Sorry for the clickbait title, I couldn't resist :lol
Basically, a couple years ago I stumbled across a website of a guy claiming that he was the actual author of all the Dire Straits songs (probably the lyrics, I don't remember) and Mark stole everything without giving him credit.
He was clearly completely nuts :lol
However I'd like to read again that website to have some fun, but I'm not able to find it anymore. I'm wondering if any of you saw it too and can find the URL.
I'm usually good at search engines but this time I had no luck :(
I'm not sure I can trust my memory, but I think it had a dark-ish background and looked a lot like amateur websites of the early 2000s.

Oh, by the way, this was me, the character in the song Money For Nothing. I mean I'm the guy who was delivering these microwave ovens and stuff. I remeber it as if it were only 33 years ago. Even though I hadn't been born in 1985 yet — this happens sometimes and it was me, I promise.

That's actually him. I also found this topic here on AMIT (https://www.amarkintime.org/forum/index.php?topic=3487.0) about him.
Thanks for not sharing the link, as he also hosts advertisements on that blog.

On a serious note, whatever you do don't engage with Mr Marshal at all. I made the mistake of attempting to engage with him and as soon as I questioned his motives and silly story he became very nasty. He made threats against me and even went as far as contacting my employer and accusing me of abuse (I work with children) In the end I had to get the police involved and he basically tried to ruin me!
By all means read his rantings but I wouldn't go any further....

Thanks Eddie, makes you realise how much info we leave lying around on the internet. He got my work details form an old LinkedIn account and it all went from there. He's a very ill man in my opinion. He went to the trouble of trying to harass my daughter and wife as well, didn't work in the end though and he had a surprise visit from a man in uniform. Haven't heard a peep from him since, although he maintains his blog by writing some ridiculous drivel once every 6 months or so when his meds wear off!

I'm glad you got rid of him - and I hope you managed to clear up everything at work and within your family. I've come across some pretty crazy people in my life but what that man did to you is beyond comprehension.

My 2 cent on it:
- Mark worked as a newspaper reporter, he studied English, and worked as an English teacher. Some good reasons to believe he should be able to write something himself ;)
- Some songs, e.g. Water of Love, seem to be already been rehearsed with the Cafe Racers (the band Mark was in before DS).
- Many lines in the lyrics are related to Mark himself (e.g. 'I bought a pickup for my steel guitar' or the song about a sculptor called Harry (In the Gallery)... [Harry was his friend Steve Phillips's father])
- Not sure, didn't the guy also say that MfN goes back to him? --> 'we got to install microwave ovens...' - no microwaves in 1977!
- or Love over Gold ? (A line that was written on a wall near the place where Mark lived at that time)

I think this subject should be taken as a sad joke really. Mark himself ignoring it tells how much attention and credit it deserves.

I totally agree. The only thing that annoys me, and I've said it on here before, is that some of what Mr Marshal is spouting inevitably filters through onto the internet, and we all know how people love a conspiracy theory. I came across his site originally because of an entry on the official DS Wikipedia page which had been 'altered' by 'someone'. I've also found various music sites crediting Robert Marshal as the co-writer on the first album, and even photo shopped sleeve notes!
So its out there, and I really think it should be stopped. That's why I engaged with the nutcase in the first place. Sorry rant over, now lets talk about something more interesting like the winds in the humbuckers of M.K.s LP 59!

Yes and at a gig (can't remember if it's Carre Amsterdam 79 or another) he sung "I bought a pickup for my red guitar"
I always wondered if he was referring to the FS-1 even if I know (thanks to you) that he bought the FS-1 likely in 78

As a first time writer on amarkintime, I'd like to point out a few discrepancies before I get to the main reason for this journey. How does D.S. guitar george ask a question, then answer it as two many guitars, and as the claim of the moderators to exclude abusive authors that doesn't seem to affect the person answering their own question. Who has stated that Robert Marshal threatened his wife and daughter on this page and that's not abusive literature, then lets get to the real facts, the writer Chris Finucane Two Many Guitars D.S. Guitar George and Anonymous Coward has not only defamed Robert Marshal who had to get the Hampshire Police involved in his vile emails and threats, he actually started harassing a woman and her family as he thought they were related to him. He even went to the extreme lengths of putting a facebook page in her fathers name to contact her, and threatened to be waiting for her outside her work, he was banned from facebook, but that didn't stop him making more threats to a brownie pack leader who he again thought was a friend of Robert Marshal. And it goes on until we get rid of the trolls and stop them hiding behind the luxury of using nom de plumes to covern up their true intent of harming others. Oh and one more thing if the Dire Straits Story wasn't true Mr Marshal would have been taken to court pronto.

I would say most of the comments and answers are those of one person, and their thoughts are not for the benefit of those who read the articles but for their own sick minds obsessed in doing harm. Before you ask: All these hundreds of members of AMIT do not really exist. Only Pottel and jbaent are real persons they say (not sure about Pottel though). The other members are all created by the two of them to fill the Internet and kill some free time. You know, even MK does not really exist. He is just invented by the same aliens from outer space that replaced Paul and also Bob after his motorbike accident. We should have known because no one can really play a guitar like this MK guy. So, in a nutshell:
Go back into the cave or parallel Universe where you come from and leave us poor little bunch of mislead MK Trolls alone. No reply needed.

Do you understand the seriousness of his actions in the REAL WORLD? Undertaken by the person in question with ZERO provocation. I agree, don't communicate with the person in question, but don't erase the history of what he has said and done. People need to know that if they risk engagement with this nutcase he will try and ruin you in the real world where it might really matter.
