Bob did BWMT very nicely in Glasgow.
WE think he needs MK but does he think the same ?
-
The photo makes it look like the Mark & Bob show is playing a liesure centre :D
-
I liked the acoustics at Bournemouth too and the Simfy recording had great sound. In fact it was one of the best shows imo and Speedway was amazing! :)

my bet for tonight..
-
I refuse to bet on next setlist. We can even not forecast what's already been played. :disbelief
-
My wife and I are really looking forward to tonights show and it was good to have met some of you from here last year when Mark played there all by himself!!! As I have said I will get a set list to the forum just as soon as I get back home from Mark's set which is 15 mins away!! so standby!!!
-
Please no Dylan set here, when it happens, we dont have Knopfler
-
Some could ask Guy privately.
-
Thank you knopflerfan, it's very kind of you. No pressure my friend, enjoy ;D
I'm just joking about the missing Cardiff setlist which seem to be a drama :lol
Day off Wednesday + no info Thursday ... ok it is a drama :P
Maybe one day we'll know what happened in Cardiff :P
Sometimes people release information long time after. My style.
I was in Glasgow last week-end and still have not found time to review nor to upload my recording. I'm still fighting to transfer it to my computer. :-[
I'm so busy (or lazy, depends) I've even not downloaded yet the 3 audio recordings. :disbelief
I wish you and your wife a wonderful evening. Same wishes to Rolleyway Man, soaring and all the lucky people attending Bournemouth show tonight.
You don't know yet how great it is ;)

Hi Knopflerfan and Rolleyway Man! I hope you both have a fantastic evening! :D
btw Rolleyway Man (Mike Child) - of course, I remember you from Bournemouth last year - also Knopflerfan! Maybe we'll meet again somewhere on the next tour! :)

No Haul Away tonight? I'd rather have Haul Away than Bonaparte! :-\
-
Anyway, I hope Banjo99uk enjoyed the show and wasn't distracted from the experience because of all that massive text messaging? ;)
LE
-
Don't care what the setlist was, MK is on absolutely TOP form. His voice was faultless, his guitar playing as good as it's ever been. And the band...WHAT a band. Very impressed with Ian Thomas. They all played their hearts out. In rather a good mood after that. Best MK gig I've seen, shame it wasn't longer.
-
Thanks Banjo99uk! I hope you all enjoyed the show! :)
-
Pottel, dont worry they are in safe mode but MK is in excellent form. The songs sounded so much better than The Get Lucky tour. I also am liking Ian Thomas. Think he adds alot personally. The place was packed and no idiots moaning about a lack of Dylan. He told a brief story about him sleeping rough behind some toilets in Bournemouth. I stood in the bar next to Paul
Crockford and Topley. Great night so far.
-
out of the bar already? you ill?
going to enjoy the dylan show?
-
Cool how these posts of our concert goers are very similar... Now I am looking toward my show much more... :P

Good to see A Night In Summer back in again.

. He told a brief story about him sleeping rough behind some toilets in Bournemouth.
What! MK told a story about Dylan sleeping rough? ;D

people, how about this, posted by a fan on the ER forum about twenty minutes before bob started:
A few of us bumped into Bob on Bournemouth Pier. He was buying an ice cream. He chatted for a bit and said he was getting bored with same old set opener. We suggested My Back Pages and he agreed. He called Tony on his mobile and told him to get the band to rehearse the song as that nights opener. He then shook hands, signed a few autographs and stolled off to buy a portion of chips. Surreal day all round. Roll on 9PM to see the evidence.
and guess what the first song was tonight...already wrote to Guy to complain about the way Bad old Mark treats his real fans (and yes, i am being a bit serious here as well...fuck man, play some other songs for a chage, you can do it blindfold...)
-

Made up probably. I think you will get a very nice answer from Guy about this. If you really expect Mark to change his set list every night only because Bob does, you are probably too confident... You don't really expect him to do that, do you?
LE
-
yes i do expect a bit more variety, then just swapping one or two songs (same ones) every other night...
-
kay, was too quick, bob is not onstage yet, or so it seems...
-
Yeah of course, I know it is frustrating, but being a MK fan means you have to cope with it... Last year all started very well with the first US gigs, he had some unusual variation in his set of course, but this time it seems, the set is set in stone... uhm...

I never quite understood why an artist would choose to play the same songs every night when the have a large number of good songs in their arsenal. I would think it could get boring for them as musicians.
-
Mark started promptly at 19:30hrs to which he came to the stage complete with his Blue Gibson...
And here is what followed....
* Why aye man (Blue Gibson)
* Cleaning my gun
*Sailing to Philadelphia (MK Strat - hooray!)
*Hill Farmers Blues
*Privateering (My fave of the eve if I have to have one!)
*Song for Sonny Liston
*Done with Bonaparte
*A night in Summer long ago (National)
*Marbletown
*Brothers in Arms
*So far away
A truly wonderous 73 mins spent in the company of MK and was worth the money to us!! By the way the T-Shirts are great and I bought one of each design. I will try and post a couple of piccies to show you all. They both have the tour dates on the reverse which is a nice touch....
-
Thanks all for your reports and set list. Hope you had a great night!! :)

i think it is his perfectionism obstructing him, also, he does not get it, that we, the freak fans ,go to multiple shows, and hence would love to see variety.

shite:
1 Leopard Skin Pill-Box Hat
2 This Wheel's On Fire (Bob center stage)
3 I'll Be Your Baby Tonight (Bob on guitar)
still a nice start though...

thnx knopflerfan, wish i could've been there with ya, one row in front, like last year :-)

How does WAM sound? Is the riff accompanied by Guy's keys or does it sound more like from 05/08 tours?
-
No ice cream then for poor old Bob? ;D
Or maybe rehearsals for My Back Pages didn't run smoothly...
LE
-
I don't care if Dylan plays umpteen different songs every night. It really doesn't matter, because when I heard him in Manchester, everything sounded exactly the same! It could have been the same song all evening for all I know! Same key, same tempo, ..... ::) I'd much rather hear MK playing his setlist any day! :)

omg, i just skipped a heartbeat!! man banjo, tell us all about it!!!!!!!!!

Mark plays for different people night after night and we are not expected to attend more than one gig a tour.
So, little setlist change is only Mark buissness not ours.
Moreover Mark is Mark and every long time fan here knows what to expect from him.
Sure he still can surprise us with an unexpected Baloney Again for example although I have serious doubt that TOL or Silvertown can be performed at least once on this tour..or even on a subsequent one.
Privateering being the only "new" one performed tonight, is Mark already fed up with the others two?
-
I'd sure be feeling stupid right now if I left after MK's set :lol
(for F''ks sake quit telling me someone else posted!!!!)

till now both taper types have taped both artists, nothing to complain about in that direction
-
Maybe tapers - fans of Paul Simon, hating both, record them together to prove something. :lol But it was a long time coming, I wonder if this signifies something more important. Maybe next time BD bored to death from his own band will replace them with MK's band, just to see how it goes.

blind willie, without???
how ridiculous was that??

I guess this was an unplanned thing, initiated by Mark... Just rush up the stage and see what Bob is doing with it... Maybe we will see some more interaction in the next weeks... and maybe Bob will reocognize that maybe he should be the one to invite someone... but I know Bob is Bob... (yuk)
LE
-
never ever was this not planned...
-
If only for one or two songs, it's still really cool to have them share the stage. I sure hope Mark got to play some mean licks on Beyond Here Lies Nothing, it's a wonderful blues tune from one of Bob's latest albums.

Don't think so LE, it is not the way things work in a concert. BD and the other musicians had to know and rehearse, even if they intend to play awful. ;) They play intentionally awful but they have some standards, they can't allow spontaneity. :lol
blind willie, without???

Two times general Pottel, I think that was teasing MK, for bothering him (too early?) ;)
By the way anybody checked if there is a fan list of favourite songs requested to be played in every town? ;D

Why should Paul Simon fans NOT record Bob? They did in fact to so back in 1999 when they both toured together. I still have a dozen bootlegs of that tour :)

Yes but WHAT guitar did Mark play with Bob, we must know! :D
-
No encore break. No MK on Tangled.
-
Nice to see at last but pity for those of us that attended an earlier show. :(
-
I should assume that I don't like Bob live.
A clue is that the announce that Bab shared the stage with Mark still give me not appetite to attend Bob set. I mean even if Mark would play the whole set. I think I am over, I would have done it when TP&H did it but not now.
I am still undecided but Sunday evening I may switch after MK set to a have a good meal in a restaurant in Lille instead staying because there is a true legend on stage, I paid expensive tix to be there but I actually don't enjoy it.
(I would have prefered some good time at the Carlton but too bad they got busted a week too early ::) )
-
Nice to see at last but pity for those of us that attended an earlier show. :(
We've had Corned Beef City and some of us Haul away ...
I'm glad that surprise happened in Bournemouth. ;D
I was so sorry for them when Marbletown was not played last year. :-[
-
No encore break. No MK on Tangled.
But what was he doing up there, during tangled, then? And pity MK didn't play on Watchtower. It would be one of my dreams come true. (Well actually the dream would be me playing with MK and BD and Neil Young and a dozen more musicians I admire)

Yes but WHAT guitar did Mark play with Bob, we must know! :D
It was the '58 Les Paul. Great to see the two of them on stage and obviously very lucky that it happened in Bournemouth!
We decided to leave however after what I think was Ballad of a Thin Man. It was actually one of Bob's better performances tonight, but his sound technicians need to learn how to use the master volume fader. It would have been a far more enjoyable show tonight had it not been so unnecessarily loud! Unfortunately, as well as Mark played on Betond Here Lies Nothing, it was difficult to make him out because of this. MK's sound for his own show though was as good as I've heard it. He and the band were brilliant tonight and I think the audience were more appreciative for him than for Bob.
-
Since the beginning of the common tour, some 70 people joined AMIT. I guess some of them (most of them?) are actually BD fans, like Arabia. Why don't you give us your opinion, about MK and BD tour. It would be nice to read something from another fan, a bit of insight, to help some of us understand Bob's art, the way he offers it. No pan intended.
-
I'm confused. What was MK doing during Tangled up in Blue? ???
-
Pretty sure he only played on Beyond Here Lies Nothin'. To be honest I didn't notice him at first as his '58 Les Paul was difficult to hear in amongst such a noisy mix but I suddenly noticed a familiar guitar tone in the background, looked up and thought "who's that playing Mark's Les Paul? Oh, it is Mark!". He seemed to have fun playing as part of Bob's band but I can't say I noticed any eye contact between the two! Still, as Guy says, Bob is Bob. Glad to hear that Bob did mention Mark after I had left.
-
So it finally happened! :)

That's funny!!

I bet Isaac missed it, too! Will be interesting to read his blog this time.

Fifth column...
Honestly, I think most of them were just curious, Arabia has turned out to be one of the few regular posters... And he seems to appreciate what MK is doing, too?

I'm fully on board as a Knopfler fan, listening to Sonny from 2005 Minneapolis boot as I drink my tea and write now. :)
I can't wait to see Mark in London on the final night of the tour, really like what I've heard from him on the recordings from this tour, but do wish he would change the setlists a bit more for my selfish listening pleasure!
(PS: sometimes the Bob bashing by a few is hard to swallow here, but I have nothing but positive thoughts for Mark)
-
Hi arabia! I know that I have been a bit hard on ol' Bob myself, since seeing him live last week. I have lots of his albums from the early days until the present and I love them, but seeing him live was something completely different. As many people have said, his band was extremely accomplished, there is no denying, but the volume was just too loud for my ears and, of course, there was the problem I had with Bob's voice and his lack of communication with the audience. Anyway, I think I had better stick to listening to his albums in future!
I hope you enjoy your Hammersmith concert and maybe by then Bob and Mark will be playing a bit more music together! :)
PS One of the songs that stayed in my mind from Manchester was Forgetful Heart - that one sounded very nice. :)
-
see my earlier entry..
beyond here lies nothing (the song that guy did not "recognise") and tangled up in blue
Pottel - the song Guy didn't recognise was "Beyond the Horizon" - he thought it was "Red Sails in the Sunset" ;D
-
From Richard Bennett:
Tonight's exception was instead of changing after our show and getting on the bus, Mark played a tune with Bob on his part of the show, a brilliant rendition of Beyond This There Is Nothing. A massive response at the end of it and then we got on the band bus bound for London where we'll spend the night and have the following day off.
-
I bet Isaac missed it, too! Will be interesting to read his blog this time.
LE
Isaac left before Bob's concert....a chance you take when you leave early, I guess.

Slight error. it was actually the '59 Les Paul according to Guy
;D ;D
Not long after we arrived at the venue, Pete came into the dressing room with a message from Bob inviting Mark to join him onstage tonight for one of the songs. Without hesitation, Mark agreed and moves were afoot immediately to get an amp up on stage so Mark could run through the song with Bob's band. Within minutes, Glenn Saggers had rustled together the necessary equipment and Mark and Bob's band went through the changes of 'Beyond here lies nothing'.
We took to the stage to a packed Bournemouth arena and the audience seemed just as excited to hear us as they did in Cardiff. Another great show, great sound, great energy onstage etc. etc. Bob and his band took to the stage at 9:15 and most of our band stood off stage left behind Bob's monitor engineer to watch the show. Mark came on after four numbers and they ran the tune. Armed with the '59 Les Paul, Mark played a blinder.I must say Bob was really on form tonight and singing and playing with great energy...and..he looked absolutely fabulous. The girls were taken with what appeared to be spats on his feet. A great night topped off perfectly by a gentle drive home for the day off tomorrow.
-
I can only laugh at those petulant enough to leave after Marks set :lol
I would have loved to have seen them both on stage together.
I think i'll be taking a small break from a mark in time and expecting rain though. The total lack of respect shown for Knopfler by some dylan fans and for Dylan by some Knopfler fans is giving me the shits.

According to Guy, this is how the "guest appearence" happened:
Not long after we arrived at the venue, Pete came into the dressing room with a message from Bob inviting Mark to join him onstage tonight for one of the songs. Without hesitation, Mark agreed and moves were afoot immediately to get an amp up on stage so Mark could run through the song with Bob's band. So, Bob Dylan didnt have to say any single word to MK in all the process... Well done Bob, very humble from you. At least he invited him to join them at stage in the end.
-
Well it was a fantastic gig. MK was having a great time and his singing and playing better than the last 2 tours. I had no idea what to expect from Dylan especially with all the stuff about him being past it, but I must admit he was great and does have a huge stage presence. It also helps that he has a top band. So if this is your first Dylan experience I can say don't be scared he really does bang out some catchy rock and roll. Looking forward to Hammersmith even more now.

I hope you enjoy your Hammersmith concert and maybe by then Bob and Mark will be playing a bit more music together! :)
PS One of the songs that stayed in my mind from Manchester was Forgetful Heart - that one sounded very nice. :)
forgetfull heart, almost forgot about that beauty, great song. did you enjoy THC val??
Hi Pottel! Yes, as I said in my Manchester review, I really enjoyed "Times Have Changed", "Simple Twist of Fate", but I remember that "Forgetful Heart" was good too!

I guess our good Pottel is digging his Dylan contacts to find this recording ;D

I can only laugh at those petulant enough to leave after Marks set :lol
I would have loved to have seen them both on stage together.
I think i'll be taking a small break from a mark in time and expecting rain though. The total lack of respect shown for Knopfler by some dylan fans and for Dylan by some Knopfler fans is giving me the shits.
I'm holding out.
even though i think we should leave this us and them mentality behind us, i also think a little healthy discussions (clear difference from simple bashing/dissing for no reason) has never hurt anyone...

I dont think there is an us and them mentality, just an "the way we think how the things are and how should be considering what we know about MK and his previous tours" and "the way things are happening with Bob Dylan and that we are not used to that things at all". Obviously Dylan fans are used to that, but we don

I was reading "The Rocker" a biography of Phil Lynnott, and I read somewhere that in late December 1979 he jammed with DS at the Rainbow(?). Have you heard anything about that, or any recordings? Mostly curious, since in other parts of the book Phil was quoted saying the Phonogram didn't pay too much attention on Thin Lizzy due to the enormous promotion of Dire straits, but from what I know, Dire straits were rather a quite storm-act, selling on the force of their music. But which ever was the case both songs that they recorded together were great, and the video for King's call, was a big laugh with MK's hair a bit raised to remind us of Elvis! ;D

Unfortunately I can't make any of the shows on the current tour but I have seen Bob lots of times so can offer an opinion.
For me Dylan is(not was) a great singer and without wanting to sound pretentious I regard his voice as another instrument in the band, so on the rave up rock and roll tunes he plays- eg Highway 61 Revisited, Thunder On The Mountain-it is all about the sound of the music, the way he belts out the lyrics against the pounding drums and guitars. It's certainly not a sound that will appeal to everyone but I love it and just don't think it would sound anything like as good if he had a more conventionally pretty voice or if his singing was more laid-back. Love or hate his voice I think everyone would agree that he doesn't hold back when he's singing!
That's just one part of his live shows though, he could not have written Not Dark Yet or Forgetful Heart as a young man and his voice now is just perfect for that material, I remember a show from a few years ago when he did Nettie Moore-for the length of the song the entire arena was silent, hanging on every word. There are not many people who can do that.
There's also his stage presence, despite not talking to the audience or allowing video screens to be used Bob is the most electrifying performer I've ever seen, it's impossible to explain but he such natural charisma.
Basically though it's all about his voice-for me the way he sings is the main reason why I love him so the opposite is bound to be true-people who hate his voice will never enjoy/appreciate the shows.
Bob is a one off, and one of the many things that makes him unique is the way he provokes so many extreme reactions, this is the man who fills large venues year after year, makes albums that go to number 1 both sides of the Atlantic but still p...es off so many people with his live shows. There really is no one like him.

dylan jokes. the man is funny...
Dylan Jokes:
I've always rememebered and quoted this line from a Dylan concert a long
time ago--it was in Tucson, & might have been Rolling Thunder. He introduced
the back-up singers as "My ex-wife, my next wife, my girlfriend, and my
fiancee." I'm trying to remember if there were even four different women, or
just three.
*******************************************************************
I saw Dylan at Western Connecticut State University in 1997, I believe.
When he introduced Bucky Baxter he said,
"When I first met Bucky, he didn't have a penny to his name. I told him to
get another name."
*******************************************************************
(this one is hliarious - Pottel)
February 13, 1999, in Normal, Illinois (Illinois State University campus),
From dono919:
"They said I'd never make it to Normal. (PAUSE) They were wrong."
*******************************************************************
the best joke i have heard dylan mumble at a concert was in new york city at
irvingplaza december 8th 1997, where the opening act was joan osborne who sang
the man in the long black coat, after singing her set she was at the bar
drinking, and it is a small place...maybe two thousand...dylan had just finished
his first seven, eight, songs and was introducing the band and thanking the
opening act...all of a sudden he says: "and i'd also like to thank joan osborne;
joan and i is gonna sing a song..." and joan in the back stands up to come to
the stage, when dylan says: "but not tonight."
*******************************************************************
June 22, 1999, Hollywood, CA
He apologized, saying that "I almost didn't make it tonight.
........ had a flat tire.

there was a fork in the road......."

June 27, 1999, Phoenix, AZ
"Thanks everybody, you're too kind...
You know, I was talking to Neil Young yesterday (audience cheers
at the mention of Young) and he said to me, he said 'Bob, you
just can't hear cool music on the radio anymore...' and I says
to Neil, I says 'sure you just... (a decent pause) you just need
to stick your radio in the refrigerator."

Great post, MarkB!!! :)
-
MarkB thank you for the long, from the heart, post. It is true what you say about Bob, I know since I have been listening to his music for over 20 years, but some times I feel like I can't understand his work. One more thing I would like an opinion, is about his songs that have strong references (similarities) with older songs, but still get a Dylan credit only. Other artists haven't been able to get away with it, with lot less (see My Sweet Lord by George Harrison). I mean even if it is a matter of courtesy (to know the original) shouldn't he mention the source?
Jbaent, thank you very much for the link-photo (s). All of them were great, and filled the picture gap in my mind! By the way I have been going through Thin Lizzy's recordings and I think that they have an uneven outing. Maybe it has something to do with the constant changes of the guitarists and the drugs. But for the nice 2-3 albums and 20 songs that I like, I believe that Phil deserves a place in rock history.
Pottel you made me laugh after a hard day working under heavy rain. I found some of them having the same line of humor with Woody Allen.
-
And I found from the faithful tracker a 1979-12-20&21 Rainbow theater concert!
By the way Pottel which tracker do you use to find BD, if any?

Thanks for your kind words.
Yes, I agree with you about some of the writing credits. For example When The Deal Goes Down is very similar melodically to Where The Blue Of The Night Meets The Gold Of The Day and the tune to Beyond The Horizon is almost identical to Red Sails In The Sunset. For Dylan to be credited as the sole writer on the album credits does not seem quite right to me. The songs he has based around blues/folk tunes are different imo because those melodies must have been used/adapted by hundreds of musicians over the years.
I don't know how copyright laws work regarding song credits but as a layman I'd say it is really pushing it for Bob to take sole writing credit for some(just a few of the hundreds he has written) songs.
-
MarkB, this is the most honest answer on this subject I have ever received from a Dylan fan. No need to say that I agree, it was obvious from my previous mail, I can only wonder why is he doing it. Surely not for the money, and I guess not out of disrespect for the original composers. He states all the time how he feels about the originals, and the two albums with the covers prove just that. But then again, it is weird why these songs (I have a few more in mind) went out without anybody noticing from his company, or complaining from other companies. Rolling stones gave K.D.Lang a writing credit for similarities with the song Constant craving (Anybody seen my baby) and even Radiohead did the same with Creep (Hollies the air that I breath), to name but a couple of recent examples of truly big bands, that didn't feel like pushing their luck. I read books about how these things work (Rockonomics etc) but still I don't get it.
Pottel thank you for the trackers I will check them out.
-
Pottel I also noticed that BD repeats some of his very funny stuff, on different occasions. So he probably stages the whole thing, rehears like he is doing with his songs. Maybe even hire somebody to write them for him. ;) And before you complain for disrespect, let me tell you that even if I am right I really think it is great of him, since it shows how much he cares for his audience. ;D
But really some very funny jokes. Thanks for the link.

Mark Knopfler joined Bob for Beyond Here Lies Nothin, which put an awful
lot of guitarists on stage, including Dylan. He did not comply with the
dress code, Dylan and his musicians wearing dark jackets and mostly with
hats (Bob in his white Ibson). Knopfler, in a white shirt, looked like he
was attending a rehearsal. He can of course play that guitar and he
brought a pleasing Dire Straits twang to the performance. Bob acknowledged
his contribution with a pointed finger, from in an open palm, towards
Mark.

I have little doubt that Dylan's Bournemouth show will have been recorded by someone. Very few Dylan shows fail to be recorded and even fewer UK ones. Some recordings are pretty good quality, too. I guess that we shall have to wait and see, though.
-
my guess is two recordings. at least.
-
Probably more than that, in the end. Since I haven't collected Dylan concert recordings for years (just picking up whatever comes around), I'm a bit out of the loop but I will, so to speak, keep my ear to the ground.

Hi Val,
Funny enough we had a packed weekend starting with Mk on the Friday then, watching Profesional Rugby in Wales on Saturday then seeing Aled Jones last night, but we said last night during the Aled concert to ourselves that we were both blown away by Mark's show and the sound is most certainly fresher than ever!!
Being seated in the 'god's we were able to note that even the 'Dylan' part of the audience couldn't help but join in by dancing along to what was one hell of a concert and we can't wait until the full tour with MK next year??!!!
We both hope Mark comes to Bournemouth again next year (He has only played Bournemouth 3 times now!) and we will also do the full number of nights in the Albert hall.
Catch up soon

VERY standard solo. Any half-decent blues player down on your local pub could play that. Of course, the song sounding like a mix of Black Magic Woman and Think I Love You Too Much doesn't really give room for much creativity, but I was disappointed.

Yeah maybe, but still it's quite a long time since we heard Mark play that way, it's a matter of taste anyway! And I like Dylan on this one as well!

Hi, Jackal,
with the story we know about how this duet came to be I think it might be not so surprising that MK doesn't deliver a very great worked-out detailed guitar solo? I am not playing myself and have no idea, but I try to imagine: Just got the call, I'd like you to play on that and that song, just do the solo...
Even a guitarman like MK maybe needs time to think about it? Or not? Please tell, I know you play guitar yourself. Is it possible to put out a killer guitar solo anytime a day?
LE
-
You've got good and bad days, for sure, but a player of Mark's caliber should be able to pull out something else than run-of-the-mill pentatonic licks (sorry for the jargon there). Especially now when he's on much better form than in a long time. The solos during his own set are so much better this time. So, Dylan's song being pretty straight forward (doesn't require hours of rehearsal), I definitely think Mark could have made more of it.
Having said that - it's still fantastic that he got to play with Dylan again. If he gets asked again, I hope it will be for a song where Mark gets to play more lyrically, preferably with a clean Strat sound. That's where he really shines, in my opinion. With the distorted Les Paul sound he gets a bit heavy handed.

I put it on YT for the heck of it:

Hey Jackal, I believe that the music pattern of "Beyond here lies nothin'" sounds more like "Further on up the road" than the songs you mention. What do you think?

Finally, a decent recording! Bob's voice is horrible (he should sing in some death metal band, anybody here remember Sepultura?), but MK does enhance the song really really well. Wish there was more collaboration! And yes, Mark's licks sound very much like "I Think I Love You Too Much".

Wow, if only he had played with Bob in Lille! Mark's a wonderful blues guitarist! It reminds me Mark's solo on Sonny Landreth song "Blue Tarp Blues"

BEYOND HERE LIES NOTHING
Beyond Here Lies Nothin'
I love you pretty baby
You're the only love I've ever known
Just as long as you stay with me
The whole world is my throne
Beyond here lies nothin'
Nothin' we can call our own
I'm movin' after midnight
Down boulevards of broken cars
Don't know what to do without it
Without this love that we call ours
Beyond here lies nothin'
Nothin' but the moon and stars
Down every street there's a window
And every window made of glass
We'll keep on lovin' pretty baby
For as long as love will last
Beyond here lies nothin'
But the mountains of the past
My ship is in the harbor
And the sails are spread
Listen to me pretty baby
Lay your hand upon my head
Beyond here lies nothin'
Nothin' done and nothin' said

Hey Jackal, I believe that the music pattern of "Beyond here lies nothin'" sounds more like "Further on up the road" than the songs you mention. What do you think?
Haven't done an in-depth side-by-side comparison of the two, so can't really point out exactly where they differ, but my first thought is that Further On Up The Road has a shuffle/boogie kind of beat whereas Beyond Here Lies Nothin has a more straight beat. Beyond Here Lies Nothin has also definitely a more minor-key feel to it. So, no, I don't really see the similarities, except that they both are blues songs.

Thanks Jackal for posting the song on YouTube.

Hey Jackal, is this you in the profile photo? Hair stretching more like... ;D
-
I've said it before, but I'll gladly repeat myself. Those NHB concerts are in my opinion settings where Mark really shines. He's more relaxed as he doesn't have to be the main attraction and carry the show alone so to speak. The interaction and banter on stage are of course too just excellent, I think mainly because the guys are equal. When Mark is doing solo shows, he can joke with the guys, but they can't joke back. I guess they could, but it be awkward. But the song selection too during those shows was also marvelous.

Yes they were terrific. I wish they'd do some more, but according to Guy, those days are over! A shame, really! ::)

I seriously cannot believe that in 1month & two days time it will have been 10 years since I attended this 'strange' concert at the nearby BIC....
Strange is the right word because after listening to a 'storming' first half set from MK (MK was in good, amazing form for this concert)
I was to witness people walking out on Bob Dylan mid performance and not returning.....

Same happened to me in Manchester! By the middle of Bob's performance we were sat amongst lots of empty seats!

Unfortunatley, we left as soon as Mister Bob started shouting/Screeching or whatever you want to call it and left! Missing MK's performance with him..... >:(
