Check both their Facebook pages.
They are touring Germany playing David's work and early Dire Straits tunes including some songs never recorded!
Was announced Friday night no dates seen as yet .
-
wonder what those unrecorded songs may be...can only be from david''s time in the band, as alan would not have the right (i assume) to play any unrecorder mk songs...
-
That's very interesting!!!!! What do you think about that??? I didn't know they were friends!!!

The unreleased tracks are "what's the matter baby" and "Bernadette".
David and Alan Clark had worked together in two David's records. Also Phil Palmer and Chris White had played in David records.
-
I hope some good quality recordings of this duo will see the light!

Or two very good reasons to go!
I have all DK records and I like them, specially "The Giver", "Small Mercies", "Wishbones" and "Ship Of Dreams". I saw him live and it´s a nice and intimate show, and Alan Clark, he still has that touch that he used to have when Dire Straits, so both together are a good pair!
Alan work on "Wishbones" and "Ship Of Dreams" is very very good, they fit very well.

I can perfectly understand all the hate, but music is still music.
David always worked on his own music, let's forgive his promoters putting "FOUNDER OF DIRE STRAITS" on his posters, but overall a good chap. Hats off to Alan that he decided to do something better than to be in the terminal of tribute to. Let's be positive! 8)

Yes, music is still music, but it has to appeal to me. Having seen DK in action not long ago, it wasn't my cup of tea at all - very bland and repetitive.

These guys behave like scavengers. They are friends but even if they weren't, they'd still get together if it would help them make any profit out of the band's legacy.
It was David's choice to leave the band, he could've accepted Mark's terms instead. Now, 36 years - and a mortgage to pay - later, he does that.
As for Alan, I think he believed Mark would be up to a reunion something at some point and got tired of waiting. He never left the band so it sounds more acceptable to me so to speak.
In any case it all comes down to the fact that Mark left the door ajar as he never gathered the band for the dozens of charity events he's been most likely invited to join.
-
???
-
???
Do you really think Mark has never been approached and offered a DS charity gig? I'm positively sure it's happened not only once or twice but dozens of times, especially because he said he'd be open to do that himself after he announced the end of the band.
If there's a demand for a product that no longer exists some people will buy whatever they can to fill the gap. That's when David, Alan and others sneak in. It's kinda sad to me but the bills never stop coming so that's the way these guys deal with them I guess.
That would be much nicer if they gathered and started a new band with new songs though. Just my opinion.
-
David is touring as a solo artists with many solo records released under his name...

And using the DS brand to boost it, including having another former member he barely played with in his band and so called unreleased DS songs.

So you think we HAVE TO go? For me, it is an very easy decision. It is the same level of asking me if I would go to any "fill name of top 10 which I haven't clue about". I wouldn't. Has not much to do with hate. Just total lack of interest.

Lack of interest is totally respectable and a good reason :)
David doesn't use the brand, but the promoter, same as promoters that announce MK.
And the promoter is not lying about anything...
This is not a DS tribute band like DSL, it's David playing his songs and 3 or 4 of his years in DS with another musician that is a friend of him and played with him in two of his solo records.
-
Don't get me wrong, I actually like some of David's albums, but to me it sounds opportunistic to use the name of a band you repeatedly bitch about. You dart out at your band, spend years and years of your life badmouthing it and all of a sudden you invite another member from band incarnations you've never been in and announce you'll play unreleased songs from that band. I don't know.
I respect David for leaving the band in pursuit of a dream and all that - and he actually stuck to his guns for a long time there - but what he's doing now is different. It's just my opinion, nobody needs to agree.
-
He's doing the same has done for years

i went, kinda did not not like it. got a few of his albums. never played. he just does not have that touch mark has. simple as that imho...

I think you jumped a few steps there. I didn't make any mention of anyone going anywhere. I think lively debate on this topic is a good thing.
What is so interesting for me here is that we now have a situation where a bone fide founder member of the band wants to tour and play early tunes. To me that can only be a good thing and is a league above the various incarnations of the band (tribute or valid) that we have seen to date. Will I go? If in my hometown, probably, not another country though.

agree, with the founder bit.
still, would not go, anymore. been there, done that, and it was not exciting. i prefer following him on FB, he does come up with interesting things at times.

Dire Straits is like the huge cow with 200 tittis with milk for every one. It is joke. J O K E. David sing like duck sucking frog, say he dont like DS and MK, but like to milk DS. J O K E. Like with Alan Clark.

Fair enough. I've got to admit I'd probably think twice : haven't really shaken the image of DK in the Arena documentary and have never listened to any of his albums
