Me too! Same problem.

I don't have one either!

For the record, I'm just home from Glasgow and the set from what I remember was:

WII - great version with extended middle section.  Bonnie Banks played.
CMG - sound not too great where I stood (very front next to Richard).
Corned Beef City - again, sound made MK's guitar too low.
HFB - great, powerful version.
Privateers - as all reports say - very nice indeed.
STP
A night in summer long ago - no Bonaparte for us!  Best version I've heard I think.  MK's voice in top form!
Sonny Landreth - played with his new LP which he kissed at the end!
Marbletown
BIA - he joked about playing it in a different key or something.  Done with his new LP too!  Sounded great.  A really good version although he did play wrong at the end but I don't think many people noticed. :o
The band went off stage for about 5 seconds (!) then came back and played a fantastic Speedway to end a great energetic set.

MK was wearing torn jeans and a fleece and there was a little merchandise for sale but I didn't see programmes.

Thanks for that, dmg! We got a little impatient waiting for any news from Glasgow. Great to hear about some variation in the set.

Just got back at my hotel. What a nightmare to get out this venue and reach the city : no taxi, no bus, nothing.
My dear friend dmg gave the first news but i would amend the setlist :
WII
CMG
Corned beef city (starts like gravy train)
STP
HFB
Privateers
Sonny Liston
a night in summer long ago
Marbletown
BIA
SAN
Total 75 min

Very nice show but the sound was terrible sometimes , MK  is not seated anymore ;D,  Great HFB, fabulous Marbletown, and a lot of Les Paul.  The two new songs are interesting, I thing they still need improvement but nice potential.
MK was great, better than GL tour.

Stupid security guys and BD fans showing no respect during our part. You have to know that : they arrive late, they go in and out ten times and they are noisy. Management focus on recodings but the real disturbance is different.
No problem , we'll do it differently and we'll have some fun tomorrow.  ;)

Bob's part was disapointing except for Hihway 61 and a wonderful AATW.
Not easy to play after MK. Huge difference.

Pottel, you can't be serious : we are banned for one month  ??  :o ;)

Strange, never had this problem before, but I can't see the Reply button in the tour forum now. No wonder there are so few replies all of a sudden. Nice to see a few surprises in the setlist, though A Night in Summer is surely one of the most boring songs from GH. Bring me Darling Pretty any time of the day.

I had troubles, too and they started again when I was asked a question about the "reply" function which I can't remember exaclty but I answered "Yes"
and from there on the Reply button was gone. Now it is here again...

I am confident that our technical geniuses in the background will work it all out!  :)

Thanks for your efforts, Dan!

So I did a little research (I am slow, sorry, Sunday morning...), and I can reply (and quote) in all sections except the "2011 Mark Knopfler & Bob Dylan Tour" section. Strange....

If I can do anything myself to change this I would be happy to hear any suggestions?

I was so tired last night after a long day that I must also add that we have such a great bunch of folk here at the forum; everyone I met yesterday was so nice.  I'd like to say a big thanks to Tunnel85, Dusty and Jbaent for making a great day even better.  It was good to put faces to the names.  Dusty has a picture to upload, we stood next to each other all night even managing to skip some of the queue!

I wasn't a Dylan fan but he does have charisma and a stage presence that MK never has had, if that is your thing.  Not mine.  It does however work the audience and it seemed his set was slightly better received imo.  Or maybe people had had more alcohol by then.

Maybe the 70min set means MK doesn't have to pace himself but he was certainly energetic last night.

Oh, and his new guitar has a kind of bluesy sound.  Really cool.  I think he likes it.  Sorry the post has been all over the place but it's just things a tired boy forgot last night! ::)

Thanks! I hope you had a really great concert evening!
About charisma and stage presence: I always asked myself if I really would be able to  recognize if an artist shows up in front of me with these attributes - but then I saw Dire Straits in 1992 and learned that Mark was able to beam in every last row from every Arena and stadium there is... so I always thought that his charisma and stage presence would be an important part of the fascination he has for so many people, apart from his skills and talent.
But maybe we have different approaches to the term, it is not too important however.
I saw that DWB clip at the Dublin thread and must say Mark looked great and easy, he moved around with his guitar and you could see he was enjoying the gig immensly.

Would you be able to elaborate a little more about the two new songs? When I read that "Corned Beef City" starts like "Gravy Train", I thought that this
was exactly what I expected after reading about the content of that London area that's called Corned Beef City and why. Mark seems to have a catalogue of sounds in his head that he connects with certain pictures... I like that.

Thanks for your review, dmg!   It seems like a good time was had by all!   Regarding charisma - to me MK has always oozed the stuff, from the moment I first saw him 30 years ago!   :P
Title: Re: Unable to reply to topics

It would seem to me that the big change is really with Dylan; years ago he would stand behind his piano and hardly look at the audience. He's been reborn in that sense on stage.

As for the clip of Bonaparte, I like the way Mark changes the melody slightly here and there. Works just fine and keeps things fresh (I'd be happy without this song, but still).

Perhaps stage presence and moving around on stage;  MK is pretty static.  Doesn't matter to me, in fact I prefer that the showman element isn't there because it's just nothing to do with music and it's there simply to fill a gap.  Mark doesn't need it.

Dylan was on keys all night.  No guitar at all last night.

Moving around the stage, posturing, etc doesn't make charisma!  I think the fact that MK doesn't do these showman things is one of the reasons he is so charismatic to me.   I can't bear showmanship!   :)   I agree with you, MK doesn't need it!

I did not see the show, of course, but from what I understand he is now moving around quite a lot on stage when not playing his organ, smiling and posing to the audience. This would have been unheard of ten years ago.

He was actually doing a wee jig whilst playing his organ,  Movig up and down, tapping his feet and smiling all night!  Very good mood.

Richard has his new entry up, too. After all we could read about the "grumpy Fletch" at Guy's page this morning, it seems Richard did not have one of the best days, too! Funny to read! I am sure Glasgow has not made one of the best impressions on the boys...

Need to listen to the songs deeper.
The connection to Gravy Train is really obvious, absolutely same intro, Same rythm, slide guitar, same piano background.

Hello all!

It's 9 AM NY time. Seems while I was asleep some event caused one of the sub forums to go into read only mode. The issue should be fixed now, and I will be investigating the root cause today. You should have the ability to post in any forum now.

Yes, not a glitch actually, a suggestion was made by one of the Editors to disallow "guests" (non members) from reading that forum and that's what we went with.

This is a bad decision to disallow guests from reading this sub-forum. What possible reason could be given for this decision?
