Title: Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing USA-Misprinted Cover
Post by: Klaus74 on March 29, 2022, 03:20:27 PM
Hello to all viny-maniacs.
The USA-version of the Sultans of swing-single by Dire Straits was released by Warner Brothers-Records in those days. I know two label-variations of that single. One with the multi-coloured so called Burbank-Label and one with the white-coloured label-style and the WB-Logo on top.
There is also a remarkable picture-cover for the US-Single. White background and brown-coloured types. That cover is a misprinted-cover. It shows the wrong title Soltans of swing instead of Sultans of swing.
Interesting to see that. But i have one question on the subject of that misprint-version. Are there any corrected covers around, or was the whole edition printed with that wrong cover ??
Who know´s more.

I've only seen that one. Do you have any picture of that multi-coloured?

Hello jbaent.
Here are two pics with the multi-color and the white WB labels from US-Editions. I got the white WB-Label single with that obscure misprinted cover. The multicolour WB-single has no pic-cover.

Ah! well, that's not a "Soltans" one then, LOL

No, the writings on both US-labels are correct, except the cover-typesetting. I have never seen corrected versions of that cover, so i come to the conclusion, that the complete edition was printed in the wrong lettering.

Yes, that's it.

Curiosly, that "Soltans of swing" and the following one, are considered as Belgium singles, but the labels say "Warner" instead of "Vertigo", it's something weird and confusing.

Yes, i also heard about that circumstance. Very curious, indeed.
What a find. I don´t know your shown cover.  8)

Now i have some newer knowledge about the Belgium-US-Single with the misprinted cover. Somebody at the vinyl-collectors site: www.45worlds.com said, that a part of the US-edition of the Sultans of swing-single had been imported to Belgium without picture-covers, and the misprinted cover is Belgium-made for the imported singles. They had been sold in Belgium with the cover in those days.
