"This song is about........ four minutes long." :lol

Broken Bones was the worst opener ever. What possessed them? The crowd are in and all excited to see what we've got so we'll open with the slowest, dull song where we just strum our instruments and put them to sleep. Madness.

And in 2019 they almost did the same joke with Nobody Does That.

Goes to show how subjective all music is!
I’m not mad keen on it on the album but I think it’s a terrific opener and I genuinely nearly posted on this thread saying as much before the other comments.
Builds excitement, nice and lively, powerful drums. I’d really love to see a close up of how Richard does that solo. It just looks like he’s strumming chords for it

I think BB is a pretty good opener, but Mark doesn't sing it with the energy needed to do it justice. Imagine if he sung it the way he sang In the Gallery.

Border Reiver was the best opener for his solo tours. WAM and WII not bad either!

Agreed. I remember I loved BR when I first heard it released as a single. Such breath of fresh air after the very low-key KTGC. Unfortunately the rest of Get Lucky didn't match BR ... But BR is a really nice track. A Knopfler classic.

Mark has never sung with any energy since the BIA tour!

BR was great. I also liked WAM and DP. I never thought WII sounded or worked as well live as it did on the album.

Get Lucky would have been quite the album if every track was as quality as BR. I don’t dislike the album but BR is 100% the standout track.
WAM is always a good opener, esp since the folkies have joined but I did miss Mike’s whistle on the last tour. He played tenor guitar instead.
WII, I’ve just heard it too many times. It’s boring now.

WAM for me will definitely be 2002 MK and friends gigs.
And BR is my fave MK solo tour opener.

BB was not the most natural opener, but I came to like it a lot live. Maybe because I was excited that the concert was starting, and even Careless whisper would have been OK for me 🤣
I agree that WII was never better live than on the album. I hated the flute covering the guitar that has been put on it in 2010+. Surprisingly, my favourite live versions are the 2005 ones. Stripped-down, no violin, but energetic guitar.
I also agree that WAM was absolutely great as an opener, and that the 2002 uptempo ones were the best. I came to love 2019 versions too though, less energetic, but this brass section intro is soooo cool!
And yes, Border Reiver was the hell of an opener, and yes, not all songs are as great as it is on the Get Lucky album, nonetheless Piper to the end is a masterpiece (like WII, better on the album than any live version). I also came to like the melancholy of Before Gas and TV, and So Far from the Clyde...
Darling Pretty did nothing for me, no matter how much I tried.

On the Get Lucky chat, no one ever mentions Hard Shoulder but it's one of my favourites, MK does Jimmy Webb :)

I love hard shoulder, it has a beautiful melody.

I really liked that in the GL booklet Mark wrote and narrated about songs.
