With the recent playing of Metroland, which I've never heard, I was wondering if folks can recommend 'must have' soundtracks from Mark?
I only have Local Hero and in particular I would hate to miss out on any gems such as Smooching if they are out there :)

Wag the dog and Shot at glory are real gems
Shot at glory contains 3 songs with lyrics which is uncommon on MK soundtrack
if you're looking MK style, these 2 ones are a must
I also love smooching. the tune "working on it" from the wag the dog sountracks has that typical stratish sound

Local hero, Cal, Wag the dog, Metroland and A shot at glory are the soundtracks you NEED to have, beautiful songs, beautifully played, with many musicians adding his best to the melodies... Lot of MK guitar on them.
The Princess Bride is nice but it's mainly Guy Fletcher playing keyboards and synths, with also many guitar by MK, beautiful too, but too much synths in my opinion.
Last exit to Brooklynn is 98% Guy Fletcher playing synths. Strings, percussion etc etc etc all played by him. In just one song you can hear MK playing guitar, the same song has saxophone, and there is two songs with real violins playing. This score have at least three wonderful tracks (A love idea, Tralala and Finale Last Exit to Brooklynn) but the rest, too much synths.

Wow, your opinion matches exactly my tastes about MK's soundtracks. In Princess Bride, I would add that my favorite songs are Florin dance, Morning ride and Friend's song.
And it's a shame that Comfort and Joy wasn't realeased on CD...

Oh yes, I always forget "Comfort and Joy", and I like it quite a lot too, just three songs, one quiet with a nice moledy, one fast with also a great melody and the last one, a interesting variation in instrumental of Private Investigations played on mandoline... great one.
This one is easy to find in LP in ebay.

Just listening to Fistful of icecream now. It's Private Investigations in 3/4 time (waltz). Ha! Never think I actually listened to this tune before. Not exactly a masterpiece the Comfort and Joy soundtrack.

No, not a masterpiece at all, but at least the two first tracks are nice ones.

They used the intro of TR in the film too and one of the characters quoted a line from INR!

I would rate them in this order.
1. Local Hero
2. The Princess Bride
3. Comfort and Joy
4. Metroland
5. Wag the Dog
6. Last Exit to Brooklyn
7. Cal
8. A Shot at Glory
To be fair after the first two there is a BIG drop in quality. The first two are bona fide classics.

Funny, I haven't even seen Princess Bride (saw a bit, not my thing), Metroland, Cal or A Shot at Glory!
I would put the others in the same order but wouldn't say there's a big drop in quality. I'd say Comfort and Joy is low budget and low key but is no less enjoyable for that. It also has a nice charm to it that characterised Local Hero.

A Shot at Glory is just terrible. You might appreciate Ally McCoist acting but I'm sure you would object to Ally McCoist in a Celtic shirt!

Not photoshopped, I remember seeing it in the paper at the time.
Cup final between Rangers (RIP :) ) and Hearts, 1998 I think, some "friendly" Rangers fans asked Duvall if they could get a picture with their football scarf and he happily obliged. :)

I watched Metroland solely because of its music, it turned out to be a weak, so you lost almost nothing.

However I fancy, if it were not for the art of Emily Watson's acting, it would have been a total failure.

Just listened to a small clip on YT and can't seem to work out what part of Donegal he's supposed to be from! ;D

Lol. Duvall's Scottish accent is as good as Sean Connery's Oscar winning Irish accent in The Untouchables, ie laughable.
