Mark's ten best albums, from the perspective of... Americana music.
You can read it here:

Thank you Shortfin :)
Who is Matt Snow? And what is he about :)
He has never let his talent or success change him. Where others may have moved to LA, he went back to the pubs of London.
Mark Knopfler is an essential americana artist: a Sultan of Swing.
:thumbsup

strange to put Altamira soundtrack in Americana style ???

What an utterly bizarre selection. No Love Over Gold, Making Movies or Shangri-La, but Ragpicker’s Dream and Tracker make it?!

It's about Americana style music, so for sure I don't see Love Over Gold there, and also Making Movies I would say.
In any case, any list made by one person is... personal, but I found it interesting precisely because Mark is not an artist who is 'categorised' in the Americana genre, but lovers of the genre can find a lot in his music. The same goes for those who love rock, blues, folk, I think. That's one of the great merits of Mark, and especially of 'solo' Mark, in my opinion.

Nice to have MK's work highlighted. I don't really hear Americana in BiA except maybe the Man's Too Strong.

yes. but talking about americana style in Mark's music, I would have chosen STP rather than Altamira...

Yep, I didn’t pick up on that. Although I’d question BIA’s inclusion based on that criteria.

I would add Why Worry to that

Thanks for the posting this list, it's an interesting and original way of looking at Mark's music.
I definitely understand why Making Movies and Love Over Gold weren't included on this list as I consider those two to belong firmly in the rock genre, more than any of his other releases. On the other hand, I think Sailing To Philadelphia is a big omission here - Baloney Again and Prairie Wedding in particular are among the songs I'd first think of if you asked me to give examples of Mark exploring the Americana sound.
-
That's right Sailing To Philadelphia should be.

Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting read although I can't agree with every album.
To me "On Every Street" sounds more like Americana than the "Brothers In Arms" album and instead of "Altamira" I would have picked "Wag The Dog".
Anyway, it's always great to read about Mark's music.
