Hi everyone. I sadly never got one of the knopfler guitars at christies last year, and there's one that someone is trying to sell. I just wondered from anyone that knows values of signed and owned guitars etc on what a good price is? A fair price? And what's too much? Obviously for this particular one of Marks, which I'm assuming maybe was one that sold at that Newcastle United auction last year? Any info, advice or help would be much appreciated I've added the photo and details.

In my opinion this is a random guitar signed by Mark for sale by The Teenage Trust Cancer but never "owned" by him
Note that I could be wrong.
You seem right about Newcastle United auction :
Memorabilia on display during a Teenage Cancer Trust charity auction attended by Dire Straits star Mark Knopfler, at St James' Park in Newcastle (https://www.alamy.com/memorabilia-on-display-during-a-teenage-cancer-trust-charity-auction-attended-by-dire-straits-star-mark-knopfler-at-st-james-park-in-newcastle-picture-date-friday-march-1-2024-image598303302.html)

Thanks for that. Yeah seems to be the guitar on the right. Were they owned by Mark? Or just signed for that auction? I've messaged the guy. I'm trying to work out what a fair price would be?

There is no fair price for that. This is collection and value can increase or decrease fast related the to popularity of Mark.
IMHO this guitar has no historical value other than being "a charity signed item by a celibrity".
The real deal were the most expensive ones sold by Christies.

So you doubt he actually owned this?

I think you can safely say whenever you see a signature on any guitar, it wasn't owned by Mark. Played on for a little bit, at most, but never truly owned it. Usually associated with auctions, fans seeking autographs and random guitar giveaways. I, for one, hate signatures on a guitar, to me, it actually makes it less desirable... And I know I'm not the only one.
In my opinion, this guitar shouldn't go far above the street price of an average Les Paul. Mark's signature is on a removable part anyway, the picture is not that amazing, to be honest, and it's a Les Paul with Grover tuners and domed knobs. At least the top is plain! So, if the seller is too demanding about it, I would give it a pass.

Well he's asking for 40k. Which seems ridiculous

Pickups and truss road cover have been changed.
It’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Not helpful, but the truth.

Damn, that's more than even 1/50 Aged & Signed MK signature Les Paul would sell for. He's out of his mind, that's for sure! It's worth 10 times less than that at least.
Like Sir Dusty said, it's sad but true.
