No problem. they are all old, I just did a search on my podcast app for DS and DS members, turns out there's a lot out there!

Most of those interviews are in Spotify as well.

Search for ex band members gives you many surprises!

These interviews are years old. I'm shocked that I mentioned on another post a fairly straighforward point about Pick Withers not playing drums on all of Love Over Gold (as proven by a video podcast with Pick himself a few years ago) yet posters are absolutely going mad. I suppose it just proves that posters on this forum are mainly invested in Knopfler. No real knowledge about Knopfler's old band Dire Straits. I suppose his solo career has been longer than his tenure with Dire Straits but what a real shame. You people need to invest back to Knopfler's old band....

I don't agree with your assesment.

But the important thing is that you retrieved that information and got it to us.

We should be thankfull to you for that.

From a DS fan for nearly 40 years now.

Not really. DS was ages ago and Mark fortunately moved on. His solo stuff is just as good as the DS stuff anyway, in my view.

Actually when this forum was born, we were all really aware that DS were DEATH and MK solo was ALIVE so we focused all the forum and all the threads in MK as long as there was very very little to talk about DS, further than any ex member appearing here and there, that we always talked about.

Ironically, that one comment made me forget to listen to the interview. The rest of the comments made me like the forum even more  ;D  Thank you for the link Dusty. If he feels any bitterness it is difficult to spot, it seems like his "DS divorce" was not so bad and he got the careeer he wanted. He seems happy, and we know he visited John Illsleys book release  :)

Your statement is incorrect.

Pick did. play drums on all of Love Over Gold.

He just played along with a drum machine at one point.

As for DS, there are plenty of experts here but if we only spoke about DS we would have run out of stuff to talk about a long time ago.

Apologies for my rash comment above. Many of you seem like decent knowledgeable people.
As for Pick playing drums on Love Over Gold, it's not the view I got from his interview. He mentioned click tracks (i'm sure) and drum programming. But not sure how he'd play along the programming. Yes I can see him being frustrated with click tracks (like Terry Williams) but Pick mentioned drum machines. So are you saying he followed / replaved the drum machine and put his own take on that? I know many big-beat sort of industrial bands do that quite a lot. For example Filter where the drums are programmed and someone comes in to play them live for a more realistic sound.

Actually is the way MK records nowadays most of his tracks. He work with Guy doing demos in which Guy plays or program the basic lines for bass and drums and when the real musicians (Glenn and Ian) come they played over that basic lines.

Most of the tracks are recording live from just MK strumming the song with just his guitar but some of them already have those rythm sections already made, even there are some tracks where Guy is credited as the bass player because Glenn felt his lines were ok and it wasn't worth to re record over them.

YOu can hear Pick speak about it in this video from around 39 minutes.
