Good evening!
Today I found out So Far Away was played at least once during the On Every Street Tour, and I was wondering why they dropped it completely from the set? It sounds great with the Pensa (?), and the crowd seemed to enjoy it.

Yeah it's interesting indeed. It seems that they had rehearsed So Far Away quite a lot since it is linked directly to Romeo & Juliet with the same passage that was only later added after Heavy Fuel. At this point of the tour Heave Fuel wasn't connected to Romeo & Juliet although they seemed to have the passage ready.

the passage was already on the BIA tour at the end of one world, linked to Romeo & Juliet

I've never seen videos, but I would find strange that it was played on the pensa, I'd rather vote for the red schecter

I also thought he'd use the Schecter, but I'm almost certain it's the Pensa. It's the first night in Birmingham '91 and I think it was the only time it was ever played during that tour.

For sure, is the only bootleg published that contains this song in the whole 91-92 tour.

During those years, in my high school in Valencia, Spain, there was a guy from England in my class, and when he knew I was a DS fan he told me "I just come back from Sheffield with my parents from the Dire Straits concert, it was great, they played "So Far Away"!!!
I've never seen a recording of Sheffield concerts, but at least they played it in Birmingham as well, and there is recording from that!

Interesting stuff. Personally, I'm not too fond of the Birmingham version, although the sound quality doesn't do it any favours. No doubt that the best versions of SFA were from the BIA tour. Pity it was dropped for One World.

Wow I never knew this! Sounds more like the Schecter to me, neck + middle pickup and at least some chorus, like OES.
The bridge to R&J is better with Heavy Fuel or One World though, sounds a bit strange to me after SFA. I liked the early Heavy Fuel versions of the tour, I think the intro of the studio version is cooler than the one with only drums + MK.
Just search "Knopfler unlimited" in google.
Nice! ;D
