Surprised to see the number one strat to be estimated so low

Surprised to see the number one strat to be estimated so low
a Candy Apple Red 1984 Stratocaster 57V (estimate: $15,000-25,000), which became Gilmour’s primary electric guitar during the 1980s and ’90s, and was used during recording and touring of the Pink Floyd albums A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) and The Division Bell (1994).
this seems quite low too, but they are just estimates, often they keep them low so that it goes out of control higher during the auction,
a psychological trick

unbelievable auction
-
The black one and #0001 will sell for 300K-500K each, at least, if you ask me
-
A global tour of the collection will launch in London at Christie's, King Street, from March 27-31, 2019, where the full collection will be on display, followed by highlights in Los Angeles May 7-11, and then the New York sale preview ahead of the auction from June 14-19.
Really lucky to be there

well he said so but the auction makes you wonder anyway, it's a pretty big move, maybe there's even something else up
-
He has also stated, this will leave him with about 20 guitars left, including the Fender replica of The Black Strat, so he will be ok.
-
You can't own everything forever, so it's a very wise gesture. And also for charity, and also unique instruments and not alternatives. Bravo! :clap

"Guitars were made to be played and it is my wish that wherever they end up, they continue to give their owners the gift of music."
Vaults of wealthy collectors? :think
-
I just realized that by attending the last 3 shows of the last tour (at the RAH) I am among the last ones who heard these guitars live
I am one of the last disciples

The greatest thing any guitarist can do. If I had a collection like that and given I really don't want them, I would do exactly this. David rocks!

Poor guitar will probably be never played again and will be stored under glass since it costs like a Ferrari LaFerrari now. RIP Black Strat.

David has been a genius once again, $21 million for his cause (ClientEarth) for guitars that if he wants can buy again at 1/100th the price

But they won't be the same guitars, the guitars he used to wrote and play his legendary guitar solos...
-
now the most expensive guitar ever.

"Due to the constant modifications, the only original parts on the guitar, apart from the body, are believed to be the pick up selector switch and (possibly) the bridge plate." tho

That was really interesting. Most of those I have never seen before.

So I couldn't afford 'the black strat' at the auction at Christies, so I've build it my myself with a kit body and some adjustments ;D. Here's the video of the build and me playing the intro of "Sorrow" at the end. Used the '69 neck instead of the '83 Gilmour has used the last couple of years. And along the way I've experienced some minor problems with that.
This was a fun project to do. feel free to contact me with any questions you have. It was way more cheaper than the 3.300.000 $

that is Sorrow of Sorrow ;D

I think you should have sealed the wood and primed it before painting it. To my eye, the wood grain was clearly visible through the paint. Also how long did you let the clear layer cure? Nitro takes a long time, I understand.
In the end you got a nice black Gilmour inspired Strat, but it's not a replica for sure :)
NB: Do you keep the pickups as high as shown in the video, and completely straight? Most often Strat pickups should be much lower, and the bass side a lot lower than the treble side. This will give lower output, but the sound is more balanced and you get better sustain because the magnets are further away and therefore strings ring longer. Experiment :)
-
No I've chanced the pickups height right away after I've took the promotional photo's. I know it's not a replica for sure and I'm clearly not a great guitarist.
This was my first strat build (out of a kit) with nitro, did a Les Paul earlier (with regular acrylic paint :smack). I allow myself to make mistakes (and I've made a bunch). It's all about the learning process, to understand how an electric guitar works really. And this is a very cheap way to do it. It plays nice though (to my abilities).
