Post by: Terry01 on February 17, 2018, 02:54:58 AM
I already know that exist a topic about this cause,
But i want to know
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZbTVw5JeGc
That is a video mixing a soundboard and an audience recording part
All knows that sure the performance included on the MFN album is from Paris, but i already compared all Portobello Belle version of this Paris nights already circulated (19,21,22 and 23), and notice that all are different from the Portobello Belle audience recordings part of the YT video (the one at the start of the topic)
Anyone can explain me what happens?  :think
Thanks friends

It mix Portobello from audience recording of London 23 July 1983 (the night alchemy was recorded) with the Portobello from the mfn compilation, that comes from Paris 21 June 1983 in a 80%, as some of the MK vocal takes and some instrumental parts comes from different recordings.

Seems to me like he's playing something very similar to the studio Angel of Mercy solo there towards the end when the lyrics are finished.

if you're talking abouu the firts solo, just after the lyrics are finsihed, it's Hal who plays it, not Mark

the version from MFN comes fom 23th, not 21th, from the 20th as Brunno pointed out
and this mix starts with audience from Paris, not the Alchemy one. As for the outro, I am not sure

I would like you to look at Portobello Belle's version of the second night in Paris- 20.06.1983 (or, for those who have not yet updated one of the versions of 22.06.1983 and compare with this version of the MFN compilation, (this version of the video above) specifically in point 4:14 in both.

The 7 other differences I could see:

First sultil difference:

* On the bootleg econd night in Paris- 20.06.1983, Mark sings on this point: "SING a song about a long gone Irish girl"

* In the MFN 1988 compilation, Mark sings on this point: "DO a song about a long gone"

(Still in the first sultil difference, notice the keyboard layer that is present in that part, are executed in different ways.)

Second difference sultil:

The following verse, "Irish girl"

In this bootleg Mark sings "Irish, irish girl"

In the compilation Mark sings only: "Irish girl"

Third sultil difference:

In 4:47 of the bootleg version, Mark sings "Yeah, the blind man singing irish"

In the compilation at this point he sings: "blind man singing irish"

Fourth sultil difference:

From 5:06 to 5:18 Bootleg, there is a saxophone presence, something that does not occur in this part of the 1988 compilation version.

Fifth sultil difference:

At 5:44 the bootleg, the way he sings "She gets the crying of a wino", is in a bootleg way and differently in the 1988 MFN compilation

Sixth sultil difference:

At 6:05 on the bootleg, again, the way he sings "Bella donna walks
Bella donna taking a stroll "
is a bootleg and a different way in the 1988 MFN compilation.

Seventh sultil difference:

At bootleg 6:24, there is a slight microphone that was eliminated in the mix in the 1988 compilation.

Finally, it was a very ingenious work with Portobello Belle's version of the MFN collection, is a mix of, at least 3 different concerts, maintaining the high volume of the instruments, giving more clarity.

The PB version of the bootleg Second night in Paris- 20.06.1983 is the basis of the 1988 compilation version, I would say that over 90% is the second night in Paris, the rest are taken from other shows during the tour, probably of shows that so far are out of catalog like the nights in Holland that was not cataloged, 12.06.1983, 14.06.1983 and 17.06.1983

I downloaded it from MKlive, of la Knopflertk, and the person who uploaded that Portobello labelled it as from the night of 21st and the solos at the end are the exactly the same from the one in the MFN compilation note by note, and the rest of the song, except all the differences that Bruno Nunes told before.
