Title: My MK Story
Post by: holaknopfler on September 21, 2009, 10:02:59 PM
Hello everyone!

I wanted to tell you my ''MK'' story!
It all started when I was on Holiday when I was 7 years old.
It was such a special moment that I will always remember it.
I was having breakfast, and then I heard Walk of Life on the radio, I asked my mum what the name of that song was.
And she said: ''That song is called Walk of Life and it`s from Dire Straits''.
When we arrived home I asked my mum to give me all the Dire Straits CD`S that she had, and I started listening to them.
Remember that I was 7 years old ;D
I was completely blown away by Marks guitarplaying!!
And from then, I used to run around my father the whole day asking him if he was going to by me a guitar.
He said: ''No''.:P
When I was ten he bought me a guitar and I started having lessons, my guitar teacher was always pissed of when I had practiced.
I was always trying to play like Mark, completely against his rules.
And I tell you, it didn`t bother me!:P
Now I`m 15 years old, and Mark is my hero!
When I`m sad, I listen to his music and it really keeps me going than.
Last year I went to Marks concert in Amsterdam(30-03-08 I will never forget that date) and next year I`ll be ther too!
For the Dutch people on this forum: who`s going the 29th too?;)

All the best,

Lars

Hey, Lars,
great story! You are one of the youngest members of this forum. Great to see that there are some youngsters coming up to celebrate Marks music!

Hi Lars, welcome here on the best MK-forum of the world  :)
I am from the Netherlands too and of course will do both concerts in Amsterdam.
At my home that days are also BBB, real name Nigel from England, Nelly from France and Maarten from Belgium but living in Germany.

Keep on this forum and catch up at what time and where we will meet, somewhere around the HMH.
We are used to meet up before the concert, having a drink and/or meal and in Hollland queue.

So I hope you are also going to join us then. I am happy a young man like you is amongst us now and I am sure I speak for others too.

Have fun here, hope to catch you in June  ;)

Don't forget all the others, last year there were up to 20 or 25 meeting before the concert. But it was the first gig of the tour, so much more flew in to attend the show.

Nice story.  I was about nine years old and when I visited my friends house his older brother used to play these great songs in his bedroom all the time so I asked him who it was and of course it was The Straits.  The Brothers In Arms album was just out at the time and I remember Money for Nothing was a favourite of his.

Lars,  Thanks for your story.    I was one of the forum members at both Amsterdam gigs in 2008 and I had a really great time with all the fans and they were amazing concerts too.  Unfortunately I won't be able to go to Amsterdam next time, but I hope you will enjoy yourself and meet a lot of forum members!   :D

As long as BBB's wife isn't jealous it's ok, otherwise she will not allow him to travel to Holland  :)

Every story about how someone 'discovered' MK is fun to read.   I love these threads.   It's also fun to know the great span of ages among MK fans! :)
