just FYI, they combined two songs into one song on the stick, so the stick has 15 songs instead of 16. just to let everyone know for future concerts.

 :disbelief :disbelief :disbelief :disbelief

I have just checked the FAQ page on mk-live.com, and what do I see?

When will I receive my USB stick(s)?
Your order will be dispatched two days after the respective concert at the latest. Note: orders that include USB sticks from more than one concert will be dispatched after the last of these concerts.

Is that stupid or what?
And hey, postage wasn't reduced by ordering more than one stick!
So I can wait until the end of the tour to get Bucharest?
WTF

Oh and wait - that means I will ALSO get a tremendous bill by the customs when all the sticks arrive together  :thumbsdown :disbelief :thumbsdown :disbelief :thumbsdown :smack

Well, I guess so... My fault. I als was wrong about the postage. Sorry.
Too bad I ordered 2 Sticks from early in the tour and 2 from almost the end at once...

However - what really sucks:
I had to pay German VAT (19%).
And when I will finally get them I will be ADDITIONALLY charged the VAT of my country, based on the full price including German VAT including postage PLUS 25

This may come across as me being a giant leecher and all, which is only partly true by the way :P , but
are the contents of these sticks to be shared amongst fans, somewhere deep underground?
I for one am willing to accidentally leak the contents of the Antwerp and Luxembourg gig somewhere (not publicly) on the net, for those interested.
Just wondering.

I am not sure what others are thinking and I am not an editor or even close to that. I think that it is the thing that we are not going to speak or arrange here, because sticks are official material and not bootlegs. However, maybe it is everyone
Title: Re: the sticks
Post by: ingridswing on May 03, 2013, 09:54:39 AM
Silvertown is right. Already in another thread I mentioned it. It's nice you want to share but .....

What you do underground, amongst friends and all is your own business, but keep  :-X

We are not going to share them here, no links allowed, no arrangements here. It is official and you know we only share bootlegs.

The spanish tracker doesn't allow the content of the sticks nor bootlegs from this tour either, because there's this official recording.
I hope you all understand. We don't want to have trouble with MK, band and/or management.

Last night I tried to order another one (without completing), and guess what?
The system told me "based on your shipping address the taxes will be omitted" !

Looks like ths sticks are taking very long to arrive, at least to Spain. Did any you who have ordered any stick after Bucharest, have receive them?

A friend of mine ordered Istambul and it didnt arrive yet. They say they ship the day after the concert, and thats 8 days ago, normally small packages takes less than a week to arrive.

Just to compare, I know spanish postal service its not the best, and since many companies are taking profit of the new laws to fire their employees, probably they dont have people enough to do the work properly...

I don't know since I haven't bought any but that's what other members in this thread said. They're quite expensive to be honest. In 2010 I bought two Simfy recordings offered as a download since they were cheaper than this year's and I still listen to them. Now, that the tour is better than ever, it's a shame that they aren't being offered at a more reasonable price and format.

the stick should contain the concert (mp3) but if, by accident, they send you a blank stick, upon request they will provide a link to download the concert.
The problem seems to be the percentage of empty stick sent  :)

Surely they ask you to justify that you actually bought the stick, like your order confirmation email ? Would be too easy oterwise...."I bought it but it is empty"... -"No prob, here is a download link"... :D
And do they keep track of whether your stick was delivered or not ? if not, it may be possible to use this email procedure to get the music sooner than the Postal services can deliver the stick ? :D

I think it's ludicrous!  The very least they can do is give us the music we want because at the end of the day, that's what we're paying for - the fancy packaging is just a compulsory extra and not what we asked for.

It would be much more simple, quicker and a lot cheaper if we could just download the concerts like last time - we know it's possible.   I'm really not that interested in the guitar stick anyway.   I'm sure they would sell a lot more if they were downloadable.   ;)   Seems like another mess!   ::)

New development regarding the sticks. The first show at the RAH is now up for preorder. That's good news since otherwise the shows with Ruth and Nigel together in one show would not be captured on soundboard.

As I hadn't received anything since I my order on April 30th I sent them an email 3 days ago. I suspected what the problem was (no order number with my advanced bank transfer payment) and indeed that was the problem. Today I received an email back from them with an download link to the Sofia Concert and the message that the USB stick is on it's way to me as well. Great service I'd say !!

-- -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Listening to the April 29th Sofia concert right now (What It Is) I find the soundquality actually better than the simfy recordings and besides that the audience seems also more noticable than is usually the case with soundboards and , for me, this makes these recordings more enjoyable than the usual soundboards. Marks playing on What It Is (slight mistake is that the song is started twice on the recording) sounds really great and I really can't wait till June 7th in Zwolle  8)

Hello!

I am looking for some advice re The Sticks!

What do you guys think would be the best Stick to buy when you consider setlist and performance so far?

I have ordered the Glasgow one because i was at the show and had to have it, but i would like another one from one of the past shows.

Is there any that stand out so far?

Is it possible to get the songs you want on a stick or are they just selling complete concerts?
I'd like to create my own song list.

If not, what was the concert where the most of the following tracks were played: Diamond, Tupelo and 5:15 am, Yon two crows ?

i wonder why it is that Mark goes "and I wonder" after he introduced Jim Cox on the antwerp show, it happens around 1:12 into Paraguay (the i wonder)
i hear no Del Shannnon rif in Jim's playing before that.
Also funny how he goes "Michaeeeeeeeeeelll" as he would shout "paraguayyyyyy" a few seconds before he introduces McGoldrick.
these sticks are really an enjoyable listen.
and yes, i though found the piano playing to be rather "thin" at times. not entirely unhearable, but soft..

I sent them an email as well and asked for a download option. Not for the reason of the stick being empty, but because they don't even ship to my country in the first place. I attended two shows this tour and I won't be able to buy the recordings. They are already emailing people their download links, why not just offer to sell the recordings the same way?

Well, my case is a bit different. I don't wish to get into politics here but it is a political problem why my country ( Kosovo) isn't listed when trying to order the sticks, it's pretty much the same everywhere online.

During 2010, I bought the recordings as downloads and everything went great. They were more reasonably priced too.

I'm having a problem ordering from the UK.  I've tried logging in on MarkKnopfler-Live.com but I get an error message saying my account is deactivated, ( although my log-in/password on the main MK.com site is still working). I've tried buying without registering, but when I reach the "pay" button after being transferred to the saferpay site I get a message that the "currency or card is not supported" - but I have not been given any option to enter my credit card details -  Has anyone else had this problem, and if not - WHERE in the process do you give your payment card details?

Thanks.

Someone ask for it, and got one of the concert via link before to get the real stick  ???

I don't know if you mean me jbaent, but if so you're wrong. I didn't 'ask' for a link. I ordered and payed (upfront trough online banking) for the stick, but fotgot to add the ordering information. They receieved the money but without the ordering information they didnt know where to send the stick.

When I hadn't received anything after 2 weeks I asked them about it in an email (again, didn't ask for a download link, but asked if they received the money and had send me the stick already). After 3 days they replied and the misunderstanding about the forgotten ordering information was sorted out. As a service from them they gave me the download link for the concert I had already payed for so that I shouldn't have to wait another 1-2 weeks before getting the recording on the stick !

So yes, I did receieve a link before getting the stick, but not because I asked for it but because i made a mistake !

Not as an excuse, but I'm down with the flu at the moment so that may have had something to do with way I answered your posting. In the end all the confusion (at least from my side) could have been avoided if you had been more specific in your first or second posting. As it stands, I was so far (correct me if I'm wrong) the only one who posted in this topic to have received a link without actually having received a stick first, so it wasn't very strange that I felt you talked about me, is it ?

Stefan, I didnt read your post. We write too much and I miss many of the posts, or better said, I look at them very quickly searching for key words that make me stop and read. Yours is, forgive me, one of the lots of unread posts (by me) so sorry about the confusion, I didnt know you could think I was talking about you, and I never thought that could be so big deal.

Accept my appologies, get well and win the battle to that flu (you know, a flu last seven days with medication, a week without it), and have a nice day!

I played the files on the stick the first time with VLC player. I thought the quality was actually really bad, the songs sounded out of tune, as if the speed with which the songs were played was not consistent. I don't know how to explain otherwise. Playing it now with windows media player and it sounds very good!

Ok, I play it on my iMac, in Audacity. Overall the mix is ok, I just find that MK voice is mixed too loud. Public is well mixed, at times when we thought it was over, they put cut or softer. I'm happy with it, but it was 2005 and the Simfy recordings really better.

Just arrived back home after two 'mind-blowing' concert's at the RAH to find Mr Postman has delivered my two sticks from 'our' Bournemouth & Brighton shows. Bournemouth show is really good and pleased with it, but Brighton stick is blank!! Grrrrr!! Email sent.....

Hope the RAH stick will not be blank......

Hey Ingrid, just been listening to the Brighton show and would you believe it but that woman can be heard shouting 'play walk of life' continuously after Our Shangri-la'! It was as you know bad enough on the night itself let alone on a recording!!! Good to have met you again over the past weekend...

I tried to stop her, because she was shouting in my ear and now you all heard that it on the recording you can imagine that my ears were bleeping from that shouting woman.  ::) I told here that Going Home would be played and no chance for Walk of Life but she kept shouting.  :o

Got the Sofia and Lodz sticks yesterday. Have to say that the USB stick looks absolutely beautifull (and they are quite heavy, much more than I expected) !

Ordered the May 27th RAH concert today, mainly to get the 'sax songs', the Ruth duets and a version of Our Shangri-La.

I assume that they have maybe underestimated the demand for the sticks, hence the supply problems.  Whatever the situation is good luck with you issues regarding the sticks.

Agreed..I might add that it is a distinct possibility that PCM underestimated Bleecker Street's ability to produce   :smack. They probably got overwhelmed with orders when people saw the set list for the 27th..and heard all the reviews. I personally held off ordering it until I knew it was worth paying for. The second I saw the set list..I placed the order.

I'm so happy with the RAH stick.
Especially with TR...
I used to complain *a lot* about the (in)famous "karaoke mode" after "rolling rover". Well... this was before. Thanks to Jim Cox. The piano solo is so great that a thought of blasphemy came to my mind: "this piano is so beautiful that it is actually better than the guitar in 1996/2001/2005..". Oops, what did I think ! :) In 2008/2010 Matt's relax playing and the piano being low in the mix made me really feel it was karaoke, but in 2013 Jim"s energy plus the good volume of piano in the mix and the added synth like in the good old days make this version of TR special... in fact, quite competitive with Lyon'2005 and Vaison'96, my ultimate favourites. Anybody feeling the same ? :)

Now... I want it on video, not only audio ! :(

Before RAH my reference concert was Istanbul - very nice, energetic performance of Sultans and TR !
I have replaced on my playlist Istanbul with RAH - although they are quite close, I feel RAH has an edge for the whole atmosphere and energy. TR is longer and has more original licks in the end solo.
Then Amsterdam is needed for KOG with Ruth, and at least of of the 3 (3 only !! what a shame ! :( ) recordings of YTC (Bucharest, Sofia, Lubjana). My favourite is Lubjana for the extended solo. dmg prefers Sofia, which is true has a better build-up to the solo. Matter of taste.
Nice to have is Liverpool because of the extended So far away (and Gator Blood).
And of course if you like Back to Tupelo, Piper to the end and 5.15am you need to get sticks where they have been played :) Belgrade 5.15am is my favourite, first time it was played but best energy in the guitar solo. Tupelo and Piper are great whatever the stick I believe.

I agree with you, I never understood why the STP tour is so poorly regarded here. That's the tour that introduced marvels like WII and SAN. As a fan of TR I find the 2001 versions fantastic, very energetic and great sounding. MFN intro was very original, better than the barking of the BIA tour, and better than the emptiness that followed in 2005 ! Speedway is a bit young but great ending. And Junkie Doll and Pyroman were gems never to be heard afterwards, sadly !

As for the DVD, yeah, it's a pity, really. If memory serves I think Mark felt that this was the day after Chet Atkins' death and his performance suffered from that. Too bad...

I love 2001 tour.
I love SAN 2001 versions because of mark's licks on acoustic (e.g. Toronto) and THREE guitars with much power, Richard's licks on Telecaster.
tehre are other gems : wag the dog, baloney, baby now, and yes Walk of life (great mike henderson playing on all)
and last but not least, the return of the legendary 61 strat ! Probably the one used on Sultans studio version ! shame it never went back afterwards
Yes TR is great, and the best MFN intro IMHO (I would love to have not known the setlist before the gig...my bigger regret in MK live experience)

The Zwolle stick is great (both sound and performances) .. great to re-live that great night again. IDUAD is really outstanding (i'm probably in the minority when I say that I prefer these versions to the ones with EH in 2006).

I compared it with Istanbul, Sofia, Belgrade, Ljublajana, Liverpool, Birmingham, Amsterdam, RAH 27th and Zwolle. Overall I see Antwerpen compared to these shows as the best recording. I attended the show of Zwolle myself. The Zwolle stick has a very good recording too, and is probably number 2 in my book, but Antwerpen remains my absolute favorite. I have high-end equipment so I hear every little detail and have a well trained musical ear.

That's the DVD I'd like to have!  Great tour and great versions.  If memory serves I think Guy said the audience was too loud, but that's a feeble excuse not to release.  There must be other reasons.

And dont forget the soundcheck of Silvertown Blues, such a shame it never made it to to the set...

Strange .. Haven't got the RAH stick yet which I orderd on May 31st, but the Zwolle stick that I ordered on June 11th did arrive today. have sent them an email about the London stick.
I ordered the RAH stick on the 28th..still not here. Sent them an email and got a reply stating that they actually ran out of sticks to cover the crush from the orders from the 27th show..and that it would be shipped the next day. Still not here... :disbelief

Thanks again guitarman for your thoughts. I appreciate your taking your time again and sharing your opinion. This is really very helpful for me as I'm intensely interested in what might be the best sticks to have from this awesome tour sound and performance wise. There are of course those sticks that are worth buying just to have one rare song like YTC, 5.15 am and Miss you blues apart from the overall performance of the show. But then of course you try to have those magic nights on stick where the band surpasses itself. In the end it all remains a matter of personal taste of course.
So thank you again for your help!

Lucky you Stefan..at least you got a link! :thumbsup It seems to me that this company drastically underestimated the volume of orders they would receive from the RAH show. The sticks were a fantastic idea for the tour..maybe a bit pricey..but I believe that PCM might probably shop around a bit more for a production company with the ability to meet the demand ...for the next tour.

I agree that it's a brilliant idea to offer all the concerts "professionally" recorded. And the Fender stick and packaging are fantastic, but, I do think the Simfy option during the Get Lucky tour of having the choice to buy either a souvenir USB stick or a download link for each gig was better value.

A download option this time around, could have helped with the supply problems of the RAH show. I mean how many red fender 4Gb USB sticks does one person really need?

:think I'm no marketing guru, but I would have had at least 6 different guitar sticks made so that folks would be tempted to pick at least six concerts to buy...about 11 shows to choose from for each guitar.

Same number on my receipt. Think it's just a product code.

Really enjoyable gig and no problems with the stick (I know some early receivers had problems with a corrupted "Going Home"). One thing, my storage box did not have a sticker on the inside to identify the concert recording, is this unusual?
I'm not complaining as I was wondering how to get a clean guitar case, because I want to put all my Bleecker St recordings onto one stck (I have 6. May get 1 or 2 more if finances allow) and didn't really want to try to peel the sticker off one of the other boxes in case I damaged it.

Returned home from holiday yesterday to a very nice surprise - my usb stick of the RAH show was waiting for me!  I have only had time to listen once, but the sound quality is extremely good and imo much better than the Simfy recordings.

It was great to re-live the wonderful evening at the RAH with all the fans.

I was at Clermont ferrand and Dijon myself. The energy in Dijon was the best. Haven't been to paris Caen and Rennes so can't judge about that one. In general it seems that concerts where it's hot are the best these days. Don't know why, but except RAH1 which is also one of my faves it seems that all other faves were the hot ones: Zwolle Stuttgart and Frankfurt.

when the difference is really amazing ,as you say, than that shouldn't be a problem .

Just dame home 10 minutes ago, so catching up with the forum again ?

The Stuttgart one was:
- more  balanced, it sounded like it grew  into the whole band. Hard to describe. I would have loved to hear it after another 10 shows, I am sure it would have been better again.
- better solo's, both MK and NH
- Bad Mergentheim was a little bit boring as Pottel described it, but he also admitted, although he doesn't like this song very much, that this version was really good
- more energy, more power

thx for your review of these both performances of he song.
I couldn't give a listen to either shows yet, ( I couldn't find or missed a version of them on you tube)
Do you mean that the Stuttgart version was stretched , and that Nigel had room for a solo on his clarinet,
or did he just "repeat" the original tune more powerful  as the days before ?

I definitely agree with you when it comes to playing this song till the last show, unfortunately it wasn't in the set during Nimes,(as you certainly knows ;)

Agree... stunning track and even better live... And now very addictive on my Iphone...
And as far as I am concerned, it is the most expensive song ever for me, as I gave up on everything to go to Stuttgart just to listen to it:
- financially, I had to pay for the concert ticket, the train ticket first class (to be able to work) and one night hotel,
- personally, I had to leave my family at a moment where it was less than appropiate,
- professionnally, I gave up my projet, just trying to make up for it working in the train.

Yet I don't regret anything ! I was there ! for the best of the (only ) 4 times ! :) Thanks again Ingrid who helped me so much...

I confirm that you can buy the Lodz stick for the Hillfarmer Blues version.
though everybody got their own favorites!
Marks guitar is very well hearable in the mix , the outro solo is very ,very nice , I love the "raking" stuff on his guitar which he does twice during this version,(fast down strum of some muted strings , then followed by the root note of the (next) chord in the song over which he plays the solo).

so there can be better version for whatever  reason...........but I can not deny  it's not worth buying  :wave

Guy has replied but reply is a little vague. Says they should be available but not indefinitely. No time scale though as to how long that may be.  :)

I sent a mail to the company that distributes the sticks with the question how long they would be available.  This was their answer:

"There is still no fixed final date agreed yet, however, it is very likely that the sticks are available throughout August, too."

So it would seem we have a little bit of time to make up our mind as to which concerts we want to order :)

Maybe it is planned to put out the Madrid one as an "official" release - I remember jbaent telling us about rumours of plans to release a Live-album-package (incl. DVD from the BBC TV-Show?)... Madrid was the one of choice for the "Privateering Super Deluxe Download Option" already. So maybe we will have it later. Only question then would be: Do they skip Marbletown or Telegraph Road (again)?  ???  If they would plan to do so, I am sure PC doesn't wish to let Bleecker tell us und just brings up fairytales about high fees and stuff...

By the way, just checked and saw at amazon.de the Privateering Limited Super Deluxe Edition is still available for 49,99

I am not aware of any official filming of the MK crew during this tour, apart from one or two shows where screens were used obviously...

The release I was speculating at would be a pure audio live album release.

The USB Flash drive of the Madrid concert was the one I had ordered back on 2 June, so with this reply I received from  markknopfler-live.com this evening 30 July (Australia timezone),

"....unfortunately we have to inform you, that there won't be a recording of the Madrid concert.
Please let us know, if you want a refund for your order or if you would like to have a recording from a different concert on your usb flash drive..."  ......

so fellow AMIT's,  "Which Of the many Concerts"   would you recommend,  I get instead  ?

St Julien, Rennes, London were great ones.

Avoid Paris, Clermont [Dijon is better but different tracklist], Nimes, Glasgow...

Madrid concert was recorded but they dont sell it because of the prices.

I do think that when they accepted the preorders they kind of made a contract that they have to honour, so as long as the concert is recorded, I think they have to send it to the preorders. I understand they dont sell it anymore because they retired the concert from the site but the preorders...

What do you think? i emailed them asking to honour that preorders.

I will not use PayPal under any circumstances.  I was able to buy sticks using my Visa Debit card.  Choose Saferpay eCommerce, and it will let you put in the card number.  When I first tried to order, it wasn't working, but it's been fixed and I got my order through and received the sticks with no problem.

Two reasons.

First, they screwed up the account I had - charged $595 to it AFTER I had spoken to their Fraud department and received e-mail confirmation that the charge was bogus, then took more than a month to get the money back into my bank account.

Second, when they told Smashwords they had to remove some books for sale on their site or PayPay would no longer process payments for them, that tore it.  If someone wants to buy books, the payment system only needs to know the amount.  What the books are is NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS.

That's why.

Its like travel agency's and airplane companies , there are always people who have a personal thing to complain about and the may be right, still a hotel can be good for others and planes don't drop from the sky regularly .
I am sure somebody must have had a negative experience with Saferpay ecommerce also , that's the way that the world goes round.

For a moment I thought my money wasn't safe  ;)

I guess the capitals are an expression, though I do understand without   :wave

Never had any trouble with paypal. I received some fishingmails a few months ago, wanting me to login on my account. Recognized it so I didn't. I sent the mails to their fraud department and they were happy to receive them. If you use it the same as your bankaccount and never react at fishingmails you will have no problems. That's what I think.

Very useful to pay eachother around the globe imho

Isn't it cool that there will be sticks of the five US shows as well? I consider buying the first one. Long Beach is Jim Cox's home - and they might explode in joy and happiness after seeing themselves again like they did in Zwolle...

I imagine that the cooperation with Bleecker Street might have been a success and that there maybe will be usb-sticks from future tours as well. Phantastic thought. It is really awesome to have a complete tour covered  by soundboard recordings. Lots of possibilities for concert-goers to choose from.  Only thing is you get greedy - in 2010 we all were happy with having the second part of the tour released. Nowadays everything but a complete 2015 tour on usb stick would be a disappointment. If there will be one!  ;)

The Simpson also have four fingers - just looks better.  ;D  To work out six strings on that miniature guitar would have been far too expensive. It is just industrial produced and pretty cheap - although it doesn't feel like it because of its weight. But six strings on it would probably have meant 5 Euros more for us to pay or so.
