What a fantastic show... I'm speachless... :-)

Mark talked A LOT -which was really nice!

Security was ........ Nothing more to say about them.. :p
the whole consert was shown on a huge screen on the right side of the stage.. Beleve it was something like 7 profesional cameras filming it... It was awesome! :-D

TRD slowly but surely become over the tours the most prominent album in the setlist : 4 out of 15.
Indeed.
And I'm really glad.
I am sick and tired of comments about TRD saying "a joke", "mellow", "to go to sleep", etc..
STP used to be my favourite MK solo album. Because it was so much like DS' followup album to OES.
But now TRD has reached #1, yes, I mean number one, status to me. The album took its revenge: it was deprived from a tour in 2003 following Mark's motorbike accident. Then it was seen as the slow, intimate one. Ironically, it now provides the best guitar riff and solos to the concerts. Mark has turned the so-called b-side songs (Hill Farmer's blues, Marbletown, Coyote) into rocking songs. And WAM is... what to say... even better than WII. It definitely sounds better than WII live anyway. And their is so much soul in the album, it is a concept one about poor people... In comparison, its successor, Shangri-La, sounds too polished, has less personality. I'm glad that TRD, together with STP and GL, seems to be Mark's own favorite now.
Long live TRD ! :)

Oh my god. Now this is good. They most certainly did not put 7 cameras there for the sole pleasure of showing this on a wall during the concert right ?? So, the least we can expect is a live TV broadcast, which can be recorded with good new technology for a quality DVD, and at best, they are planning a DVD/Blu-Ray ??

And what it says relative to the cammeras?

I bet the cammeras were there because the promoters of the festival wanted that everyone enjoyed the show, nothing related to a dvd or something...

I once downloaded an audience DVD of Genesis or Phil Collins(Sorry Dusty) which shot directly at the big screen.  So if the TV station doesn't broadcast what they taped, this kind of audience screen shooting can survive us, too.  Please, anyone there shot the screen ????   :lol

The concert was filmed by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK). I guess they will broadcast it if they recieve a go from MK. They always film the whole festival and broadcast most of it afterwords.

"TRD" is now my most fav album. I totally agreed with your assessment regarding best guitar riff and solos.  Take HFB for example, what an incredible song Live with an extended guitar solo.  My all time  fav MK song.  To hear it Live is beyond words.  Like you, I used to like "STP" album.  I love silvertown blues a lot too.

Question by emiliano vallejo Argentina 14/Jun/2010
Hi guy , I read that yesterdays oslo festival was filmed, anyway I imagine that mark must give the "ok" so the concert to be transmitted or do something with, if not there are a few festivals more and maybe its going to be filmed to. does the possibility of one broadcast of one of the festivals shows? Sorry for my English, I had a lot of problems in translating this particular question, I hope you understand it..

Reply from Guy Fletcher
I'm not aware of that, I think they were filming all the bands but just for the big screens

# I was in MK-Dubai show on 03/March/2005, They were filming the show just for the big screens as well...

I don't know about Norway, but many of the festivals in the UK, Glastonbury, Isle of Wight, T in the Park etc are broadcast on tv, often in HD too! So maybe some of our Norwegian freinds can start hassling the local TV company to see if MK will be broadcast. :)

I would not put too many hope for this as Mark is under exclusive recording contract with Mercury.
The simfy recording are not sorted out cause of worlwide right yet, so releasing a DVD by an independant company would be very very surprising.

I bet that a DVD release of "Mark Knopfler - Live in Montreux" will be part of the "archive release" in 10 or 20 years.

But we can hope for a TV broadcast of the show if no contractual clause does not veto it.

I guess MK seems not to use finger of death during open air concerts, coz the red light doesn't disturb the band much.  Am I right?
Actually, this reminds me of something I forgot to mention in my Paris review, but which I find strange.
We got a french guy (not PC) making the announcement prior to the show. It was very mild. He vaguely mentionned to be mindful of others when using flash. Period. Not a word about filming being forbidden.
I saw some permanent red lights on the left side of the venue, and was really affraid that the finger of death would pop up. But nothing. After the "running of bulls" ((c) Isaac), plenty of people were filming. No reaction from Mark.
We haven't seen the finger of death in a while.
Does it mean it does not care anymore ??

Perhaps he doesn't like to use the "finger of death" in non-english speaking countries just in case those guilty parties never understood the message pre-concert?

This lineup for this festival was really fantastic. Imagine seeing Porcupine Tree (a personal favorite), Opeth, and Mastodon one day...Van Morison and Jackson Browne another, and then MK the next.

He says: "every knife needs a pair of scissors" then "nail file."
