There are some songs that are perfect in the studio album and that even in the best live performances cannot be surpassed.
Other songs, even very beautiful, that in some live concerts are noticeably more beautiful.
In my opinion...
- Wild West End in SA,
- Soundbound again in Rainbow,
- Portobello Belle (both in Rainbow and in Alchemy),
- Once upon a time in Alchemy,
- R&J in Alchemy,
- Expresso love in SA,
- Two Young lovers in all the 3 live,
- Calling Elvis in OtN,
- When it comes to you in OtN,
- Walk of life (both in OtN and in SA),
- Going Home in the Alchemy version.

This is a really interesting list although what I would say is no live track comes close to the Making Movies tracks. Expresso Love will never sound better live (although the Knopfler version on Letterman in 85/86 with his ex session musician from that MM album Sid McGinnes, nearly worked perfectly.) That's how highly I regard the production on that album. Just about perfect, whereas the first two albums may have lacked ooomph and BIA was basically a mechanical pop record that sacrificed the splendid rock drummer at the time Terry Williams amongs others for a more polished in-time session musicians - Making Movies in my opinion sounds exceptional especially the drum sounds (Skateaway for example) and the blending of rhythm guitar and lead. Superb.

I didn't know that Portobello Belle had been played on OTN, how inattentive I am. :hmm

You're right, my mistake. Alchemy (box set) not OtN, I'll correct it right away.
