Post by: jbaent on August 30, 2018, 10:39:17 AM
Mark Knopfler was asked to compose a theme for a documentary about Prince Charles and Lady Di in 1986.

The documentary was called "Charles and Di: In Private In Public"

Jesus Christ those synths are awful! I really wonder how Guy managed to keep the job after delivering such cheesy crap... (kettledrum Boom boom)

Typical Knopfler.  The music was pleasant - variations on a theme.  I haven't watched the whole video as I'm not a fan of royal documentaries, but I feel the music may become a bit repetitive after an hour or so.   I only noticed the synths towards the end of the music video.

@ LE The kettledrum boom has been used before in other films - Cal?   :think

Actually it was Alan Clark. MK and AC went to Air Studios to record two pieces of music that will be split on three for the documentary.

Probably the budget was quite low so, guitar and synths...

With Kettledrum boom boom I guess you mean the timpani sound, a percussion... it was made with synths, not only here but also in Cal, as Superval says, and in other scores like Princess bride and Last exit to Brooklyn.

It was synclavier and linn drum machine era...

The funny thing is that along the documentary you only listen the music four times, one at the beguining, another at the end, and two small pieces in two scenes, the rest of the documentary doesn't have any MK music, or any music at all  :-\
