GREAT!!!
What do you all think.. Will he have his band or will he play with others???
-
I imagine the band will be Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. MK has played with them before.

Congrats to you!
What do they charge for a ticket?
-
All the way at the front, you pay 270 pounds per ticket ???
I'm one block more to the back, at the first row, which is 111 pounds.
Will try to record the show and take some pics.

Thank you for the info!

Wow! 270 BP a pop, that should be a celebration for the birthday boy! ;D
-
I hope those that go enjoy themselves and post a review for us. I love Bill Wymans Rhythmn Kings. If they play Dissapearing Nightly that'd be worth the price of tickets alone for me. Its a cracking tune. Anyway not long now.

He also played on Van's track(s).
Playtime Deluxe really sounds like a great new track, but nothing MK has done before. It was a fantastic night!
-
Hi Marijn,
Thanksss for sharing file and a question for you: Mark have played with Bill and Robert Plant?
Thanks again
-
Not really.. only during the final, but that didn't really work out well ;)
-

Thanks! Holy smokes, I love this one. Definitely a Mark song but as you say, different to anything before.
-
I know that tune, under another titles.
Classic blues stuffs.
But nice guitar playing by The Man.
-
Love it love it love it!!!!!
The start has a lot of "New Orleans" in it :)
-
Love it too! :D :clap
-
Is outro solo by Mark or not?
-
Is outro solo by Mark or not?
It has to be Mark.

It's so obvious that I wonder how this question comes up?

I listened it only once, but it sounded like some of the licks were played with pick. But I am happy to be wrong.
-
totally love playtime deluxe!! , reminds me a very tiny bit of tom waits down in the hole, but missed seeing sonny liston live...... yet again:(, did the whole band play sonny?? that would be interesting to see how that sounded and a different donegon's gone too, hopeing for a more bluesy album next with folk in-between would be amazing
-
Very good question!

Hope you don't feel offended. I have listened to it two and a half times and don't like it too much. The guitar has this "wrecking" style which sounds very Markish was what I meant.

I love that train crash sound. I remember that MK did it on some of the live versions of Coyote. 8)

Brilliant picture ;D

Brilliant picture ;D
So that's what they meant by mentioning Mark as percussionist on "Local Hero" soundtrack album? I knew it, I knew it ;D
-
Brilliant picture ;D
Is this MK signature buben or what? He can't play just the regular tambourine!
-
Brilliant picture ;D
MLUvOtqTmYM
Chit! What a taight pans!
-
Or maybe it's "Mr. Tambourine Man" Tribute for Bob Dylan? Or can we expect solo one-man-band album?
And maybe "band session" was a hint for Mark playing all the instruments? Okay, I'll stop now :lol
-
He used his new signature LP too :)
-
Brilliant picture ;D
Is Mark in it? ;)

Ah exactly what I was thinking. It sounds great

We had a good time at Bill Wyman's Birthday Celebration concert last night. I wouldn't have even thought about going if mrs twm had not wanted to go, especially as the ticket prices were so high - not to mention a hotel night, travel etc. Putting all of that aside, I'm really glad we went.
I can understand that "AMIT-ers" herein would wish to concentrate on MK's contribution but I enjoyed just about every performer and they all seemed genuine in valuing Bill Wyman as a friend.
Just as I would find it difficult to criticise any performance (OK, Bob Geldof talked too much), I find it hard to single out any particular performer or highlight but I'll mention a couple - MK's new song, aside. I thought Joe Brown was a great choice as an opener, as he's a really warm performer (Mollie Marriott, who joined him for his song song, is Steve Marriott's daughter, by the way). And I thought Imelda May (just a name to me before this show) was quite ballsy to choose a song by The Animals but she really has the lungs to match Eric Burdon's vocals. And Robert Plant's voice has held up really well over the years. If I go on, I'll end up saying something about everyone and I don't have the time.
Two minor MK asides (I should stress here that I haven't read all the posts closely nor looked at all the images etc included, so somebody may have mentioned them already):
> "Playtime Deluxe" had a video running on the screen behind the musicians. It was mainly a film of the a never-ending highway in a fairly empty landscape, viewed from the front of a coach or truck by the angle of the shot. At the beginning, the title of the song was shown on-screen. Does this mean that it was a video prepared by MK and his team?
> Muleskinner Blues is the name that everyone uses for this song but it was actually "Blue Yodel No.8". Jimmie Rodgers wrote about a dozen songs in the Blue Yodel series over a number of years. The first was just called "Blue Yodel", then became "Blue Yodel No.1" or, more fully "Blue Yodel No. 1 (T for Texas)". Similarly, "Blue Yodel No.8 (Muleskinner Blues)" is the more complete title.

Song is ok. "Part time saint" - a nod to Chet?
-
Nice to hear something new and energetic - kind of reminds me of Bobs, Beyond Here Lies Nothing (from Together Through Life, great album) - and glad to hear it was a great night out twm :)

Funny you should say that, Fletch, because Mark's guitar, when he played Beyond Here Lies Nothing with Bob, has been going around in my head since I heard the new song. :)

I don´t think so...
Funny when Robert Plant go to where MK is offering the mic, MK tries to approach him and, it wasn´t MK attention what Plant wanted, but Mick Hucknall!!!! funny ;D ;D ;D ;D

I literally laughed my bottom off at that moment, SO AWKWARD. Like — hey, the mic is not for you, who are you, anyway? Skate away and play buben.

And also the way MK plays the tambourine, like if he was a statue...

Actually, I felt very sorry for MK, because I don't think he's a party animal at all - just look at how he stands on the periphery with the tambourine, yards away from the rest of the group, looking utterly out of place and uncomfortable. :(

At least he tries, LOL
But it´s true, you can see he is quite uncomfortable with the situation, but having fun as well

Yes, he was trying hard, but I'm sure he would have been much more comfortable holding a guitar. It was the distance between him and the rest of the group that struck me as sad, especially when he thought the mic was for him, but then he realised it was for Mick - I just wanted to give him a hug.
-
This is classic, I'm sure many of you would understand him. Personally I'm not a party animal at all.
Great example also was when Mark was interviewed by Chris Evans with this blonde and Nile Rodgers.
While Evans, the Blonde and Nile was having a very good time, Mark was "on the side" the whole time, but when some crazy shit started to happen, like "Nile Rodgers impersonating Mark Knopfler" and "Mark Knopfler impersonating Nile Rodgers", some crazy things like that, also involving Sultans at one point, Mark then all of the sudden started clapping, laughing and "having a good time" with the rest, obviously out of defence really, rather out of true feeling of being involved in this circus. It was very awkward to say the least. I hope he got paid sufficiently.

Promo on one of the stars programmes of BBC Radio 2... That's paying enough!

I thought that what was going on center stage with the "ladies" and all going wild and totally overplaying was more kind of embarrassing. And that it gave Mark AND Mick more a kind of distinguished look to stand off side. Also be aware that Mick obviously preferred to stand next to Mark than throw himself into the Party bunch. Even when Mick was given the Mic he did not know what to do with it exactly. I like him very much btw. Mark always was a loner more or less when it comes to show some feeling and let things go loose. I guess he had a great night nevertheless.
