No, it's not a joke.  A friend of mine called from London a while ago before the show.  He told me the same thing.  Apparently they gave out flyers about the official download.  He'll email me the website.

He's one LUCKY dude.  He got to see Mark twice in the US and he'll be seeing Mark again on Tuesday at RAH.

Well I guess someone from MK management or maybe Mark himself decided to check the fan forums, found about it and thought it would be a good idea, if so many fans want a live release then give it to them! There are similar threads at the official MK.com forum too!

Can't wait for it!

and he replied "well, it is a big supertanker that we need to turn, it does not go that fast....

Marky, as usual thanks for your wonderfully quick upload of the photos.  I wonder why Mark doesn't want to wear a different shirt ? I'm sort of getting tired of seeing the same shirt in every show.  I copied all the pictures from every source.  Now the pictures they all look the same.

Sorry, don't mean to complain.

Thanks a lot .

I was there last night and had a great time; I think his playing was better sitting down compared to when I was there in 2008 !

I do wish he'd shake up the setlist, though. A couple of times I felt as if I was back in 2008 again. WII into STP again ? RAJ into SOS agian ? And the last few songs were exactly the same (and in the same order) as in 2008 with the exception of PTTE instead of GH at the very end. Granted, there were two songs in the middle that were not there last time, but they were a pretty odd choice I thought. They always both sounded pedestrian to me.

Anyway, he once again showed that he's a master craftsman and is playing brilliantly (as is his band) - it's just a bit of a shame that he doesn't take more risks with his extensive back catalogue.

Can someone who was there last night let me know roughly what time Kate Walsh (support) starts and finishes...?

Thanks.

Kate Walsh
19:35 support act
20:05 interval
20:30 Mark Knopfler

I must admit I didn`t listen to her. That was because I was talking to Goldenheart96, Jerroen and Isaac. Was nice to meet all the great forumers,
Mr. Pee-break-Pottel himself, Best Brown Baggies with the shirt of the day (better than Guy`s), Ingridswing, Knopflerized, DS1985 and some others
which nicknames I can`t remember... Isaac is a real nice chap, within minutes who talk to him and have a real funny conversation going about MK stuff
and Biergarten and so on...  :)

Was nice to see you all!

All the best,

LE

Maybe he likes the shirt.  Did you ever consider that?

Johnny Cash wore a black shirt every show.  I am wondering if he was alive and you were a fan if you would be posting your "non complaint" complaint there too.

How about his shoes, are those good enough for you?

I tend to agree. I think a "gesture" towards us get-a-lifer fans could have been to play the old songs that GF admitted they rehearsed in 2008 - namely, TMSTS and SMU. These 2 would rock ! I paid next to no attention to TMSTS when BIA was released, but that was before I get a chance to see the Wembley'85 DVD. Awsome version with flute, I'm sure it would fit quite well. And SMU in 91/92 or in 2002 was really fast rocking. Maybe next time... Understand that they would not play TOL or OES, but these would be nice. And I'm tired of RAJ :p
Whay do you mean, 2 from STP that were not present last time ?? PW and.... ?

A couple of warnings for those attending later RAH shows. Firstly, if you've booked tickets through MK.com (I guess most of us have), IGNORE the request to pick them up at the box office. RAH completely mismanaged this last night, causing lengthy queues, and then telling everyone to go to Door 1 instead to collect MK.com booked tickets. They may learn their lesson and improve things from Monday onwards, but I strongly recommend you go straight to Door 1 for your tickets. While in whinge mode, having booked mine the day booking opened last summer, I was pretty disappointed to be in Row 18 with a pretty poor view - the rows aren't staggered. I think we all paid

One other minor negative. We've heard a lot about how wonderful the big screen is. Well, it only worked briefly (and didn't even get going until R&J), and with poor quality, not helped by being immediately behind the stage lights. I don't know whether they had technical problems last night, but I had expected much more of it.

I think we can all agree that MK wears quality shoes.

Frankly I couldn't give a Friar Tuck what kind of shirt he wears, I'm there to listen to an amazing band, not go to a fashion show.  ::)

Oh, and Coyote and Prairie Wedding are probably the tour highlights for me... Piper to the end as well.

Yep. Coyote is really great. Danny and Glen are a real engine here. And MK was really playing a great solo on it. I had a little moment of - no - not disappointment, is was a real phantastic show last night - but I bet about Monteleone (which I would never prefer) and Marbletown, and when he started
to tell the John Monteleone story - I thought - well, you can

Paul Crockford offered an explanation for last night's problems at the RAH. Nice from him. Thought I copy it here, it is from MKNews:

RAH TICKETING DELAY: A message from PCM.

Dear All,

Unfortunately there was a major problem last night at the first night in London and many of you had to queue for much longer than we would have liked.

This was caused by understaffing and lack of preparedness by the Albert Hall for which I can only apologise.

I wanted to write to everybody to say thanks for being so patient and to apologise for the ticketing pick up not being as efficient as it should have been. We have now taken additional steps to ensure that this won't happen again.

I look forward to seeing you all at an MK show in the future and thanks for your continued support.

All the best
Paul Crockford

and yes, i too get a bit sad when i hear the same setlist again, BUT,....and i mean BUT, that setlist is played with such power and creativity (he plays different somehow, every night, new licks and twiddly bits everywhere) that i do not mind. of course i have it easy, seeing all RAH shows, but still, i wanna convince people that the show IS brilliant

I have no official answer for the shirt business, but I do remembe reading during the last tour that he wears the same shirt (or a whole bunch of identical ones) precisely so that pictures/videos won't reveal which concert, and one cannot be told from the other.     I think that discussion was on our own forum.
But, as Matt has said--it's the music.   MK isn't exactly a fashion icon anyway.   :lol

Coyote pedestrian???????? Never in a million years.   It might have been the highlight of the show I attended--at least for me.    Partly because I love the song, partly because it was such a great surprise, and partly because the live performance was 'geniusotic"

About Mark's shirts... I'm asking myself the same thing since a long time, I think that MK for every tour has set up also his "dressing" room, I mean, if you remember well:

OES TOUR: cowboy shirts
GH TOUR: funny shirts and very "farmer" ones
STP TOUR: no shirts, but T-Shirts, mostly red ones
SL TOUR: mixed shirts, black, white
KTGC TOUR / GET LUCKY TOUR: blue shirts, with T-shirts underweared.
Probably he wants to let us remind the tour only looking him (his pics)

Was nice to meet so many fans before the show - Nelly, Marky, Pottel, Ingrid, BBB, Jeroen. On the way in to the RAH there were John McCusker and Mike McGoldrick leaning against a wall and rolling cigarettes, like naughty schoolboys. They even looked guilty as I jokingly chastised them. Inside, I could feel a really special night building and so it turned out. I thought this was the best of the shows that I have been to. You could really sense that the band had gone up a gear - I didn't think they had any more gears to go up!- and the crowd were very energetic. My friends and I were cheering and standing in our little box from start to finish. A brilliant night :D and a moderately severe hangover next day :'(.

hope to see the most of you in Amsterdam and I promise to do at least two concerts at RAH next time.
Have made some pictures too as I was sitting right in front of MK and will put them up asap.

Ps If anyone is interested in a recording from Kate Walsh I will put them online.

I second Pottel in this. Just came home from England, doing Bournemouth and first 2 RAH shows. Bournemouth was excellent but ...... RAH (same setlist) was awe, wow, amazing, unbelievable. These were maybe the best shows I've ever seen. Sound was superb, band was enjoying themselves, they really played every little part perfect.  :D

SPOILERS INSIDE!   LOTS OF!    WARNING!   SPOILERS!   AS I SAID ALREADY.....

I thought I could maybe try a review of one of my best musical experiences so far: The first night at the RAH 2010 was a dream, awesome and phantastic. It is only three days gone, but I am still in that traditional and mindblowing building in my thoughts. The possibility to download that show so fast is just another point in my dreamingly condition at the moment, so here it is:

It was a very nice and sunny, warm day in England, very much different to the rainy and cold weather in Germany where my plane took off at Bremen at 15:00, with a 45 min delay! London got me from the first minute I was in the Terravision-Bus from Stansted, I recognized at least three new Olympic Games Arenas being built. The traffic was awesome, and so my mood was: Looking forward to my 14th  MK show this night. At Victoria Station, I fed up with searching the right bus to the Hall pretty  fast, and decided to take a taxi. 10 pounds and 10 minutes later I was there: The famous Hall with some folks queueing here and there. It took me 30 seconds to find Miriam, who got my second ticket, at the stage door. The story about the mk.com ticket fuzz has already been told, so I skip that. Just let me mention that Paul Crockford is a much friendlier and decent person in reality than some early posts from forum posters might indicate. He asked us while queueing if everything was alright and was willing to share some information about the download thing. So kudos to him, he did his job very well in my opinion.

Meeting Isaac, Pottel, Nelly, Jeroen, BBB, DS1985 and some others was a pleasure. A very relaxed and joyful atmosphere in this little RAH cafe, where a lot of heavy priced alcohol was on stock it seemed. I wasn't too thirsty and just chatted with Jeroen, Miriam and Isaac, who got a little lesson about German geography (Bavaria is Germany, too!) We missed the opening act, which was not a too big problem for me. And then, at around 8:15, we entered the Hall! Wow, what a place. I was thinking about that famous Bob Dylan set in the

Thank you, LE!   I really enjoyed reading your detailed review.    My concerts have been over for some days now, but I still can't get them out of my mind and I really hope some of the ones that I attended will be available for download eventually.

Like you, I was very impressed with Mike McGoldrick and I will buy some of his albums.   He is often on "Transatlantic Sessions" with Phil Cunningham, so I hope to find some recordings of those programmes.   I think Mike could very well become another of my "heros"!   He did say "hello" to me from the stage after all!   ;D

LE,

thanks for taking the time to write your descriptive details of the show.  I always enjoy reliving MK experience vicariously from now until the end of the tour from other fans.  It helps temporarily energenize and excite me again.  Everyone seems to have wonderful tidbits of their experience to share.  Keeping up with MK on tour is almost like a full time job for me!  All the diaries, forums, pictures and recordings to collect.  What a fun full time job it is !!

Thanks again,

michael mcGoldrick is the freshest of those guys, real friendly and down to earth guy.
and, his solo on get lucky last night was brilliant, also, i noticed tonight (june 2nd.) hat he plays these cool little thingies during Speedway, that really fit the song....

Yummy cake!

I have just finished writing a detailed report of my trip to London. I thought the best way to share it would be a blog entry:

Hi Maggie, too bad indeed. I didn't know you were doing some of the RAH shows. If I had known, we could have had lunch together with Pottel on June 1  :(
Will you be at the Hamburg concert?

Yes it was definitively me.

Should I mention that I fully missed my first month of english course at school and obviously I never recovered it since.
I can read and write but my spelling is still so "frenchy"

Oh, I'm afraid we won't meet then on this tour, Maggie. I'm not sure about Oberhausen yet, my bank account doesn't really want me to go  :-\
But I will let you know.

Jbaent, it was great chatting with you! I was nervous as well - as I mentioned in my report, my spoken English has become a little rusty over the last three years. But it was a nice surprise meeting you!

And DS1984, don't worry. Personally, I think a French accent sounds more charming than a German one...  :)

Also, very interesting, if you look at about 6:29 you will see that MK has a little video screen showing the feed that is displayed on eth big screen!

Who knew MK was so vain? ;)

I think that could have to do with light reasons? He has to sit and hold the guitar in the right position, not because of the (fixed) camera, but also because of the perfect light. Also, on one song (Sultans?), Glen Worf was also on MK's camera pic, I think that was no coincidence but planned that way..

To be honest I thought the big video screen looked a bit crap, the "National" lighting display on the last tour was much better.

I would be amazed if MK had to think about the way he is holding his guitar for the camera instead of just concentrating on playing.  :-\

I will put some pictures on my site for you!

And I don't mind if someone wants to use this as coverart, maybe you can then refer to my site ?

The lady behind me didn't stop pushing , but i tried to stay calm... "Lonnnnnnng breatthhhhhh"

(At the end of the gig i was delighted to notice that the big stuff i felt was a bag.... Pheeeeewwww)

Hi all. I know i'm late on this, but i've been really busy, i just wanted to say that i attended the 1st 2 nights at the RAH.
Not only were the gigs superb, but everyone i spent time with in London made it an even richer experience.
It's so nice meeting with other forumers and seeing familiar faces. You know who you are :)
I'm so looking forward to Amsterdam now. ;D

Cheers   BBB

I wonder if that's the real reason why a lot of women and men incidently rushed to the stage after 'TR'!!! it surely can't be just for the guitar playing can it? heee heee :lol
