That's hilarious!
at my box is wrong - it´s entitled with "traditional melody"
Ben Knopfler (MK´s son) has a badass band that play metal rock... could this be a homage to his son´s band? The intro is quite like a hard rock band, and also the end, even the song is more like Celtic Dance thing...

Jbaent, You could be right! I haven't heard the song, but reading the lyrics they would certainly fit a band like The Rocket Dolls! I would love to hear this song! ;)
It could be so cool to have a little listen before I've got my box set............................ ;Dyeah, if anyone can share i'd appreciate it. Although my boxset was posted yesterday so should have it tomorrow.

I think it´s not. Ben didn´t know anything about that song, and he doesn´t want anything realted with his father in his Facebook. Also, the word shagpile is an Irish word, and the happenings seems to be olcated in the south of the States.
I'm irish, never heard the word shagpile mentioned in my 30 years
Who is laughing at the very end of the song? ;D
Who is laughing at the very end of the song? ;D
i would also like to have that one and time will end all sorrow pleeeasee..PM
Not really keen on the guitar on this one; it just gets annoying with it's whining and no actual solo. On the other hand there is a nice melody to it.
Even Guy has said this song has nothing to go with Ben Knopfler's band, "the rocket dolls", that heavy guitar at the beginning, that badass band reference, that they are a band of the south (Ben band is based in the south of the UK, Brighton) still suggest to me that Mk is kind of joking with his son's band.
Yes, I know the lyrics says it's a band if the US and from Oklahoma, but that's the fictional part :lol
Thought it was but 'cojones' is North American for 'Testicles'!!!

Actually cojones is a word in Spanish that means testicles.

Yes, it looks like in some parts of NA is kind of trendy to use some Spanish words mixed with English. I see it in many tv shows, comedies etc
It would be great to end the shows with Oklahoma Ponies and have a good old ceilidh in front of the stage! I'm sure the entire audience would be on their feet! ;D
The guy laughing at the end is definitely not MK
That's not the way MK laughs
'Got his cojones on my desk in there
Made into a souvenir'
indeed from DCTA!! Well done....
I will try and send you both the tune later as this song needs spreading!!!
Love the epic key change from I to IV, really makes me think I'm at an Irish dance and the band just heard that someone bought them a bottle of whisky each !
Is there one in yakety axe (neck and neck) where he plays a nice lick over it too - unless I'm mistaken?
True. That yakety lick is a masterpiece though, I could do with a tutorial on that one foma ;)
And it was probably first change of key in the whole Mark's songbook ever. First and an epic one :)
At least I can't remember any modulations in his music from the top of my head.
Not really trendy here in California... we've adopted a lot of Spanish words and phrases - over generations. :DThought it was but 'cojones' is North American for 'Testicles'!!!

Well there's Gravy Train, off the top of my head.
Oh, and hello again everyone!

It's hard to tell any similarities.... :think;D

I listened to this version of Shove The Pig's Foot.
Did you notice that Mike and John are playing?

Saul
Anyone mentioned this one? From the film Cold Mountain. It's played live and briefly in the film where Rubys dad returns to the house and plays the fiddle for her, very cute :)

The intro from Fear and Hatred sounds like the intro from OP. You should listen to it, there is a certain similarity.

Mmmmm, it´s just noise really, kind of suggesting that the band gathers at the garage/local/wherever to start reharsing and plug the guitars and start making noise while the drummer does the same etc etc
If you played anytime in a band, you know how it is ;) ;D
