Title: Funny Story about MK/Sultans Pub Theory
Post by: dustyvalentino on October 23, 2023, 11:43:08 AM
Excerpt from a podcast I listen to with Danny Baker. Danny is a British broadcaster who used to write for the NME and came up in South London at the same time as DS. A funny little story about DS and he gives a theory about the Sultans pub...

I actually remember seeing this pub when I visited the DS plaque in June, it's very close.

I think David said it was a pub in Greenwich called The White Swan just around the corner a flat he was living at that time, before he moved to Deptford. I recall that information being in the Michael Oldfield book, also mine and DMG's  ;D

By the way, that pub in Greenwich doesn't exists anymore.

Yes, I read all about it in your book! Thought it was worth posting though as another theory, I guess we'll never be 100% certain. Very strange that nobody from the "real" Sultans of Swing has come forward though.

I thought Mark wrote Sultans in a pub in Ipswich, and I think I probably heard him saying that, on Sultans Of Swing compilation interview or something.

Anyway, it's crazy to think such major details are a mystery. You know where Paul McCartney wrote each song and the colour of the socks he wore, but nobody knows for certain where Sultans Of Swing pub was, who guitar George was, and so on. Unbelievable. I doubt there was even a band like this at all, as you can imagine whoever it was would've embraced the homage and tour with it. Maybe Mark was really drunk and was seeing things.
