Title: Prince's Trust '86 different video source & unknown MK guitar
Post by: Vesper on November 10, 2014, 02:05:21 PM
Hi all,
Ran into this video today and discovered it is a different video source than the usual one for this song.
This is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9m1JvfYK4k
The song I'm talking about is Everytime you go away performed by Paul Young & George Michael.
If you search for this song on youtube you will get the usual video but in that one Mark's guitar isn't shown proper.
In this one you can see Mark playing the unknown guitar (to me) at 28.46 and 29.17.
I've added some screenshots of the guitar in this post for you.

Does anyone have an idea what guitar that is and why it is only in this video version?

I just discovered the song was played twice :smack
First time by Paul Young (where Mark's guitar is shown proper) and second time by Paul Young and George Michael (where Mark's guitar isn't shown proper).

Still, what's that guitar

never seen before
I think it's a borrowed one
at this kind of gig Mark (like all others musicians) could not have his whole proper gear like he had on tour, so there was some guitars/amps/effects shared by several artists I guess, and this one could be one among others...
I can't recognize the model
I believe it's at the same gig that Mark used the burn-baldwin-12strings and the sunburst schecter strat
Why did he use this specific guitar on this song ? :think

Looks like a Danelectro or perhaps Coral Sitar... It's that quirky sound. No need for Ingo, Bordie's here ;)

Looks like the Coral to me although they are very similar.  I think you can just see the volume knobs are chrome and there is "Vincent Bell" writing on it where there isn't any on the Danelectro.  Well done.

So this is Mark playing a sitar then?

Funny that Paul Young performed this song on his own only a few minutes earlier in the show (as Klaas said) then did it again when George Michael arrived.  The excuse was that "the bus was late!"  Elton John who performed I'm Still Standing before this song said they were going to change their set because there was a latecomer.  Obviously GM had rehearsed this song with PY but got delayed on his way to the gig!

Love this song btw - great version.

Cool find. The record does have a sitar type sound on it if memory serves.

When you watch the video it's clear that he's playing those opening licks on it.

Very cool!
