The podcast does not (oops! 2 TIMES!!! ) include the edited acoustic performance of R&J, so it is better to use iPlayer

The long version starts on 1:38

sorry didn't realise, this is the best interview i've heard for years. Simon Mayo is a real Dire straits nerd.
-
Thank you so much ustas! What a terrific interview! I loved Mark's acoustic "Get Lucky" and "R & J", but especially the nerdly discussion near the end. It sounds as though MK has a lot of new material and many more albums yet to come. Fantastic! :D
-
anyone upping it on spanish city???
-
On iPlayer it starts at about 1:24

Great interview! Wasn't Simon Mayo a host of a London showcase in 2007? I seem to recall he was quite 'nerdy' then too ;) e.g. insisted on Mark to play Eastbound Train.
-
Yep thats the same Mayo, been around on UK radio and TV for years.
-
One of the best (if not THE best) interviews i've ever heard with Mark.
I've always liked Simon Mayo with his relaxed radio friendy style, and he always seems to bring out the best in Mark.
Listening to that has made my day, especially the bit about SOS. ;D
Cheers BBB

Did Simon insisted to MK to play Eastbound train again? ;D

THANK YOU for sharing this interview, it was great to hear Mark.
It seems he felt comfortable there during the interview!

Great interview. It was fun listening. Not the same old stuff over and over again.

Finally got round to listening to this.
FANTASTIC!
As others have said, this was a great interview, brilliant that both Simon mayo and Mark Kermode are clearly huge fans of MK's work and were therefore going into extreme depths of "nerdyness" that usually only the likes of ourselves would stoop to. :)
Secondly, the performances. Wow. First ever all acoustic Get Lucky I think. Sounded great. Very interesting to hear MK playing a solo in a psuedo Chet Atkins style where McCusker normally plays. Never heard him do this before, on any track, ever.
R&J, again, have we ever had a COMPLETELY solo acoustic performance of this before?
Brilliant stuff. What a shame we didn't know about it before. I could have listened to it live on Friday. :-\

Yes, I also liked that fingerstyle solo on Get Lucky, Dusty! Very nicely played, I think MK is into a lot of this kind of playing nowadays.
It reminded me of the way he played Devil Baby in the AOL sessions performance, the same kind of fingerstyle solo in the place where it was Les Paul on the record.
edit: Here is Devil Baby I was talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VIdNGYhim8

Yeah, nice too, but still has GF as well. Really a treat to get MK completely solo. I remember being at Hay on Wye for the world premiere of Secondary Waltz (and sandwiched between Martina and Nelly, Get Lucky or what! ;) ) and it was a real privilege to see MK playing that completely solo.
Would love to see a full solo MK show one day, just MK and an acoustic (or two). :)
-
Yes, I remember "Secondary Waltz" at Hay, being really special! I was behind you, dusty! :) What a fantastic weekend that was! :D
-
What an awesome interview, I loved it.
This is what Mark Knopfler is all about and WAS all about to be honest!
Look back at some of the early stuff on youtube and Mark always performed some fingerpicking stuff like that. There was a black and white recording on youtube from about 1980/81? It was some french interview I think.
I just think that in the early days with the band thing it would have been completely out of place.
This is Mark at his most happiest I reckon and what a privilege to have such an enormous British Legend still around today!
-
love it too.

It's on the tracker now-but the title has the wrong date--because the uploader is an idiot. ;D

Thanks for uploading it. Better worse than never.
