Fascinating back story there. I recall seeing it on Sailing at the Prince's Trust concert 1986. Could explain why others were removed.
Quite funny that he gifted a friend a guitar, then promptly borrowed it for about 50 years! 😂

Great story indeed. Do we have a clue who the friend is? Steve Phillips?

Says they went to school together so I guess not.
Cool guitar. I have a reissue from 2004.

Eh… I don’t know what happened here… but it sounds like MK was ready to sell the guitar until the owner contacted Christies to get it stopped?

My understanding is when Mark and the staff were going through all the pieces he realised he had borrowed the guitar from his mate and gave it back to him.

Yes, listening again that’s what’s said, I take back my outrageous slur!

He start using that guitar late 70's so it's really an old friend, isn't he?
Great he gave him back.

His friend must be really happy, with Mark’s pedigree the guitar is gonna sell for a very high price

Sounds a right scrounger and tightwad tbh. Reminds me of Tam from Still Game!
Also of an old joke:
My neighbour came to my door and asked if he could use my lawnmower. I said absolutely - as long as you don't take it out of my lawn!

Ha, yes. I know that the royalties for the first DS album took a while to come through but you would think he could have bought his own 12 string! This would not have been an expensive guitar at the time.
