Vinyl is analog, not digital. By proper digitalisation with both appropriate horizontal resolution (>40khz, since we can't hear above 20khz, and Shannon tells us to use a sampling frequency at least twice the max) and vertical resolution (16 bits with proper dither like properly produced CDs, or 24 bits), you will restitute perfectly all the audio information contained in the original vinyl. Of course if you use proper equipment along the way, and especially a good Analog/Digital Converter.
Vinyl can definitely sound very good, but digital can do just as good. The vinyl revival is emotional and artistic (nice 12'' art covers) but not rational.

It's not difficult to design gear that has those characteristics - rather than truth to the original signal - and it wouldn't be hard to mimic it in digital if that's what's wanted.

Anyway, the vinyl is a good medium to restitute audio, it can be made to sound very good, so, fine if people love it. I just don't, because it is not practical: big, required to operate the turntable, not easy to copy... But hey, I don't judge. I have nothing against vinyl, I am just aware that there is no rationale for it's so-called technical superiority.

I don't always agree with Herlock on matters audio, but I happen to be with him 100% here! Although I suspect there could be debate about whether even the best ADC is 100% perfect. But in practice, every turntable, arm, cartridge, phono preamp is different and will produce different sound, and that will swamp likely differences in ADC quality.Well the lossy vs. Lossless debate is pretty easy.

I am okay with the fact that there are deluxe editions with special features (bonus songs). Of course it would be nice to have them also digitally.

Everyone that has the box should be complaining. Taking into account the snippet we have from MKNews it appears to me that the three bonus tracks were supposed to be available from the download code and it is an oversight. They could easily make them available.

Vinly has very good sound qualities, can restitute sounds up to 50khz which is more than enough.
Cassette recorders are less good (up to 18khz) but far from ridiculous. The DS bootleg from Paris 1981.06.17 recorded on a Sony TCD-5m has little to envy to modern digital.
Traditional photography works great.
Digital is superior, no that much in quality, but in practicality of recording / playback and above all distribution. A digital copy is identical to the master one, even from the 1000th generation. Anlog copies degrade with generation.
But analog is by no means primitive - our ears and eyes are analog ! Are we primitive ? Well, maybe :)

To be honest, at the first reading I thought this was a parody... it's a ridiculous post and rude is very friendly to describe it. Signings are no human right, MK owes you nothing. "Is that my problem" is the icing of the cake. I am sure it was also not the problem of the people who made the bonus tracks available that you did not have them. Think about it.

Yeah, no worries! However, I suggest you to think that maybe the other memories are stronger than just a name in a paper? For example memories from the concert. Mark has passed me alone and there was a gap of approximately 20 centimeters between us. I have also sitted at a table about 1.5-2 meters from him. But I was more than happy to let him be. He has given me so much, the soundtrack of my life. But I still understand that you would like to have a signing :)

That wav files from JVT cannot be improved by just normalizing or increasing the volume because of the buzz, so leaving it as JVT did is the best you can do to avoid the buzz also being higher.
The only way to improve that version is do a new one without the buzz. That would be a real better one. Until now, leaving the files as they are is the best way to minimize the buzz.

It really is a shame how the box is put together !
I always compare to the boxes by David Gilmour, a reasonable price and far more complete, that's the way to do it !
The first time I didn't buy the box - I don't have a record player...
The first time I won't go to any concert...The ticket prices are rediculous and the Fair Admission a big joke... :(
But there are enough good songs to enjoy - DTRW is in my top 3 of MK solo albums, defenitely !!
And with the last three in digital it is now complete, thanks again !

BUT, this time in MP3 format, previous download format from this box was WAV. Anyway, finally an official source available. It seems MK.com listened to our complains.
So great! In the end of our complaining worked!
Of course it would had been better in wav or flac but at least a MP3 is a digital version of it. Is it 320 kps?

I used the code from the superdeluxe box (thus including the bonus LP) and got 16 tracks. I’ve emailed redeem.thesoundofvinyl to check what might have gone wrong, maybe that codes that have been used before can only be used a limited time.

It seems logical (well, sort of), because there are apparently two different download files available:
- Mark-Knopfler_Down-The-Road-Wherever_Super-Deluxe-Boxset.zip
- Mark-Knopfler_Down-The-Road-Wherever_Double-LP.zip
Some of download codes attached to the Super Deluxe Boxset (including mine) allow only downloading of the the Mark-Knopfler_Down-The-Road-Wherever_Double-LP.zip file.

I got a code with my standard 2LP edition. Just logged into the soundofvinyl page and it has now converted to a Super Deluxe Boxset download with all tracks!
It’s sounding like a lottery, some people get them and some people don’t

Which you also has as mp3, track 9.
Today I received the box and I redeem my code, and that code had 16 tracks only and was titled as "Mark-Knopfler_Down-The-Road-Wherever_Double-LP", I made a claim to his mail and got a new code to a file with 19 tracks called "Mark-Knopfler_Down-The-Road-Wherever_Super-Deluxe-Boxset"
So if your code only have 16 tracks, write them and make a claim to them, they will send you the download with 19 tracks.
I wrote them again telling that it was wrong again, as track 9 and17 were the same and that there was a song missing called "Back In The Day" which is listed as bonus track in the official site, and send them the link so they can check it.
Let's see if it works ;)

I have now had a reply from them, and a new code.... Which gives me the zip file of 16 songs again, not 19!

Just got a message back, they provided me with a new download code which works. All mp3’s except for track 17 (Drover’s Road) which is wav.
Which you also has as mp3, track 9.
Today I received the box and I redeem my code, and that code had 16 tracks only and was titled as "Mark-Knopfler_Down-The-Road-Wherever_Double-LP", I made a claim to his mail and got a new code to a file with 19 tracks called "Mark-Knopfler_Down-The-Road-Wherever_Super-Deluxe-Boxset"
So if your code only have 16 tracks, write them and make a claim to them, they will send you the download with 19 tracks.
I wrote them again telling that it was wrong again, as track 9 and17 were the same and that there was a song missing called "Back In The Day" which is listed as bonus track in the official site, and send them the link so they can check it.
Let's see if it works ;)

The flac recorder from the vinyl or the "official mp3" ?
In my opinion the mp3 has a better sound but I'm afraid that the different level of the recordings can mask the quality. In any case, I've just listened to the songs in my computer. I'll try again later with my HIFI equipment.

The vinyl copies are just fine, in fact in someway I prefer the sound from them purely as they are much 'warmer'....

I have checked my code again and now all 19 songs are also available as WAV :) and as MP3!
They hate me I think :P. I can download only 16 songs in WAV. so again no bonus tracks ::).

There is an email in the same web where you redeemed the code. Write them and they will give you a code to download all songs.

I've seen many people pre-ordering and getting their copy weeks after the release, this is a big joke!!
When you pre-order you expect to have it on release day at the latest... Same with games, movies etc...
So much have went really wrong with this, FA (I am totally satisfied with this though ::) ) etc.... MK does not deserve to have this service affecting his brand.

That is correct.
I would suggest that you buy the vinyl edition and if the included download code does not work, I can send you the bonus songs in MP3 or WAV (Better quality).
Please do not get me wrong, I like helping out, but I do not think it makes sense for people like me, to invest a lot of money in the vinyl edition, and then make the songs available to others.

Can't agree more. I don't want pictures, poker chips or whatever. I also have no need for sheet music as I don't read music and vinyl as I don't have a record player. I don't want to have to find room to store the damn thing either! In these times all this is bad for our environment too. I would gladly pay a little extra for the bonus songs but I don't need all this extra needless paraphernalia. It's all marketing crap really.

How's that any different that automobile sales, you can get the baseline or the one with all the trimmings -- maybe a little better handling or power, or some useless bells and whistles like faux chrome trim?

Interesting comparison, however you can customise your new car to an extent by buying the standard model and adding extras from the optional extras list. If we could perhaps have bought the bonus tracks from iTunes or the official site then even that would've been okay, but we didn't even have the option of an optional extra! Unless you bought the box you still have to wind your windows down! :)

Send an email and ask for the others songs. That worked to all of us
When you enter to their site to redeem your code there is a mail there in case you need help.
