I read the news today, oh boy...
Can't stop crying.

I'm in shock, it's absolutely horrible... centuries of incredible history, a wonderful work of architecture, a huge part of a city's identification burning, disappearing in minutes :( :'(

Let‘s hope that there are no people harmed!

A tragedy not only for France but for world heritage. We shall never forget the night Notre Dame burned.

Looks like the flames have been put out finally- the spire and roof ('the forest') are gone, but a lot of paintings/relics/etc. were rescued and the facade and the towers remain at least... very sad day in history. The roof held wood from trees from as early as 1160 :'( :'( :'(

Hi Guys, I have just discovered this subject and as a Frenchman, it is touching to see these messages. I don't know if you know it, but the structure could be saved, and although weakened, the stained glass windows and organ are intact, the paintings inside were damaged by the smoke but did not burn and the treasure could be saved. More than a billion euros in donations have been made, an architectural competition has been launched to rebuild the spire and our president has said he wants to rebuild it within 5 years (but you know there is political time and realistic time). It will take at least 4 months to secure the sites because the structure has been very weakened in some areas by the fire.
