WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD
So, I was yesterday at Paris' concert, and wow - I was literally blown away. Back to the year 1970 that I have never known !
So touching to see this 4th member, who has never been in the light, who was just the guy to play drums and be the "glue" between the other 3, finally get some time in the sun, in a very decent and fun manner... The group's leader can't be seen much, he is hidden at the back in his drum kit.. and that's so nice ! Only a 5-piece band, similar to DS' OL/MM tour, with the same energy, playing the early classics that Roger and David wouldn't play anymore ! Roger stated that he would not want to play Interstellar Overdrive for hours ? That he would never want to play Atom Heart Mother not Saucerful of Secrets anymore ? Well Nick is doing them, in shortened versions so that it doesn't take hours but so that you get the essence of it ! David wouldn't want to play the Nile Song when Guy suggested him in 2006, stating "you will have to play it in another band ?" - "Well, I am in another band now, so I can" Guy teases gently. Nick's teasing is amusing as well. He started by saying "we're not the David Gilmour Australian show, not the Roger Waters Floyd experience... Just Nick Mason's Saucerful of secrets !". Hilarious. Then, just before paying a mind blowing version of Set the controls for the heart of the sun (rawer and even better than Roger's versions if you ask me), he goes like: "One of my best friends is a man by the name of Roger Waters. One thing that Roger was not so good at is... sharing (laughs in the venue). For 52 years, I had to watch him play the gong alone. Well now finally... It's my turn" *Gong*.
Nick also was careful to pay due respect to the dead, Rick and Syd, and altough I am not that a fan of Barrett's area of Floyd, I felt so proud to hear Arnold Layne, See Emily Play, Bike and even Vegetable Man ! A fabulous setlist revisiting almost all every forgotten hits, save for Echoes sadly... But let's admit that playing Echoes without David nor Rick would have been kinda complicated.
Only (slight) complain, the vocals were a bit too soft to be heard well. Other than that, hats off to Nick, Guy, and the excellent 3 others - they made me enjoy the show even more than David or Roger, because it was so refreshing and chatty - like MK in the OL/MM tour, a long gone atmosphere...

Nick really reminds me of John Illsley - the loyal number 2, or 4, that has finally deserved to shine a bit, his own time in the sun. Wholeheartedly recommended ! Don't miss this wonderful little tour !

You refer to Pottel's repeated "useless" comment in the new release thread? I understood his comments to refer to the information from TK and the management, which is indeed useless. It wasn't a remark about your or the other poster's comment, which in such a case would have been disrespectful by Pottel, and possibly a violation of the forum rules.

I thought it a little disrespectful to Kaleo74 who took the effort of informing us. A little thank you I thought would have been nice. But that's just me.

Exactly my thoughts, also on the voices being to silent in the mix.
What you did not know, but I did as I already listened to the Putney try out show, and then heard again during the Antwerp show, was the exact repetition of jokes, just like mark does. Thought that was funny. Then again, they cannot expect too many people going to multiple shows. My favourites were let there be more light (that spinal tap bass!!) A saucerful of secrets, atom heart mother and anything from the OBC album, one of my top 3 favourite Floyd albums.

It's useless as long as there are no news to publish, that's what it takes a website about news...  :think :(

LE

Yes, but that's because MKNEWS is official and is provided with authorised news by the record company and the management. MKNEWS can't publish anything that is not authorised by them no matter MKNEWS knows for months and for sure...

That's what annoy me the most about the record company and the management, they rather send the information first to the press media so they can get to the more people the better and fulfill their commitments with the press media than to publish it in MKNEWS before for the fans.

There was in Al shows since Stockholm
Lady singer, Emma something . All sounding a bit similar, but, I found her to be a good guitar player. (Folkie)
She started at 8 believe went on for 30-35 min and nick came on around 9

Did not like her to be honest.
First I did not expect a supporting act, I rushed from office to be there on time, after her 40 minutes we were told that Olympia was "offering" us a 20-minute break, de facto transforming a 20.00h concert into a 21.00h one, did not like that.
Then she barely introduced herself, nobody caught her name...
But most importantly she was utterly boring - the same soft song over and over on the acoustic guitar. When you came to hear 1960's psychedelic raw music, there is such a contrast that you get angry with her for putting you to sleep !
Maybe I am harsh, yes I am aware that supporting acts are opportunities to discover young artists and give them a chance, and indeed some are very good, but this one... she even managed to make me miss Kate Walsh !!

Would also love to hear your opinion

thank you for the interest

my feelings are always mixed because the better the show the most depressed I feel a moment later thinking at how much I missed
since 1995 because of not being able to play and how much I will miss in the future, an endless nightmare 24/7 but those 2 hours.

in this case the show was absolutely great. very good acoustic for this theatre. a privilege to see Nick before it's too late.
i only saw him in 1994 with Pink Floyd in modena, but there were so many people 3/400k that I was more or less at 1km from
the stage and couldn't really see him even if I had had a binoculars. So after shows from gilmour and waters , I only missed
him and now the circle is complete.

and it's frankly amazing how well he still plays, I mean he is almost 75.

the best of the show is the setlist. all songs from the early albums, very wise move and extremely enjoyable,
it is as if MK would suddenly play a lot of early songs, a dream which in this case came true.

Apparently, Mark hates the video format. He was caught talking that he's not a fan of music videos, no wonder he hates live albums as well. We should be thankful we have what we have.

not a good performance there imho. (one of these days i mean)
still, happy to see it being released.

the guy on the pedal steel is surely not gilmour, not even close, but the band is very fine overall and the video/audio is excellent

so even Nick Mason after 1 tour will have a fantastic full concert bluray out in few days

is Mark Knopfler the only major artist in the world with no concert on bluray out ? I am frankly disgusted after 25 years of solo career

Alchemy is on bluray  ;D

Apparently, Mark hates the video format. He was caught talking that he's not a fan of music videos, no wonder he hates live albums as well. We should be thankful we have what we have.

We have his last four tours on soundboard, so yes, leaving behind the sound of some of them, yes, we should be thankful for that!
i agree with Jbaent on this one, cannot complain about a lack of live recordings. fan based or band based. (as in mark was always positive towards fans recording for fans)

I was talking about a bluray, not about audio stuff. it's ridiculous there's no video stuff after so many years and after so many tours

this concert is mixed 100 times better than Pompei 2016 by gilmour, which is almost unlistenable

The Nick Mason album is really brilliant recorded and mixed. And that is not wat i can say from the new Us & Them live-album of Roger Waters. It sound like a studio album where they mixed in some applause. It really doesn't has any live-vibe at all. I was at the Ziggodome shows were they recorded it at they the band sound really great and i don't hear it back in the official recording. It really doesn't "breathe". And i also don't understand why they cut out "Smell the Roses" from the main set and add it as "bonus" only on the dvd. Same with the complete encore which is left out on the album and dvd. Only "Comfortably Numb" is a bonus on the dvd. And they add of 2 songs as a kind of reprise in the end which they actually hasn't played as reprise.
This has in my opinion nothing to do with a good representaion of the Us & Them tour. I bought the album and dvd because I was at these shows but I prefer the bootlegs of the shows.
The best Waters live album is still In The Flesh? I wish that that was also the standard of quality for the Us & Them release but unfortanely it is not. Even some bootlegs of this tour sound way better

100% agree, yes Us+Them sounds like a studio album mainly, still enjoyable, I would rate it 7.5/10 vs Nick Mason 10/10 for the mix, and the video part on bluray is really great
