Title: Private dancer turns 40 (29th May)
Post by: stratmad on May 28, 2024, 11:40:07 AM
Tomorrow is the 40th anniversary of the Private Dancer album!
One of the greatest albums of all time, and the start of a stunning solo career for Tina Turner.

And MK wrote the title song, of course :-)

For me, it's not only one of the best songs ever, but one great example of MK the philanthropist -he's helped so many artists over the years, who were in really difficult situations: Clapton, Willy deVille, Bap Kennedy... and every time, they gave the world the most wonderful music in return!  :)

MK didn't do it out of "philantrophy". He did it because he had no better use for the song.

Probably, but he could have given it to Madonna or Cyndi Lauper  :lol
But he was no doubt aware of Tina's situation, as were Bowie and all the others who helped her make that debut album.

As far as I read, can't remember where, maybe the Michael Oldfield book? he didn't gave the song to Tina. Tina got to Damage Management office asking for Paul Brady songs, but Ed offered her Private Dancer as he hadn't any Brady song available for Tina.
