Title: Good As Gold
Post by: Fletch on September 27, 2009, 11:48:25 AM
Really love the vibe of this song. Great tropical feel, and the guitars make me feel like i`m surrounded by Spanish waiters! ;D

When i`m driving at work i make my own CDs to listen too and this song, as well as Early Bird is straight onto the "great feel good Knopfler" tracks!!!

Yeah, it's brilliant. Easily my fave of the extra tracks. But again, I don't think it would have fitted in on the album.

From Guy's forum:

"Hi doc! Have you noticed that the guitar solo of the song Good as Gold has a wrong note? At 1min46sec there's a slide note that makes me nervous everytime I hear it! It doesn't fit the harmony of the song. Very unusual, if not unique - when it comes to Knopfler's tunes. Was it Mark or Richard? And why leave it that way?"

Guy responds:

"Yes, of course I know. Isn't it great!"

The solo fits perfectly to my ears - right into the tropical groove!

Listening to Knopflers stuff as a guitar player myself  is always a double edge sword.... the edge is.... giving up in the face of genius or practicing harder by being inspired by brilliance.

:) This one has been a real grower with me. Starting to love the edgy Guitar sound and I'm starting to pick up on the atmosphere of the track. Get out the pi
