Title: New versions of DS live recordings from Paste Magazine
Post by: Harald on March 15, 2018, 01:33:19 AM
Hello there,

I found this very interesting article:

https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2018/03/hear-an-early-dire-straits-perform-sultans-of-swin.html via http://direstraitsblog.com.

The most keen thing here is the live recording of Sultans of Swing from Tower Theater 1979. Damn it sounds so vivid, fresh and clean as in the article it says. You can find it bottom of the article. They have got even more live recordings in superb quality from some of the Dire Straits concerts and some other nice DS material which I haven't heard before.

Link for the audio: https://www.pastemagazine.com/search?t=Dire+Straits&m=Audio.

This really made my day! :o Hopefully they will find more recordings from their archives and publish them. Wondering, if they have got the Superstar Concert Series - Wembley 1985 -recording.  :think

Best regards
Harald

It's taken from a widely spread and known radio broadcast that's available on many bootlegs, for example the "Live USA" one. But it's a great show with an outstanding Southbound Again and What's The Matter With You Baby.

Welcome, Harald!  :wave

Why this topic says "new live recording" when it's a recording existing since early 90's?

Yeah maybe the title was a little bit misleading but my idea was that are these Paste's versions of these existing recordings new in a kind?

That certainly is good sound.  Must be from the radio station master tapes or something.  Thanks Harald.  :thumbsup

BTW I've always noticed a distinct difference in sound between the 1978 and '79 versions of Sultans, even though the band was still the same.  Personally I prefer the '78 ones - nice and raw!
