Uncut have published a Dire Straits 'Album by Album' article this month:

weird comment, considering the miserable times had by many...
still, nice to see the revival of DS interest.

As I've said before, I don't think John had a 'miserable time'. He was quite jolly most of the time. I didn't commune with him much but he was an easy going presence on the tour.
I'm sure he loved being next to Paul Franklin. Surprised I was the only other he picked out. Maybe appreciation with hindsight?

"Does it get any better than this?" -- Exactly my thought when I was at the Basel show in 1992.

"listening to him and play that pedal steel guitar was sheer heaven. Him and Mark trading off solos was just fabulous.
Sheer Heaven. John nailed it. That's exactly the right name for the wonderful collaboration between Paul and Mark.
It really doesn't get any better!

Both Paul and you were important musicians, Paul coming from Nashville to join a rock band, and you joining after being with Macca.
Also Palmer was joining after being with Clapton, but he only mentioned you and Paul hehe

This is the difference between a spontaneous answer to an interview and a thoughtful answer.

Uncut is the magazine I buy faithfully for nearly 30 years to keep up to date. I wonder if they will ever issue a special edition magazine for DS and MK. It is long overdue. Yet somehow I get the feeling that DS and MK are not their favourite artists and they deal with them the same way dusty feels about Phil. (well at least he used to) . Or is it a more general feeling in the UK?
