as excellent, when the only excellent thing on them is the quality of the recording.

Certainly, but this is not my case here. I really like LA 2001 performance-wise. TR has one of the best solos I have ever heard. The guests makes it very special. Marked seemed to be in a very good mood and too form, much more than in Hamburg I think (although I like this one too).

Personally I'd say Boston or Albany were better but that's my preference.

2015 you mean ?
I am not objective about Sion maybe, that was a fabulous concert I attended, in outdoor, in the sunset, I was front row center, Mark was in a good mood, there was a technical problem at one point in Sos that put his guitar on mute, he laughed about it, that was fun... One of these nights where the stars were aligned !

I'd agree with that.  A lot of great show have an unfortunate poor SQ.

Yes, 2015.  Boston he start playing a bit like the old post piano break which was fun to hear.  Albany I think may have been filmed because we see a clip outside in the Good on You Son video, and it sounded like a concentrated performance.

fully agree.
for example, on eraly years people usually praise Rockpalast while I see nothing extraordinary on this concert
I far far prefer Barbarella' 78, Boston or Carré Amsterdam in fall 79, but yes th sound quality is poor on these ones

Birmingham 78 and Amsterdam Carre 79 are exceptional, also one of my favorites is San Remo 81.

Sound quality is not the most important, but the performance recorded.

Such a shame it was shortened after 1996, imho a rather “boring” song from 2001 onwards. :hmm

This is really interesting. I think the opposite that why I do not collect all the AUD recordings, but only radio/SB recordings.
My ears simply cannot handle peoples coughing, noise, talking, recorded far away, poor equipment etc., life is simply too short for AUD recordings :-) even if there is a great MK performance. I have tremendous respect for audiophiles that can value these AUD recordings so much, I really wish I could enjoy them more.

I thought I was the only one thinking like this. I can't deal with audio that isn't soundboard, I just can't. I have tried many times to get into them, there are so many unbelievable, rare bootlegs from '83 and I don't listen to them because of that. However there some AUD recordings that sound reasonably well: Wiesbaden 81, Tokyo 83 for example

The first bootleg that I got was San Remo 81,with bad noise for a first bootleg, but I was so amazed by the interpretations of every song that I didn't care about the sound quality at all, only about the performance.

Most of the best performances recorded are on audiences recordings, so everyone has his right to want to listen only good sounding soundboards. Missing the best performances is the price you have to pay.

I rarely listen to soundboards.

Soundboards are also my preference.

We were lucky to get so many great soundboards in 96. And recently we have had all the shows, but of course the performances have dipped.
