Which celebrities have you spotted at MK live shows?
In Aberdeen in 1996 Mariella Frostrup and Adam Faith came out of the stage door onto the band bus. Adam Faith was appearing in a show at the local theatre I think.
In Dublin in 2006 Jurassic park actor Sam Neill was walking in, I was quite drunk after a day on the Guinness and asked him for a photo. He grudgingly agreed.
In Newcastle in 2008 Steve Phillips was with us in the queue at the stage door to go in for the pre-show meet and greet.
What ya got?!
-
John Illsley, Brian Johnson, Kitty Aldridge and Issy during RAH 2019. They were outside and walking through the venue (in the circle, don't know how to describe)
Marco Caviglia, Rome 2015
-
Salman Rushdie at the MK/EH gig in June 2006 at Wembley Arena and Pete Townsend at the Hurlingham special.
-
Tom Jones, Bill Wyman and Brian Johnson
And also Phil Palmer, Hal Lindes, John Illsley and Ed Bicknell. I know I forget someone else...
-
Ben Knopfler at the Brighton gig in 2013.
-
Ed Bicknell at Town & Country, Leeds - Golden Heart 1996 concert. He signed my tour book.
Kitty Aldridge and Issy at Hay-on-Wye 2007. Kitty signed her book "Cryers Hill" for me.
Ben Knopfler at Brighton 2013.
Steve Phillips and family at David Knopfler gig in Otley Courthouse.

-
Guy Fletcher at the RAH in 2013 (I think), running up a flight of stairs from the arena area while I was heading down. He said hello to me!
-
I sat next to Isaac several times, if that counts. ;D

Whispering Bob Harris at Manchester, 2001.

Ouaw that's a lot of sightings! maybe I came across many celebrities unknowingly as I went to quite a few concerts myself but I wouldn't recognize any of these people I think
-
I forgot some that many of you mentioned...
His family, of course (Kitty, both their daughters and both their twins), also Guy's family (sons and wife), same with McCusker ex wife and their first baby.
Also William Topley and most of his band, that were also the promo band that MK used at the time.
Sam Neil too in Dublin 2006.
Joe Brown at one of the RAH gigs, in which he appeared as a guest on stage, surprisingly for me.
I'm sure I've seen more that now I can't remember.

*Guy fletcher at Hay on Wye - in the queue for the show and Guy came over, had a chat and he signed my Golden Heart Programme.
*John Illsley - JI was sat in 'Pret a Manger' in Trafalgar Square during the 2010 tour - felt rude to interrupt as he was scoffing a sarnie! He did look up at me as I had an MK T shirt on!
*Guy Fletcher & John Mccusker - at Chalke Valley History Festival they came over for a chat and signed my Tracker programme.
*Kitty & Issy - seen walking with MK around the Chalke Valley History festival site all wearing Wellington boots because of the mudfest!
*Robbie Mcintosh - met him after a local show and had quite a chat and he signed my DTRW Cd...
*MK himself at Bridport - spoken to, hand shake and three signatures obtained!
*Paul Crockford at the ODR Promo in London.

Apart from the ones already mentioned, I saw the comedian Bill Bailey at one of the Royal Albert Hall shows during either the Get Lucky or KTGC tour.

I didn’t realise that John and Heidi were no longer together. None of my business really but I did love her records and his playing on them. I also love his first wife’s music.

I remember someone telling that also Rowan Atkinson was seen at MK concerts.

Lonnie Donegan on stage at Ronnie Scott's London, 1998. Unforgettable!

Hardly surprising though, he’s a good guitar player himself. I’ve seen him live a couple of times, he’s great.

Chris Barber, BJ Cole and Chris White for me.

And Phil Cunningham as a guest in Glasgow.
I have something in my head about seeing Bernie Ecclestone at the RAH but not sure if I dreamt that :)

Forgot about that - I have my picture taken with him. It was the night he played on Wild Theme in 2010.

Wow, there is a LOT of celebrities that went to MK concert.
90% are from MK's family or musical releated.
Kim-Jon-Un went to a Clapton concert.
Nobody beats it.

Thank you, Dusty! Wonderful memories. And the sound is quite good for such an old audience recording.
-
great playing by Guy there, dayum. also, the way Brendan manages to sing from the top of his voice with his cigarette dangling in his mouth, impressive.
too bad they did NOT play Rock Island Line
also, the way Lonnie "caressed" Marks' cheek at the end, sweet.

Always wondered why Mark used the words "nobody loves like an Irishman" in the song Donegan's Gone when Lonnie was born in Glasgow and brought up in England. Then I see him here doing an Irish accent so I check his Wiki page and turns out I was right (he was brought up in Essex), however his Mother was Irish, but the song still doesn't make much sense.
Hard to believe he passed away only four years after that energetic performance.
-
Nobody Loves Like An Irish Man was the a-side of a 7" single from Lonnie Donegan And His Skiffle Group released in 1958. The b-side was The Grant Coulee Dam.
I guess Mark used it the same way as he did with Return To Sender or Heartbreak Hotel and Love Me Tender etc. in Calling Elvis, the complete lyrics are built from quotations of Lonnie's lyrics. But I guess you know that of course.

It wasn't a song I liked at the time so I didn't pay any attention to it. Frankly I don't know anything about his songs.
Thank you for educating me.

I was a huge fan of Lonnie Donegan in the '50s and had most of his EPs and singles. :)

I grew up knowing him as the King of skiffle music from an early age, before I could even tell you what that was! Not my generation I suppose.
-
I guess for Mark all these songs mark an important time of his youth, the first influental stuff. 1958 he was nine years old. I liked Donegan's Gone from the first listen and still do, one of the favourites for me on a favourite album. I especially love the drumming.

Funny. I didn't know Lonnie at all until I saw him at Ronnie Scott's in 1998. Much later I found out that some of his songs were my favourites when I was little. I remember that I kept singing "Does your chewing gum lose its flavour..." when I was maybe five, until it got on everybody's nerves. 🤣

the great Lonnie with the mighty Rory:

Not sure if he was an MK fan though (or a celebrity!)

If he's fan, the feeling may not be mutual. 🤣
