Title: MK and BBC
Post by: peterromer on October 15, 2009, 01:23:36 PM
Hi,
Has MK with his large interest in cars and classic racing, ever been a guest in the BBC "Top Gear" show ??
A search in Google did not give much.
To me it sounds obvious that he at some point should have been there....  ;D
Would be fun to watch.

cheers peter

As a regular viewer to the fantastic Top Gear with Jezza, Hampster and Captain Slow - i can say that NO - Mk has never been on the show - he would be really good to be on i agree - my only concern would be that a lot of people wouldnt know who he was - sure - everyone knows Simon Cowshed - though saying that they did have Brian Johnson from AC DC - so who knows!!?? ??? ???

I asked Guy the other day if he or Mark had been the star in the ordinary car, and he said he hasn't been asked, but Mark may been he's not sure.

Same old story I would say, because MK doesn't shamelessly self promote like others he is not seen as "cool" or "interesting" enough by smarmy BBC types. :(

Well maybe not, I mean they have had Nick Mason on there a few times.

Im a big fan of Jezza but I cant see there ever being any desire for MK to be part of the show.  They stand at opposite ends of the political spectrum.  In one of Jeremy's early books he does reference Dire Straits when he compares them to a car.  Something like beautifully made but missing something.  It was probably a German car.

Pink Floyd are cool. DS are not. Don't ask me why, I don't know. This is in the UK, I don't know about other places.

You're right, once when they were doing the cool wall Hammond and Clarkson were arguing. Hammond said the car was uncool and was like driving around in Dire Straits. The short git!!!!

Who cares about being cool anyway; what's cool today is uncool tomorrow.

Have you noticed how much Hammond and Guy Fletcher look alike?

Hammond is cool for some reason. Possibly because of the car crash, but I guess before that too.

I don't give a fuck about what's cool.  :) I've said before, if MK got cool I would have to compete with knobs for tickets, so uncool suits me fine.

The answer is simple. To get on TV you have to have an agent continually plugging you and pestering executives. I am glad MK is not on tv for that very reason. And like Dusty says - the minute MK does something of note on tv is when we have to start queuing for tickets again. Not good.

I know this is slightly OT but I have seen this happen in the football/soccer world. I know of a very big celebrity ex-player who was a manager who, when a particular position became vacant (due to the previous post holder being fired) had his agent continually knocking on the Chairman's door (literally) until he had got him the job. Its not what you know......
