Title: Stereo systems ??
Post by: Fletch on April 06, 2010, 11:57:49 AM
Decided this year i would treat myself to a decent system to play my CDs, can anyone recommend any type of setup?
Price range will be under $3000 AU (so about 1500 pounds max)
I`m sick of the crappy cheap stuff these days, the quality seems to get poorer every year. I wish i had my Dads old Sharp hi-fi from the 70s, boy that thing sounded WARM & friendly!!!

So if anyone has a favourite type of Amp, CD player & speakers pls post some info, i will appreciate any input...  ???

When I bought my system of seperates the hi-fi shop were good enough to set them up in the shop for me in their sound room to let me listen to it.  Be sure to take in a copy of a MK CD though because it's always best to listen to the kind of music you like than the shop discs.  I would also suggest interconnect upgrades and good quality speakers with quality speaker cables.  I love my B&W speakers personally.  You might also want to check the amplifier for a phono stage if you intend on playing vinyl.

Best thing to do is pay a visit to a hifi shop and buy the system that sounds the best within your price range. Trust you ears!

my favourites (mainly because I know them well but I am sure there are many other brands just as good): Primare (http://www.primare.net), Acoustic Energy (www.acoustic-energy.co.uk), System Audio (http://www.system-audio.com/_en-GB), Copland (http://www.copland.dk/)
