There is not any complete version, the tv channel only broadcasted 90 minutes as maximum in a special broadcast that included an edited version of "Tunnel Of Love" and "Solid Rock" with Nils Lofgren, that were originally left out from the 60' original broadcast, and later a "Expresso Love" version appeared I can´t remember from where, it looks like it was used as and advert for the broadcast, but that´s all.
Maybe you can get some luck writting to the channel, I think it was channel 4 who broadcasted it in 1985.
-
Yes, you are right, i have to intent contact Channel 4, thanks my friend :wave

It was shown on a series they had called The Tube, I believe.

Even if it does exist somewhere, I would imagine the tape has probably deteriorated greatly by now. Speaking of tape, it might be fun to guess what analog format it was recorded on. Probably U-Matic... or maybe Betacam?
-
I dont know my friend, that concert is probably impossible to find complete :´(
-
You think that the "probably existent" tape has very deteriored by now?
Probably in any day in any year :-\ we find any complete source

Alchemy tapes were well restored for the bluray.

Yes, quality wise. But the person who decided to go 4:3 (on a Blu-ray for Christ sake!) should have been fired. :disbelief

If it was taped that way it might be difficult to change it without compromising the image, who knows, I totally ignore about those tecnical things.
However, is not the same Channel Four who owns the Alchemy recordings?
I guess that if Universal / Virgin Records decides to release some day a special edition of Brothers In Arms, they could ask Channel Four for those Wembley recordings and release it on dvd, if they have the original recording without that awful analogic effects on the images, that probably were cool on 1985, but nowadays...
-
Wasn't Alchemy shot in super 16 argentic format ?
Whereas Wembley 85 is videotape.
-
If they shot it for TV, exclusively, for that years TV... It must be in 4:3...

I'm sure you're right. It kind of has that look in any case.

Yes, those 80s effects! Maybe had an influence on whether they were released or not. At the moment they are retro!
-
With an audience recording i´m go to stay very happy, but does not exist..
Are they think that exists any audience recording?
-
Maybe, gemms are found every day. Years ago I found by complete accident an audience recording of the Alchemy night, so knows what will surface next and when...
-
Oh my friend, it was happened the same thing to me.
3 years ago, i´ve searching in the net (not remember what thing) and i´ve founded the alchemy audience recording..i was very happy. So, i hope that someday the audience recording of Wembley appears :think

Well, quite a few of those Wembley shows are circulating. We already have circulating the nights: 4th, 8th, 11th, 15th and 16th. You never know!
The 13th would be interesting as it is the same day the did Live Aid in the afternoon.

I know it's not much info, but as it turns out it was Gavin Taylor who directed the two DS appearances on the Tube. He also directed the famous Queen concert at Wembley stadium in '86. Unfortunately, he died in 2013, but the article about his death mentions DS and interestingly enough also mentions a private viewing room with video not seen before...

I think that they have a very short distance to find the complete Wembley concert :o
-
A clip of the Wembley 85 show broadcast on the Tube cropped up in the MK documentary 'A Life in Songs'. I am sure someone who has the time and inclination could compare the quality of that clip with the versions circulating on the YouTube.
This will give a clue as to whether the tapes still exist as I am sure the BBC would have had access to the source material from Channel 4.
-
Yes, the quality is different
-
I dont find that section. Can you post here the link?

Was there a "ride accross the river" at wembley 1985?
The one broadcasted hasn't
-
They played it every night, just not broadcasted :)
-
Why?
We have got 50 "Ride Across" openings but Wembley
-
I think that "cuted" the concert to can broadcast in the proper time restrictions
-
Every TV or radio station has to buy the rights to broadcast video or sound from a concert,if it last for more than 2 or 3 minutes. It has nothing to do with how long, or what the artist is performing.
According to setlist.fm which is a very trustful source, this is what they played:
1. Ride Across The River
2. Expresso Love
3. So Far Away
4. Romeo & Juliet
5. Private Investigations
6. Sultans Of Swing
7. Why Worry
8. Walk Of Life
9. Two Young Lovers
10. The Man´s Too Strong
11. Money For Nothing
12. Tunnel Of Love
13. Brothers In Arms
14. Solid Rock (with Nils Lofgren)
15. Going Home (with Hank Marvin)
Standard set list, except for Wild West End. That makes sense too, kind of..

It´s a very rare thing that they didnt played Wild west end that night..

no it is not.
as always, the setlist is at marks' discretion. he decides.

It is quite interesting however, I think. WWE is really Jack's "Marbletown moment" and if the entire show was to be recorded perhaps Mark thought better of performing that particular song that evening as it isn't really a necessary part of the set...

I don't think so. This was a regular show so why cut it off?
Are we 100% sure of that setlist and WWE omission?
-
Its probably that they dropped off WWE for that night..because they played WWE both 8 july and 11..
It´s possible..

exactly. and do not mind asking Guy. just know that we will never know.

When they played The Man's Too Strong, is Wild West End left out of the set?
I never thought about it and I never checked it...

no, all gigs from east europe in spring 85 have both WWE and TMTS

How do we know that the footage for The Tube special is entirely from the July 10th show anyway? It's not mentioned anywhere in the broadcast and we don't have recordings of each Wembley show from that run to compare to. Could it be that a song or two was edited in from a different night?
-
Oh my god, i never mind that..
Its really a good, good point
I´ts posibble, but i dont sure, i suposse that no
Anyway, the alchemy video is from the 2 nights at the hamemrsmith (only solid rock is from the night before) and the video likes was from one performance...

They usually record one night for tv and radio shows don't they?

Tobben i not understanded you reply.. sorry

I have never heard about several concerts being recorded for making one hour of TV or radio show. I know a lot of guys who are working for TV and radio channels, and they have never talked about recording several concerts to make one appearance on TV or radio. I dont think the artist would have agreed with that either..
-
Yes, it´s a valid point..
However, we dont know exactly wich happens with this gig..

Eric Clapton Baloise which is a composite of both November 13 & 14 gigs. But this is the only case I know about for TV broadcast.
Regarding radio only, the famous KBFH "Brussels Affair" 1973 shows airplay by the Rolling Stones that mix both afternoon and evening show with part form Empire Pool gig as well.

This was my thought as well. I have The Tube broadcast on VHS tape (now pretty worn out due to the number of times I played along with it !) and I always thought it was cut strangely, with The Mans Too Strong being played after BIA, and before Going Home. (There are other changes in the order of the songs compared to the setlist as well). They have either changed the order of the songs around for the broadcast, or compiled the show from 2 or 3 nights' recordings. Do we know for certain that Hank was there on 10th?
-
Its unknown the reason of why they broadcasted the songs in a altered order
-
It´s not 100% sure of that night was the 10th..
Hank was too in the 8th night, 11st, 14th 15th and 16th night..
We dont know certainly if the Local Hero performance is from 10th July ( i thnk that yes)
-
The songs order was altered to be in the same order than the BIA record.
-
I don't think the whole band wore the same t-shirts every nights so I would say it is a single concert recording.

indeed!

to be more accurate, only the end of solid rock (Terry's drum break) is from the 22. All the rest of the AUDIO recording is from the 23. so it IS one performance
http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/230783.htm (http://www.oneverybootleg.nl/230783.htm)
as for the video, it seems that it's a comp of both nights. Years ago, someone pointed out that druing once upon a time microphones are not the same on close-ups than in large cuts
-

yes I wonder the same.
on the rare pics thread, Terry 82 posted pics from wembley with Mark wearing the cowboy shirt
of course he wored it for live aid at welbley stadium, but did he wera it the same day at wembley arena ?
I thought that his stage clothes for wembley nights were the same, i.e the light blue t-shirt like on TV brodacast, but it seems not :think
-
I don't think the whole band wore the same t-shirts every nights so I would say it is a single concert recording.
Well, sometimes they do. Take a look at 'On The Night', recorded at Feyenoord Stadium, Rotterdam and Les Arenes, Nimes. During both nights they wore the same clothing. During some of the songs you'll see footage from both venues during one song.

They use what they call "stage cloths", used only for the shows. If they are video taping the shows, they will use the same cloths that will be washed and ironed after one show to be used the next day.
-
In fact, seems like that Mark in the major part of the Wembley nights used the blue t-shirt, and used jeans and dress pant (the one that he uses at 10th July) (i think that this was a dress pant, haha)

The 13th would be interesting as it is the same day the did Live Aid in the afternoon.
Did he played at live aid concert before a full concert at might? ?
-
Yes, he played two songs at Live Aid, crossed the parking, entered the arena and played their own show.
-
I bet Mark can play in two venues at SAME TIME... he is not from this planet..

Hello everyone!
A huge Dire Straits fan from Finland books into this interesting forum. But straight to the point.
Many years ago I ordered from ITN Source the original archive copy of this concert. The quality is best as you can get. Sadly it's "only" the 60 minutes version of this brilliant concert. I asked from the archive did they have the longer version, but the answer was negative. Here is the link where you can find the concert: http://www.itnsource.com/en/shotlist/ITVProgs/1986/01/03/T00200084/?s=dire%20straits. You have to email them and they will get you a copy of it into a DVD. :clap
